Oscars Fug Carpet: Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn Bigelow — winner of last year’s Best Director for The Hurt Locker is not only an incredibly talented woman, but she’s also, you know, kind of a babe. She looks way better at nearly 60 than I do at 35. And she looked AMAZING last year when she won.

And ergo, I think, in the years to come, she and we will all agree that we’re all REALLY GRATEFUL that she didn’t wear this particular get-up LAST year and instead saved it for the ceremony where no one would be talking about how awesome she is and what she’s wearing, and instead snuck it in during the show where everyone else was totally distracted talking about how it might have been the worst Oscars ever. Always thinking, that Kathryn Bigelow. That’s why she’s my hero.

Holy cats, she’s nearly 60?!? I had no idea. This dress is awful, but she is gorgeous.

Honestly, the dress sort of screams STAR TREK at me. I can see a female officer wearing this to some sort of black tie event….all it needs is the little communicator stuck to the front. Of course, this is also red, and since the red shirts are known for indicating expendable characters, well…let’s just hope Kathryn doesn’t find herself on any strange planets with Captain Kirk, because her movie making days would likely be over.

The accessory on her left is pretty adorable.

So if she’s 60, is that her son? Or her Ashton Kutcher?

The dress doesn’t look nearly as bad in this photo as it did on screen. I literally shrieked in horror when she walked on stage last night.

That to her left is The Hurt Locker’s writer, and I believe they’re a couple.

Oh, how I coveted this dress when it was in the window of the Units store at the mall in 1988.

When I saw just the top half on TV it screamed FLASHDANCE to me. At full length it’s still an 80′s confection and in this case that’s not a good thing.

Note to self: get the name of K. Bigelow’s plastic surgeon stat. But NOT her stylist.

Truly a shame on such a lovely and talented woman. Your dress should ENHANCE your beauty, not sabotage it.

She is so cool and smart and she never wears a dress that shows off how stunning she is. Last years dress was old maidy and this one is ill-fitting.

I thought last year’s was outdated and unfortunate (since she won) and that this year’s was kind of cool, at least an improvement. Maybe it looked better moving. Notably, last year my main squeeze shamed me for snarking about the outfit of someone who is not an actress and not arm candy but a director whose outfit is only being commented on because she’s a woman. Touché.

Blech. My first thought was “Didn’t I see that dress at Chicos?”

She quite rather looks like a cult member waiting to be beamed up by the cult’s extraterrestrial spiritual leader.

It’s a comfortable, “I can’t be bothered this time” outfit.

Here’s a slice of shoulder, and a slice of leg. Good night!

    She’s SIXTY????!!!!

    DAMN!

I now have hope I didn’t have before! She is now my total inspiration.

And the Oscar thingy, that’s good too.

    I think it’s on backwards.

This is the only dress my husband commented on all night. He loved it. I don’t think it’s that bad, but the belt doesn’t work with it. She is awesome though, and her arm candy isn’t bad either.

My comment at the time was “Kathryn Bigelow, wearing the boldly redesigned 2011 Washington Redskins uniform.”

    This gown is really ugly.
