Well, this event really brings a LOT of capes and crowns and carriages. I linked to a post on Royal Central about it on Friday, and you should read it if you didn’t then, because it’s interesting. (For actual proper news coverage, the BBC has loads.) Apparently, the ceremony involves the taking of a [ceremonial] hostage, and frankly I feel that MORE official events ought to involve the taking of ceremonial hostages. Like, imagine how fun it would be if the Oscars made the host choose and take a hostage at the beginning of the show to insure that it ran on time. THAT is a good idea. Call me, AMPAS! Let’s look at all the kerfuffle.
