Oscars Well Played: Tina Fey

well-played

I didn’t even notice that I downloaded a picture where she was making this face:

I don’t know WHY she’s making that face, but in my head, it’s because she’s doing a quick bit wherein she’s playing the role of an uptight, old school, super rich and mega snooty Upper East Sider — she IS in costume for the UES in custom Carolina Herrera — and is sneerily asking someone to bring her a G&T immediately. SHE HAD TO RIDE THE SUBWAY TODAY. SHE’LL NEVER BE CLEAN AGAIN. This is the smile she gives the maid when that maid brings her that drink. “Thank yew,” she says.

She also looks great. Peplum and all. Let’s look at the back!

Still cute! If only she were goosing Tim Gunn.

I thought she was auditioning for The Lesser Countess Not Dowager Of Grantham.

    PEPLUM! *shakes fist*

I do love the color though. And the cut isn’t SO bad for a peplum.

Why is someone wearing tuxedo pants and sneakers to the Oscars (behind Ms. Fey in the first shot)?

I’ve been waiting patiently for this entry, ’cause I was dying to see a close-up of the earrings she had on. WANT!

Nooooooooo. Horrible dress! Look at her in the first pic… she looks like she was standing with her back to the photographers and only bothered to turn her torso 180 degrees to smile.

In my most ardent of dreams, illusion netting and peplum are thrust in a cage match to fight to the death, and they both lose. FUG.

Liz Lemon’s butt looks cute under that damn peplum, though. (Why am I making so many ass-related comments today??)

I love it when T.Fey gets it right.

I adore her. I want to be her. I am thisclose to going all Single White Female on her ass. Kidding. Maybe.

I like this better than I did when I saw it on Sunday, but I do still hate it. It looks terrible from the side, makes her look older than she is, the hair is awful…

I like this a lot, but boy does she look like Megan Mullally in this one. That’s not a bad thing! It’s just that Ms. Fey doesn’t look like herself. I’m seeing some shades of Karen Walker in the first picture, is all.

I love them too!!! I’m not very curvy so they give great shape – also this is going to be very big this year so get used to it!!!

I am another completely unashamed peplum lover = ) Gooooo peplum! It can sometimes be misused, but it can also work really well to add some visual interest. I have a great emerald green cocktail dress with a peplum, and it allows me to indulge in extra food and drink without fear!

I love it when Tina Fey dresses up! She often takes risks, and they often pay off.

Just say no to huge peplums!

Death to peplum! DEATH! (shaking my spear at the orcs attacking Minas Tirith)

And while we’re at it, adios to trailer hitch hairdos . But Tina has done so much worse, this is acceptable to me as is.

Also an instant favorite of mine from that night. The SNL ladies were killing it.

I have a thing about brunettes in blue…just doesn’t work for me as a rule. BUT, it’s a pretty enough dress…the peplum doesn’t annoy me…her hair looks fab. I call it a Well-Played, reservedly.

Especially marine blue – it washes out the warm shades of the brunettes.

It would be even better without the peplum (to which I am not completely opposed; this is just a particularly large and awkward example), but she looks great. Loooooooove that shade of blue. Also love Ms. Tina

I think she looks fine, not great. She’s looked better. And I am firmly anti-peplum.

If this had been anyone else I feel as though many comments would have been made about such a wrinkled, ill-fitting, and down-right ugly dress! I adore Tina Fey as much as the next person, but this is just awful, along with the hair! The earrings are awesome though…

The bottom half of this looks the shy cousin to a mullet skirt. It’s like it wanted to be a mullet skirt, but its mom wouldn’t let it out of the house that way, so it had to settle for a big peplum instead.

She is so cute. I want to be her when I grow up.

I don’t get the black belt and black clutch with this blue. It’s deadeningly dull. Silver would have lifted it more.

I always knew I disliked peplums (and oh dear lord I am so old this isn’t even the SECOND time around with this devil-spawn fashion) but it wasn’t until I saw pix of Michelle Williams and Tina Fey this week that I realized I hated them with the white-hot rage of a thousand firey suns.

I love HER. But the dress is feh.

The colour looks great on her, as does everything but the dress, but the fabric looks awful, it’s like some cheap prom dress fabric… And the volume at the bottom throws it off, isn’t peplum meant to be fitted & sleek?

I just love how giddy Tim Gunn gets on the red carpet. “You look AMAZING (insert star’s name here)! WHAT is your SECRET??”

I love her so much. And yet, I hate this dress (and feel like the fuggirls’ vision was clouded with love for Tina). I think this dress makes her look older and wider than she is- she is so pretty and not at all old. I hate the peplum, I hate the heavy fabric and snooze color (which looked charcoal on my tv but now appears to be a dark blue or violet.) I wish she would wear something softer and lighter and maybe emerald green.

Can we please all have a moment of silence for the dress this dress would have been without the peplum?

I take peplums on a case by case basis, and I think in this case it worked…I think in Michelle Williams it just looked like a little girl skirt over a dress. This dress looks more architectural and flatters her figure. It is however, reeeeeally similar to every bridesmaid dress I wore in the late 80s. Two things saving it: A) no poofy shoulder detail, and B) Not pastel peach or pink.

Well, I like it, peplum ( hard to wear well I agree ) or not. Don’t like black accessories with this colour though, here I agree with Lilibet above.
For me, though the worst part is the picture that shows her with back of the male presenter’s head. Could no one have told the poor guy he had done insufficient back combover.
“Insufficient back combover” – I don’t think that phrase has ever been used before…………..

Sorry, Tina. It’s not you, it’s the peplum.
