Met Ball Fug Carpet: Stella McCartney

I sincerely hated this.

Regular readers know that I am rarely quite that blunt. Or, at the very least, quite that blunt right off the bat. But this looks like a tongue attached to an occasional table, and while I’m sure other Gala-goers where thrilled to have a place to set their drinks, I can’t otherwise sign off.

You know, I might be OK with it if the body of the dress fit properly. And if her shoes had more “shoe” to them. If your pinky toes are hanging off, you need more shoe.

I would actually like it if the dress was more fitted to her waist.

I think Stella McCartney’s clothes are not flattering at all.

    @Joyce: NEVER. And I don’t understand why.

If the bodice actually fit her body, instread of being a wrinkly shapeless mess, this might have actually been sort of interesting.

    (but no.)

I wish Iman would stride over and just happen to plant one fabulous foot there and squash McCartney like and insignificant something on the carpet.

Why? Why would you wear something that transforms your breasts into…that? Why would someone who so poorly understands the female body become a designer? Why do celebrities wear shoes that are too small? We might never know.

Yeah, but at least her hair an makeup looks better than usual, amiright?

This one just leaves me aghast. Due to Stella’s love of her legs, it’s an eyeball scrollup. I thought it couldn’t get any worse after the droopy tongue tail, the OB GYN-lit interior, the poof fail – but that neckline just made me hate her.

I’m with @Joyce and @Geemee. I rarely find her clothes to look good on any woman – if they do it’s a rarity.

If she wasn’t Stella I’m-the-daughter-of-living-pop-legend-Paul McCartney, I don’t know if her fashion would have any traction at all.

Just found out Iman’s fab 70s jumpsuit was a McCartney. It’s like Bizzaro World…

I never thought Stella had any fashion talent and this dress confirms it. Ghastly!!

She looks like a new superhero. Octopuswoman? IDK. My head hurts just looking at it.

Just. Plain. Bad. To think this woman is a designer is unbelievable. I’ve never seen a garment more unflattering to a person’s figure.

It’s like a tongue attached to an occasional table with a tongue. The FLPFDFBVBFFBBPPRRHRR.

    Cute legs though.

She’s always got that smug little look on her face and I don’t know why. Her designs are hideous. She has no concept o composition at all. Her choice of colors and fabrics are always cheesy looking. Woman wear her dresses because her father’s Paul McCartney. Who knows, maybe each dress comes with a free audience with the old man. Goopy’s gown isn’t bad, but let’s face it, EVERYbody’s done that dress.

The most offensive part is not just that it’s fugly, but that it’s poorly fitted and looks badly made. That’s not the thing to bring to the Met Ball to showcase your work. Especially since Stella had a few other dresses on the RC for the event that were lovely.

This looks like an upside-down ice cream scoop.

Is it just me or does Stella look like she has bruises on the top of her knees?
And if she’s such a wonderful designer why doesn’ this dress fit her in the waist? It looks like she made so many dresses for other women that she forgot about herself and had to piece together something out of the scraps on the way over in the limo.

@freebies: wonderful comment! Made me chuckle for quite some time. The one time Stella looks fine makeup and hairwise she ruins it with a badly fitted dress. And bad shoes. Nice legs though!

Hideous. And bumpy in the boobs. And now that I look at it again, I think it’s giving Stella the finger.

Is she pregnant again? This fits her so, so weirdly in the bodice.

And can I just say how much I loathe those shoes.

I presume she designed for herself. If so this falls in the category of Self Loathing.

It’s just odd that something that tries so hard to have an interesting shape is, in reality, so shapeless. Nip in the waist and fold now the top of the bodice so the white lining shows. Add some intesting shoes, better hair and a smile.

This looks like it was hastily cut from a Simplicity pattern and sewn up the night before the ball.

She looks like she’s wearing a scoop. And now I wonder who got the idea to magically expand one’s hips first, her or Ginnifer Goodwin.

Perhaps fashioned out of a hollowed out penguin? I have never understood, much less cared for, anything McCartney has designed.

Most overrated designer ever. I’ve always thought that.

    SQUARE RUFFLE WUT.

Seriously? It looks like she’s wearing a dead shark.

I have never seen one Stella McCartney dress that I thought looked even competent, let alone good. The empress has no clothes.

If the bodice fit properly, this would ROCK for a Jetson’s themed costume party! (Where are our flying cars??)

I wouldn’t even put this dress in Target. Or is it Kmart she designs for? Those shoes are hideous. Her left foot looks like it’s a man’s.

i second the dead shark. i’m really thoroughly sick of this woman pretending to be a designer. it’s a rare item in her collection which even looks well made, let alone flattering or worth the price tag.

Upon seeing this, did anyone else cry out loud,”Stellaaaaaaaa” a la Streetcar Named Desire??? That is a fashion car crash!

God women are vicious to another woman. If this dress had been made by McQueen, you’d all be falling all over yourselves to praise it as edgy. Fact: Some of the best dressed women at the Met ball were in Stella’s designs — Iman, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts, and that kid Hailee What’s-her-Name, among others. Stella can’t help her last name. And after more than 15 years of success as a designer she still has to listen to catty comments like this.

She has nice legs and Jennifer Aniston would love those shoes. That’s all I could come up with.

I really think I like the idea of this. The execution was just SO terrible. Give this design to a talented seamstress, and see what she can do with it. It looks like a Project Runway idea that could have been so interesting if they didn’t only have 10 hours to sew… With some tweaks, this could be kinda cool. I would probably change up the train a bit too so it didn’t look like a tongue…

And those shoes. Bleh. If I never see another pair of shoes like that again, it will be too soon. I hate shoes with eensy little minimal straps. Shoes are art, and these look like bad Payless… Nobody wants to see feet, especially not squished pained high-heel feet. Bleh. Shoes do not need to be this minimal. Eeeeeek!

My darling husband remarked that she looked like a wine bottle cozy. That’s all I can see now.

I’ve got it. I know how to save it. I came back for a second look and realized she was going for Rocky the Squirrel. If she’d lengthen the tail a bit, do it up in brown faux fur, well, with those chipmunk cheeks of hers, I think she’d have a hit.
