Mostly Fabs: The Men of Star Trek

I am kind of into the three-piece suit thing that’s happening right now. Thanks, Ryan Gosling!

I’ve never cared about Chris Pine one way or the other but he is WORKING that suit. Dayum.

He’s a really good dresser, very consistently. And he’s got a GREAT tailor.

Whoever has been styling that boy for this press tour has been knocking it out of the park.

But whither Karl Urban? He’s my favorite.

One of my friends may exclusively refer to Chris Pine as Chris Fine, and I am SO there.

Chris Pine is so handsome that I refuse to believe he is real. He is handsombot from the future sent back in time for some reason.

Guys! There are people out there called tailors. They can hem your pants for you. Give it a try.

Obviously he’s not part of this group, but In the south (where I am), ZQ’s haircut is the same one that white nationalist groups wear, so much so that if you see this haircut at the mall, you’ll judge your friend and go, “Look at Adolf over there.”

All kidding aside, someone should REALLY, REALLY tell him.

    • goldfish

NUDGE. Not judge. I’d never judge my friends.

Obviously he can sport whatever hairstyle he wants (or the role requires). But as a Texas girl myself, I instinctively cringed when I saw him, for exactly the same reason.

I guess I could make due with Chris Pine, too. I’d be willing to fall on that sword (if you know what I mean *wink, wink*) to save the rest of humanity. Karl Urban is a handsome fellow, too, regardless of his familiarity with a tailor.

    • Julie
      +2

Oh no, is this another Americanism I need to be aware of? Do you say make due? Really? Like titbit becomes tidbit… I don’t understand this one though.

Anyhow, love three-piece suits, love Zachary’s hair. And thank goodness it’s finally got warmer in London.

      • Krista
        +7

I’ve always thought it was make do. As in “I don’t have exactly what I need, but I’ll make do.” Now that I think about it though, I can’t remember ever seeing it written before, so I could be wrong.

        • Helen
          +3

That’s right. Make do is short for making [something] do well enough, where “do” carries the sense “to serve a specified purpose.” E.g., “Chris Pine isn’t exactly what I’d envisioned in a husband, but I guess I could make him do as a date to a party.”

      • Erin
        +1

Sorry — homonyms trip me up sometimes. It is, in fact, “do.”

  13. Kara K
    +3

Is ZQ trying to Mark Salling (of some years back or still? I don’t watch Glee anymore) his hair? Do not like.

Chris Fiiiiiine, though, I like very much.

Karl Urban looks lovely, usually, I don’t know what’s wrong with his suit. Though the face is still great. That’s good.

I’d like to throw my hat into the “Chris Pine is delicious” pile, and also add, why did Karl Urban steal my dad’s Fancier Church Suit?

    • AmyK
      +8

Maybe Karl Urban was going for the look of that Star Trek episode where Spock and Kirk end up stuck on a planet ruled by 1920s mobsters.

He’s just missing a fuzzy fedora and a Tommy gun.

First of all, Jessica, you are doing a fine job this week! Treat yourself to a diet coke on me.

Have to admit, I’ve adored Karl Urban since LOTR, so thanks for that on a Friday afternoon. And yes, a man adjusting his tie is sexy, because it leads to imaging what could have led it to have gone askew.

so, there’s a picture of Cumberbatch doing finger guns that I think you will enjoy: http://wpc.4d27.edgecastcdn.net/004D27/2013/RedCarpet/BenedictCumberbatchStarTrekLondonPremiere/Benedict+Cumberbatch+Star+Trek+London+Premiere+4.jpg

Am I the only one who finds Benedict cumberbatch scary??

    • Other Emily
      +11

No. I think he’s a terrific actor, but I do not find him attractive. Chris Pine, though…. Oy. Although in these recent photo spreads he seems like he’s squinting a lot, which is too bad because the eyes are soooo dreamy.

Karl Urban gets a pass on his too-big suit because he’s perfect in every other way.

    • Agent Sculder
      +15

You’re not. I find him attractive, but I didn’t until I saw him in Sherlock. I’ve since seen him in other things that I’ve found him attractive in as well, but he was super creepy in Atonement so if that’s the only thing you’ve seen him in, I totally get it.

He’s not conventionally handsome, and doesn’t photograph that well. He looks much better in motion, and honestly his voice helps A LOT.

    •  marie
      0

He can certainly look scary. And it’s hard to find him attractive if you haven’t seen him act or hear his voice

      • Mel

I’ve never seen him act. You guys are right, I’ll try to see him in motion!

        • Katharine
          +11

I don’t find him attractive, even in Sherlock, but dayum he is talented and brilliant. And I’d rather have talented and brilliant than any amount of eye candy on my screens.

          • Seamyst
            +4

I’d call him striking rather than hot, personally. Until he opens his mouth because *swoon*.

He was really fucking skeevy in Atonement, but I loved his blink-and-you’ll-miss-him role in The Other Boleyn Girl.

            • Sarah
              0

Yeah, Cumberbatch kind of creeps me out everywhere except the trailer for Star Trek. Because for some reason that is COMPLETELY unfathomable to me… he’s sex on legs. Swear I don’t have some kind of Villain complex.

    • PJ
      +6

Blonde Cumberbatch is scary (and disappointing) to me. Brown and wavy-hair Cumberbatch makes me all swoony and craving clotted cream & scones. (I have a thing with handsome men and rich foods).

      • Nina

Same here. He looks really alien (no pun intended) with blonde hair. Darker shades look great on him.

    • Chasmosaur

I find him more compelling than attractive.

Hence my life long obsession with James Spader.

  21.  marie

He hates his Sherlock hair too so it’s all good J. Personally, it’s so hard to explain my love for him (the man really doesn’t photograph that well) but moving forward I may just quote Simon Pegg who said about Bendy: “I want him to narrate my life.”

That being said, are we getting a Hart of Dixie recap today? that last episode slayed me.

    • Jessica

Nope, i haven’t gotten to it yet.

definitely looking forward to that recap. I was getting all shouty towards the end of the episode. and Tansy just bugs me.

This may be the most handsome cast I’ve ever seen.

I like Benny’s Sherlock hair, but not all slicked back like that. My favorite is when he’s got his natural ginger, though.

Karl Urban’s suit may not fit, but damn he’s pretty.

Chris Pine wins for best all-around look.

    • Agent Sculder
      +1

Same here. The Sherlock hair is fine when he keeps it curly. Slicked back is not so good, but I’ve heard he HATES the curls. And I also prefer him with his natural color, which I don’t think is quite “ginger”, but it’s close. It’s actually a lot like my hair color which is light brown with a reddish cast so in the right light I LOOK like a red-head, but I don’t think of myself as one.

  23. Michael

Forget ZQ’s hair. Loving the color of that suit!

I just want to admit that I watched a few episodes of Xena, just to see Karl Urban as Caesar. TOTALLY WORTH IT

    •  Alicia
      +4

You ought to watch a few Xena episodes when Karl Urban was CUPID! Yeah, he was wearing laughably terrible-looking angel wings, but he was consistently bare-chested, and no one can fault that. (He and Kevin Smith, who played Ares — R.I.P. — *may* have been partly responsible for my adolescent sexual awakening.)

      • jean
        +1

Karl played multiple dieties on Xena! A man of many talents. (Caesar pronounced himself a god and then they stabbed him, so take that hubris). I so agree that this is one dishy cast and I sort of adore Chris Pine for being so relaxed about it all. He has a fine odor of cheese about him that makes him a perfect James T. Kirk. I think he would rock as Han Solo too. He’s a bit of a throwback. Uncomplicated handsome, but not dim like say Tantum (sorry, but I find him VERY dim).

    • Other Emily
      +1

There actually are about a million reasons a person should watch Xena. I love that show. I have an abiding and unshakable love for Lucy Lawless because of it.

Other Emily: YES. I keep on waiting for Lucy Lawless to get another big TV show of her own. She is just so so good at all the things.

Simon Pegg is unrecognisable- he has been Hollywoodised but in a good way. I agree with other posters, Benny C’s voice is sexy- as is Alan Rickman’s voice- a voice is key- have you heard David Beckham talk? Eek!

    • Lizzy

Yes, it’s definitely his voice. Add Richard Armitage you your list, too.

Thanks for this round up. In general they all looked great at the premiere – they cut striking figures when needed, but also seemed lovely and like they were having great fun working the press and fan lines.

Cumberbatch’s suit and presence is awesome (though I wished he let his hair loose a bit) Pine looked fine, Urban looked retro, and Quinto’s suit looked lovely (though his hair was a bit unnerving for me)

  33. Mara
    +3

Karl Urban looks kind of like he’s the CEO for some sort of multinational company. Not wearing the overly tailored, skinny look a lot of actors are wearing these days, but still looking hot and well-dressed, IMO.

    Guys adjusting ties SLAY ME.

You should see the Berlin premiere photos where Zach was adjusting Simon’s tie then! So adorable.

It’s right up there with a man in a tux with the bowtie undone and just hanging around his neck, like he’s in the Rat Pack and it’s the end of the evening. Man, that is so good.

A kidney stone. Been through it before. It’s just he was staying overnight about 100 miles away – had to go and fetch him and drive him home. (Luckily, we have a commuter shuttle so I could leave my car at home.) Then the round of doctor’s appointments and picking up meds. It was A Day.

The men of Star Trek…Quinto is sexy; Pine is dreamy; Clarke is hunky; Urban looks a bit geeky and lawyerly here, but I still wouldn’t kick him out of my romper room.

  40. Lori

I know I’m late so no one will see this, but… Is it just me, or is there something very Dan Scott about Karl Urban’s suit?

  41. noo
    +3

Simon Pegg broke his foot on set the other week. He appeared finally without the cast/brace or his walking stick for this and the Berlin premiere’s so he gets a pass for the lack of tailoring.

Also Noel Clarke is not just an English actor, he is also a very successful writer and director as well.

Karl Urban’s suit, I love it, as his shoulders are just so lovely and broad. If you see him standing next to the others (check out the Sydney images) and you realise exactly how much broader he is than Zach and Chris and makes them look quite skinny.

Chris Pine has been Captain Fine since 2009 and I love his beard and all of his clothing this press tour has been out of this world.

Zach is Zach and that hair is just so Hitler Youth that it makes me uncomfortable to see it.

Love Benedict as an actor, but still photos never do him justice and his suit was a bit bland to my idea.

Lovely bunch of chaps (Benedict!) but men’s formal attire is SO BORING. It’s so dull we’re reduced to picking up on tiny details. Men used to make an effort – what the hell happened? Look at this gorgeous fellow http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/1stEarlOfCharlemontYoung.jpg
    - all that frogging, mmmm.
