I didn’t even recognize Lana Parilla and I watch OUAT every week! Her hair is freaking me out….it’s always so calm and smooth on the show. Plus that dress is doing her figure no favors at all.
Also, I am abhorring these see-through dresses!!!!! It’s a trend that must stop!!!!! (thanks for letting me vent)
I know right? Lana looks amazing in her Evil Queen getups, and so smooth and polished in her suits in Storybrooke that this is weird!
Lots of other bad outfits as well here – what are these women thinking when they look in the mirror?
I know she’s not really famous, but I sort of hoped Jamie Foxx’s daughter might get a shout-out with the leftovers, because hot damn was this my favorite dress of the night. She looked amazing, the dress was a fantastic color and fit her perfectly. It was crazy gorgeous.
Jaime King doesn’t look like Jaime King anymore, plus wtf is going on with her leg. Plus she looks pregnant. (I don’t like the outfit- can you tell?)
I do like the yellow dress though, very ladylike. Would that more people had gotten THAT memo.
The only thing i can think of when I see Alicia Wikander in that dress and that hair is Blair Waldorf in her blue Elie Saab wedding dress: http://news.instyle.com/2012/12/18/gossip-girl-blair-waldorf-wedding-dress-elie-saab/
Oh thank god. Blair Waldorf’s wedding dress was my first thought when I saw Alicia Wikander too! Although I think Blair’s was lined? And she gets extra points for Chuck Bass as groom.
And Alicia has the queen (king?) of all polterwangs there in the jockstrap, which I hope wasn’t in Waldorf’s wedding dress.
Sometimes I feel like Julie Bowen and Elizabeth Banks. Also, that Emily Mortimer could be Bonnie Wright’s older sister.
Of the people on this list, I thought Isla Fisher was the best-dressed.
Sorry forgot to finish my sentence- JB & EB look like sisters.
I liked that you were just tossing it out there that you occasionally identify with two celebrity blondes.
That performance dress on Norah Jones is a tragedy, and the shadow of the microphone stand looks like she spilled something down her front.
Norah’s hair aged her and was just so bad. Completely distracting.
Norah Jones looks great in the first dress pictured. The 2nd dress is a crime . I also love Emma Robert’s dress. I think she looks stunning, but is it sheer/see through or I am I hallucinating/ But unlike you, I usually like a lot of what she wears (when at events).
tabloid rumour has it that Norah is pregnant which might explain the odd tummy thing in her dress, but she looks awesome either way. I quite liked her performance dress, but not the colour.
Rachel Griffiths looks just stunning, like a Golden Age Hollywood actress at a staged tarmac-arrival photoshoot. The gunmetal shoes are a subtle master stroke.
I LOVE this outfit. You described it perfectly. It’s high drama and glamorous. Those shoes are amazing.
While I love the dress of Isla the front seam at the hip/thigh portion looks like it’s coming apart. A size up isn’t going to hurt you dear.
Why oh why couldn’t an actual nominee wear something in the color of Gloria Reuban’s dress? It’s such a beautiful color, and it would look so much better than the boring blush-rose-nudes that everyone wore this year.
Colors, people. Embrace them.
ITA!!! I can also never get over the fact that Gloria was one of Tina Turner’s back up singers for her 2000 tour. How cool is that to have on your resume?
That giant white codpiece is truly terrifying! It’s like a re-enactment of the Crying Game.
Did you miss Emmanuelle Riva? I saw a few pictures of her on the red carpet and she looked like she was having fun (and dressed appropriately). Was hoping you’d cover her.
It’s funny that out of all of the perfectly pretty and truly abhorrent things in this slide show the thing that sticks out to me is the incredibly sloppy hem on Emily Mortimer’s otherwise incredibly classy look. Was it that terrible mid-calf length and her husband convinced her to hem it up with with scotch tape, chewing gum, and hair pins in the car on the way over?
I thought the same thing! Clearly that thing was shortened on the fly.
I’m a little disappointed that Samantha Barks didn’t make it into your coverage. I thought her various outfits over the night were really good, especially considering that she’s a relative unknown and therefore theoretically doesn’t have the best pickings… but oh well.
Sometimes, people just fall through the cracks. There were a LOT of people to cover.
What was Kat Graham thinking? That bodysuit should have stayed where it belonged – the 80′s!!! So wonky. And her hair is bad. Just makes me want to watch VD to cleanse my pupils…
Of those here with whom I’m familiar, the only one I’d have recognized is Griffiths – who is looking far and away the prettiest I’ve ever seen her. I am not wild about the outfit, but she is CARRYING it. Positively regal!
Does Kat Graham pick whacked out choices because she truly likes them, or because she’s trying to jump on the weird-can-help-you-be-more-famous bandwagon of Gaga and Minaj? When I see her in this stuff, it never feels totally genuine to me, but maybe that’s because I can only see her as Bonnie Bennet.
I actually really like the red satin wrap dress, despite SATIN and matching shoes and the general pratfalls a wrap dress with a high slit can get into.
I think the waist detail is really lovely and flattering, the burgundy accent is gorgeous, and her styling and attitude seem perfectly in place. Kudos, madam, for the mysterious fab when all signs point to fug.
Gloria for the win. Fit and color are gorgeous! She looks fun and appropriate. Love everything about it.
Mel B’s mean stepmother tried to make her stay home and clean out the chimney, but at the last minute her fairy godmother swooped in and make a dress out of a chenille bathmat so she could go to the ball.
Her makeup is so bad though. It may the flash and/or lighting, but she just looks sickly in the face.
She is not spicing up my life with that look.
Oh man, I really hope that Radha Mitchell’s dress is totally reversible like the Barbie 2 in 1 dresses of yore…those were the best!
And on an unrelated note, I love Jaime King here…she looks mahvalous!!
The purple dress would be fun to kick your legs around in…. wooo00oo
Analeigh and Emma are stunning in their simplicity
Julie Bowen needs a black lace fan (bolero) – just sayin
Alicia Vikander DOES have on a codpiece! and it has polterwang.
Lana’s dress is really interesting. I think she should have skipped the half lining and gone with a codpiece and all legs (no polterwang) for a modern valley of the dolls look (hair works too!). Maybe some really flashy 70′s metallic sandals.
Jamie Kings leg is on backwards.
Rachel why not go allll the way and wear a fascinator too? (Have Morgan bring the car around!)
Norah’s dress is fierce but I wish she would have had edgier hair and makeup. Stick straight and shiny plus bold lips.
Julie Bowen is a beautiful woman who somehow manages to miss the mark every time on the red carpet. This time she came SO CLOSE – the dress would have been great without that peplummy foofiness around the middle. Otherwise, lovely.
Gloria Reuben’s dress is gorgeous!!!
Emma Roberts’ dress makes me snoozy.
Julie Bowen’s would be fab with a little peplumectomy. (I’m not anti-peplum in general, but I am in this case.) So close.
I am pretty sure we’re seeing Mel B’s areola.
I don’t know who Alicia Vikander is, but her dress would be stunning if lined. Codpiece no.
DIdn’t even recognize Lana Parilla. She is a beautiful woman, but this is not her dress.
Radha Mitchell looks sassy. The dress itself is a little bland, but the colors are great.
Jaime King is a dead ringer for LeAnn Rimes.
Norah Jones looks soooo pretty in her RC gown!
A few days late to the comments, but holy bejeez do I agree with the Well Played assessment for Emma Roberts. She is stunning.
