Met Ball: Fug Nation’s Worst Dressed

In case you’re confused about why we’re not voting on everyone any more, I direct you to the Best Dressed poll (and further, perhaps, the Oscars best/wort poll), and also: we’re all too old to look at all the boring ones again, right?

Your worst-dressed is...:

Kristen Stewart, hands down. She looks like her hoo-ha starts right below her belly button.

  2. Dazie
    +5

Linda Evangelista. Seriously- WTF was she thinking?

I’m giving Kim Kardashian a pass on this, because of the alleged fat shaming. SHE’S NOT FAT SHE’S PREGNANT. And evidently temporarily blind, but I’m going to attribute that to the child. They suck your IQ ‘n stuff.

  3. Bella
    +13

Can I vote for all of them?

  4. Stefanie
    +20

Had to give it it to Kristen Stewart. I debated between her and Kim but ultimately I decided it’s best to look like a pregnant couch vs. looking like a giant vag.

Is there a reason Beyonce belted that dress?? Sigh

    • Anne B
      +2

“So again, without the belt it’s very Sasha Fierce. The belt adds something, makes it look more Punk-Mrs.-Carter.”

      - Beyonce

There is NO conceivable way in which Allison Williams’s dress could have been pretty. It is MONSTROUS!

    • michelle
      +4

I went through them all trying to find something worse but ended up back where I started with Allison William’s “dress”. Wow, that thing is horrible.

    • Karen
      +3

It is truly vile. I was torn for a bit between Williams, Carolyn Murphy, and Jessica Biel–those things don’t even look like they were sewn; just thrown on their bodies–but had to come back in horror to the patchwork lingerie butchery that is this “dress.”

    • kickassmomnyc
      +3

Agreed. Just what I thought when I saw it — what a monstrosity!I think it may be the ugliest gown I’ve ever seen in my whole life.

    • scone
      +1

I agree – I think hers is the worst; I just voted for Gwen because hers was truly horrendous, too, AND super disappointing to boot. (I excluded KimK b/c I am feeling bad for her these days)

  7. Gigi

Can’t vote against a healthy weight pregnant woman under the influence of hormones and KANYE-mones. Allison Williams for the win!

i had a really hard time deciding between ashley green and linda evangelista but had to go with green because that dress is RIDICULOUSLY unflattering. was it even fitted to her?? however, i am shocked they are both somehow so low in the polls! the other’s are admittedly bad, but those two are just awful.

    •  Janice
      0

It looked like Ashley’s gown was actually consuming its wearer. You can’t say that about the others.

    •  Kate

It would have been a good dress if she was well into pregnancy : imagine Kim K. in this, instead of the sofa upholstery?

  9. jensa
    +7

Normally I would vote for Kim K., but damn, girl is very preggers and deserves a little slack. Rosie Huntington Whatever, however, is dating Jason Statham and he deserves better!!!

    • kitten mittens
      +4

I didn’t dress like my great grandmother’s sofa when I was pregnant. It wasn’t like this was the only thing she had in her closet, this was made for her.

      • glee
        +3

Preggers doesn’t excuse one from lack of taste. She was the most horrendously dressed person at that function.

        • Anne B
          +5

The shoes in Kim K’s outfit (which are flowered, to match both gloves and dress) mean business. Deadly business.

They are sending us all a message: “Stop looking at me. Stop it NOW.”

I hear and I obey, Kim K’s Shoes.

      • Susan
        +2

I was torn–so many to choose from. But there’s no excuse for Kim. So matchy, matchy ugly sofa from Aunt Bea’s sunroom.

I’m very alone is liking Goop’s dress…not exactly punk, but I like it!

    • kay
      +2

that doesn’t explain the dress-gloves. it legitimately just confuses me- WHY?

  10. Amalia
    +6

Whole lotta NO in this slide show.

  11. Holly Hamilton
    +2

I can’t believe how hard this was to choose, some, by their very reputation will carry them through this: Gwyneth, others, always look bad, Kim K., Kristian S., but a few, by now should know how to dress and that’s why I went with Julianne Moore. However, I was torn between her and Beyonce but J. won out because of age (=wisdom supposedly).
But poor ole Ginnifer! Someone help her!
Gwen and a few others, they’re just milking the rocker bad girl, I can do whatever I want, go to hell, look.

  12. laura
    +7

How is Beyonce not wining by a landslide? I swear, I don’t understand the general public’s obsession with her, she is seriously fugging it up! And she was the co-chair of this thing!

    • kay
      +1

for me at least it’s because she put some effort in, and i could see how it could look great if it was structured differently and didn’t have matching boots. The others either didn’t try, or just looked dumb. Which is why i voted for kim k- seriously, what was with the arm glove things?

      • Guerra
        +1

In that principle didn’t Kim k put more effort in then the rest aswell? She had gloves and matching shoes! That’s as much effort as beyonce & her dress made her look huge without a pregnant belly!

        • kay
          0

well no, because all she did was wear a dress with an ugly pattern. at least you could see what beyonce was trying to do with the fire, it was just way too much. Kim’s wasn’t anywhere near punk, it was sofa. And also, if she wants to be more comfortable and look better while pregnant maybe she shouldn’t squeeze herself into tight dresses.

    • Aj
      +1

I went with Beyonce as well — that dress made her look like a tree stump being hugged by Swamp Thing. I was torn — the Ashley Green thing was equally stumpifying — but the belt put Beyonce over the top.

WTH why is katy on here? She looked awesome.Crazy yes, but awesome. God i feel like this year’s MET was polarizing.

    • RivalRose
      +3

I agree! I don’t know if it was punk, but I thought it was pretty awesome and not nearly as terrible as other things she’s worn. It fitted, it was interesting without being shocking or needlessly attention-grabbing, and I rather like it. I’m also lonely in liking Linda Evangelista just for being romantic-aging-hippy crazy instead of being boobs-to-the-wind crazy.
Kristin Stewart is my pick because a)jumpsuit b)poorly/intentionally weirdly? fitted jumpsuit and c) she should have had this theme NAILED. I mean really, I swear practically everything she’s worn before this point would work better.

    •  Janice
      +1

I had a hard time recognizing Katy without her breasts hanging out. For once, she was wearing something I kinda sorta might wear.

  14. Eirwen
    +1

OMG! So many choices of fug! I give Kimmy a pass as she doesn’t know any better- also see Katy Perry and Beyonce. But Gwynnie KStew and Alison W should know better but Alison for the win!

  15. Pouncer
    +4

I went with Gwen S., mostly for the vast disappointment. She could have nailed the theme and looked tremendous, and instead was just wretched.

KStew is also in my worst dressed for the disappointment. This is the one time her love for Chucks would have been appropriate! She rocks punk style on the street, why didn’t she take a risk here? I’d have loved it if she showed up in a ripped denim mini, a white tee, Chucks with crazy laces, unwashed hair, and major attitude.

The Sev was just hilarious (along with the caftan-clad Olsen twin).

    • themis

Exactly – Gwen and KStew were the biggest disappointments. And, what they showed in was tremendously hideous, to boot.

    • Aj
      +2

Sev is hilarious every time — probably why I almost never vote her worst at any event.

I voted for Kristen Stewart in her role as the latest celebrity to help Stella McCartney prove that as a designer she makes a very good heiress.

    •  Katharine
      +2

Stella’s entire fashion career seems to be punking us : Kristen’s jumpsuit looks like a clumsily repurposed daggy bridesmaid’s dress … BLECH and BLEARGH to this abomination.

  17. Trina

How is Minka Kelly not here?

  18. riga

I thought Ashley was the less awful of the two Olsens this time out. Hands down.

  19. Katharine
    +4

In the spirit of punk, there’s a few outfits I’d like to throw a straitjacket over here : but Kristen’s crotch cleavage jumpsuit is the most heinous.

  20. jenny

WAIT WAIT what is that dress happening behind Carolyn Murphy? With the red and white and amazing fit and huge and dangerous studded shoulders? I want it!!!

  21. Sajorina

This was a harder decision, but my WORST is KK because nothing abut it worked for me and thought she looked RIDICULOUS!

  22. Evangeline
    +1

KimK for the win! Not one redeeming feature to the whole outfit.

  23. Pauline

Wow, these are all bad. But I voted for Gwen Stefani because her dress is so boring. Also the bottom is baggy and shapeless.

  24. ChristieLea
    +1

So apparently Gwynnie is whining that the Met Ball was so”Un-fun”…because she was too hot. Blame your too-tight Pepto-Bismol sleeves, not the event, hag! That seals her worst-dressed victory for me.

  25.  Janice
    +1

Though I voted for Ashley Greene, I’m still wondering how Renee’s undressy dress and a tail of a cat run over by a steamroller go together.

  26. CopyChic
    +3

There are so many baddies here, it’s hard to pic a winner. Then again…for me, it’s hands-down Beyonce. She’s a hot mess with a side of curly fries. How HARD is it for people to get even in the same zip cod of this show’s theme. GOOGLE it, people!

  27. CopyChic

    code. lol.

  28. PB

I see a lot of bad clothes, but I see ZERO punk rock. Punk and high fashion have never mixed well, but this event proves without a doubt that punk is not just some clothes that you put on.

  29. liesbeth

    I sorta like Rosie HW’s dress …?

  30. laili

I actually loved Katy Perry’s look. It was cartoony, as she always is, but instead of the Saturday morning variety, it was more those found on medieval chapel walls.

  31. TonyG
    +3

Allison should be running away with this, but I believe the mostly deserved hate for Stella McCartney’s designs and for anything Kim Kardashian is giving those two a bigger bang for the fug.

  32. TonyG
    +4

    Dear Fug Girls:

I think Katy Perry’s deserved to be in the best dressed category. I think I am willing once again to vote on all the dresses in both categories. I am having buyer’s regret on previously opining that I liked the reduced categories. Damned my indecision! Are we allowed to change our minds even if it means…well…more work again for both of you and for Fug Nation?

    • Katharine
      +2

Agreed, on Katy Perry : this was an intriguing choice for a pop “empress” at the Met gala – thought it fit the theme better than either Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce. She looked terrific! But she’s not amongst the top fugging picks for worst dressed according to the current voting, so I’m content with present system : it did get unwieldy with dozens of names.

  33. Andrew S.
    +2

The only thing that redeems Gweneth’s to me is that her quote for the event alluded to her actually embrassing punk by being anti establishment and not confirming to the theme (she worded it miles better). Slightly convoluted but creative and a better excuse than everyone else had at least.

  34. Chris P
    0

On the flip side: I voted Kim Kardashian for worst, although really, her stylist and Tisci should get the trophy (which, in my opinion, should be the fossilized excrement of The Sex Pistols).

Look, Fug Nation. I know she’s pregnant. I know pregnancy does weird things to a woman’s head and body. But this is a complete failure of styling – her arms would have been fine if the dress had been left strapless. I might have even signed on had she safety-pinned leather sleeves (and NO GLOVES) on it – it still would have been fug, but it would have been thematic at least.

    As it stands:

    1) My grandmother’s bathroom drapes are many things. Punk is not one of them.

    2) This is WAY too much pattern for anyone. And you know what? If it had been sleeveless, it would have been less fug – but with the gloves, it sails all the way into Crazytown. I never thought I’d say this, but I miss the time she dressed up as Stevie Nicks for Liz Lange for Target.

In other words, when I think Ms. Doubtfire wore it better, you done goofed.

Anyway. Bottom tier: Alison Williams, Gwen Stefani (lady, you fronted No Doubt, and you spent much of the ’00′s traveling the globe followed by a bunch of Japanese chicks who never spoke. GET IT TOGETHER), Linda Evangelista (who I’m fairly sure is wearing Sansa Stark’s dream wedding gown), and Ashley. (Greene and Olsen – Greene because that dress makes her five hundred feet wide; Olsen because if there was ever a night to get off HMS Caftanic, this was it). And Karolina Kurkova.

And Ginnifer Goodwin – I presume the feelings are mutual, judging from that photo.

I actually beg to differ on Jessica Biel and Beyonce – Beyonce because…well, she’s Beyonce and she tried a bit (and a LOT harder than her sister – for the record, I think neither outfit deserved to be up for voting in any category, and I do suspect that part of the reason why they’re both up is because of Fug Nation’s feelings towards them), and Biel because…like, I’m choosing to see them as leggings, she’s wearing something covering her crotch (unlike Vanessa Hudgens), and they’re thematically appropriate. So, while it’s not an amazing look (like, it’s not like how SJP threw on Jackson Pollock’s curtains and still looked divine), it’s not really that fugly in my opinion.

In fact, it’s almost the exact same cut as Christina Ricci’s dress, I think.

  35. Michelle

Is it just me or is that not Zooey Deschanel?

    • Julie
      +2

I was thinking the same thing, but that doesn’t look like Renee Zellweger to me, either, so I thought maybe I was just losing my eyesight. Or something.

    • HKS
      +1

That’s just what she looks like without her bangs. It’s insane how much difference it makes.

  36. kindakute

Miranda Kerr…the hell? Olivia Wilde what? The color is used tampon and she looks so greasy! I have other thoughts. I have to look again. I agree that pretty much everything K Stew has worn up until now would have been perfect for this event. *sigh* Stella must please STOP! I can’t unsee that jumpsuit and it seriously is disturbing. I am suffocating just looking at Goop’s dress.

  37. Sarah
    +1

I had to vote for Renee; her outfit is the antithesis of punk. oh god. is that why she did it? because wearing the opposite of what you’re supposed to wear is totally punk? I think I just blew my own mind…

  38. Anna Maria Cárcamo
    0

EEW Beyonce, Katy Perry and Kim are scary! You should have shown a pic that showed more of Beyonce’s matching boots, she would be winning (or losing?) for sure! On the oether hand, I actually LOVE Miranda Kerr’s dress, and I like Olivia Wilde’s as well! This girl who people are saying is Zooey Deschanel but looks nothing like her had a great dress as well, but I agree it was a daytime dress!

  39. Edith
    +1

Had to go with KStew and the Navelabial Pantalunacy, but my first pick wasn’t even on the list! Whither Anna Wintour? Yes, her dress was pretty, in a grandmotherly way, but it was soooo off the theme that her wearing it seemed to be an overt rejection of the idea of punk as an aesthetic, and that truly bugged me.

  40. Nancy
    +2

I’m just going to say it- I LOVED Ashley Olsen’s yellow caftan. It was a crazy, beautiful, billowy ball of sunshine.

I am aware this makes me sound deranged.

    • HKS
      +1

Not so deranged. I kind of liked it too. Although I wonder if I was influenced by how happy she looked wearing it. She seemed to like it so much, it made me like it.

As far as the worst dressed, I think we need to continue to vote against anything Stella designs until she goes away. Another terribly ridiculously unflattering jumpsuit.

  41. Victoria
    0

    Lookit Bey’s boobs. Pregnant. Trust.

I am not a fan of the Clenchinator (i.e. Renee Zellweger) but I like her look here.

  42. Christine
    +1

While Ashley Olson totally missed the theme, I can’t help put love that caftan and wish I had it to wear around the house. It looks awesome!!

  43. Bambi Anne Dear
    0

I was going to vote for Beyonce but I’d forgotten (how?) that KK was in attendance.

I think a few worst dressed only belong on this list for being inappropriate- Punk theme aside. Miranda Kerr rocked that dress but the bare flesh was a worry, as was the illusion netting on Rosie Huntington-Thingie. I did love both dresses otherwise. I also loved Renee Zellweger’s although the brown was a bit dull. Oh, and I loved Blake Lively’s as well.

  44. Emily
    0

I had to go with Zooey. Her look was so, so wrong…just….no. Someone probably told her the theme was ‘natural, easy summertime adorableness’. There’s just no way a person would look at that dress otherwise and say, ‘I’m wearing this to the Met Ball!!’
