There’s this wonderful moment in Catching Fire — which I literally just watched — wherein Effie Trinket gets out of the train and is greeted by a typically glum district scene and Elizabeth Banks chirps, “well. This isn’t very festive,” and it’s a completely brilliant little throwaway moment and I’ve decided to adopt this phrase throughout the upcoming holiday season if things don’t live up to my desired amount of festivity. Say what you will about the rest of Lupita’s frock here, but is IS very festive.

But let’s start with her face:

Her makeup is great, her smile is great, her face is great. I have face envy. (We can also see the details on her dress here. It’s very tactile.)

And here’s the whole look:

I think I like it. It’s SO seasonally appropriate, and I am a sucker for that.  Fug National Kizz Robinson tweeted us that she’d seen Lupita getting into a car, and that her dress was “winter white and gold. Very structured,” and that’s bang on: It’s VERY structured. Personally, I love a structured dress*, and I think this stand-up collar is great frame for her face. I also love sleeves in winter! SLEEVES on the red carpet! My kingdom for more sleeves! And you know how I feel about bling. So I am going to come down firmly with thumbs up.

*HOWEVER, it has recently come to my attention that what I thought was a little detail on the hem is actually…matching undershorts. I could not let you vote without knowing this fact. It has shaken me, I must admit.

But I'm not the boss of YOU. What do you think?
