I might have liked this better for the theme two years ago, as there’s a edginess to the studded bodice that would’ve suited punk (at least, about as well as anyone else’s outfits did).

But her other two red carpet looks were both black, so I welcome the hit of color, which she carries with total panache. It’s just a cool gown. But the longer I looked at it, the more I thought I’d seen it before — and then I realized that in a way, I have. John Galliano is designing this couture line now, and back in 2007, when he was still helming Dior, he sent Cameron Diaz to the Met in this ruffled fuchsia that is awfully similar. I guess if he’s going to bastardize something, it might as well be his own work. Like being his own biggest fan. Self-esteem on a dress form.
