Oscars Well Played, Minnie Driver

Yeah, we’ve seen a variation on this about a million times, but I basically liked all of them, and I like this one too:

I wish I owned this. I would wear it all around the house, to wash the dishes, and vacuum, and argue with my cable provider, and chat with my UPS dude, and purge my closet of other LESS SHINY dresses. We’d be so happy together. Happy, and sincerely eccentric.

I like it, but I think it would be so much better (and more flattering) if it was a simple v-neck and not a plunging-below-the-tatas v-neck. It just isn’t very flattering to her girls.

  2. Miss Louise

I also find this too low-cut. Maybe in Hollywood everyone gets used to having half their fronts exposed, so this is no big deal to them, but I think there’s just too much flesh on show here. I do like the sleeves and the drape of the skirt, though, and her face looks great.

All I can think is “brr.” Maybe because I live in Alaska and this would cause me to be cold at pretty much any time of year, but that’s just too much chestal real estate on view.

As you said, her face looks great and what I can see of the earrings is enviable.

I already plan to be an eccentric old lady who wears sequins all day, why not start now?

Let’s make sure we end up at the same rest home – I’ll be the one with beads and tassels on everything.

Too much boobage. It is neither sexy nor especially attractive.

Yes. Horrendous sternum windowage. Just awful.

It would’ve been great if it showed just a little cleavage. Of the top-of-boob variety only.

  5. Rayna

Glad to see I’m not alone on the too much northern exposure opinion.

I adore Minnie and love the sparkly. From the waist down, it’s awesomesauce.

And I would totally wear it around the house.

  6. Cathy

Too much of the bony chest.

There’s d├ęcolletage and then there’s just plain ugly. I do not appreciate and seriously do not get the desire to have one’s dress open to the waist. I have never seen it done in a way that flatters, ever.

I agree that it’s well-played. It fits her beautifully and is sooooooo glamorous. And yet…..the V-neck needs some tweaking. I actually think it could be even more sexy if her girls weren’t so squished in order to stay inside. A little more support and a slightly more shallow V and we’d be in business fo sho.

I love the dress and I guess I’ve gotten use to the copious amounts of open house real estate that woman now show in the front. But I find that it accentuates Minnie’s collarbone and the fact that she seems to be an unhealthy weight for her body type. I worry when I see that.

LOVE the dress! She looks so chic & happy… This dress can do that to you! I don’t get why the clutch is gold, but it still works! FAB!!!

  11. Kris

I’m fairly sure Mike Wazowski will be wearing this when he gets hung from the ceiling in “Monsters University”. And yet, I can’t resist the sparkly either.

  12. Barbara

It’s so shiny and low cut, yes and yes! Her lovely smile makes it even better.

  13. Dazie

Looks like she has it on backwards. While I do lubs me some sparkly dress, I can’t get behind acres of sternum.

  14. Vandalfan

Make her ladypillows look widespread, unsupported, small, and sad.

I think this dress is awesomesauce (to steal a particularly choice bon mot from Rayna, above)! Minnie’s jawline is always a hair too strong for me, to the point that I find myself distracted, but here, the prominent jaw is balanced out by the northern exposure and it works (in my humble opinion)!
