Kids Choice Awards Mostly Well Played: Other People We Didn’t Have To Look Up On Wikipedia

well-played

We have Kids’ Choice, Teen’s Choice, Critics’ Choice… I feel like we need a Cranky Old Adults’ Choice just to make sure we get maximum specificity.

I think Willow looks really cute. Heck, I would wear that!

And it turns out she’s aptly named – she is indeed willowy! I guess she’s getting Daddy’s height and Mommy’s slender build. Lovely little girl, in a totally cute and appropriate outfit.

But why is she making us look up her nose?

LOL, I hadn’t noticed, and now that’s all I can see of her face!

I seriously hope that Willow is in reality a nice girl because in this photo she looks like a stuck up twat.

Dear, you just called a 12 year old CHILD a “twat.” I believe the Onion nearly got boycotted for about the same error? Like her or dislike her, her outfit, her pose, even her parents, calling a child a “twat” is never ok. Surprised the Fug Girls allowed this comment w/o at least a call-out considering how upset they get about anyone calling an adult woman a “slut” or any commenting on body types? Hello Fug Girls??

              • Christine
                0

And before anyone bothers to say this, ok, Bambi Anne Dear didn’t call Willow a twat, she said she “looks like a stuck up twat.” Sorry, same difference, just as clearly inappropriate in reference to a 12 year old girl. E.g., Quvenzhane Wallis, no?

                • Jessica
                  0

I didn’t say anything about it because I didn’t see it until just now; there are but two of us, and the website was broken all week. Sadly, we can not be everywhere at once.

I hope it goes without saying but no one should be calling anyone a twat around these parts. In the future, if there is a comment you find egregiously offensive, please email us to let us know and we will take a look, instead of assuming we agree with it. I appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt.

                  Thank you!

While I completely completely agree with your comments- this is just a geographical observation- I’m from the UK and we say ‘twat’ allllllllll the time, it’s not really a bad swear word, and seems to have lost it’s ‘body’ meaning. In the UK it just means ‘idiot’. ‘I was acting like a twat last night [when I got too drunk and puked in my shoes]‘ etc etc. Not that I ever did that. Anyway still not cool to call a little kid an idiot, but you get my point. What meaning does it hold in the States? Genuine question!

                  • Christine
                    0

Thank you for your reply. But who “assumed” you agreed with it? I certainly didn’t, that’s why I mentioned it and asked for your take on it. I was actually assuming it had somehow gotten missed which was why I said, “Hello Fug Girls.” And no, of course, you both can’t be everywhere at once – but I have to say after being a loyal reader for years now, you do a pretty damn good job about monitoring the comments. That’s another reason I was surprised – seems to me like very little gets by you two.

                  • Christine
                    0

My last comment was a reply to Jessica. As a reply to Nancy, in the US twat is essentially the same thing as c-u-next-tuesday (if you get what I mean which hopefully do). At least, to my knowledge it is. It definitely does *not* mean idiot over here and it’s very much not casually thrown around. At least not in the circles I know! But yeah, overall I’d say Europeans in general are much more lax about language and slang and cursing for sure. :)

Okay, I’m going to assume here that there’s confusion between “twit” and “twat.” “Twit” doesn’t mean idiot; it’s more like twerp. It’s a pretty playful word. Let’s further assume that “twit” is what Bambi Anne Dear meant.

OMG, Lucy Hale looks so pretty!!! I love it! I want it! I covet her necklace!

Lucy Hale & Rue look absolutely adorable.
I love how NPH did not stray from wearing a suit (such a Barney move) and dress all “fun” for the kid’s show.
Never watched Hellcats, but Ashley Tisdale is fab on “Phineas and Ferb” (on Disney Channel). Love that show!

Amandla Stenberg’s dress is great, very youthful yet stylish. Her peep-toe Louboutins (doesn’t it feel like by now we should have a drink named a Louboutini?) seem a little adult.

I liked Kristen Wiig’s outfit until I hit the shoes. To me, that was classic scrolldown fug. I also would like to steal Jessica Alba’s shoes. Apparently, I am all about footwear today.

Was there a “No Toe Cleavage” rule and that’s why there is so many booties?

  7. Helen

Hale really does look great, along with Victoria Justice, and so does Amandla Stenberg, though Stenberg’s shoes might be a little grown-up for her.

A rare misstep by Kiernan Shipka! Great dress, wrong shoes with it. Well, no one nails it ALL the time. Although, for her, I had hopes.

Alba and Tisdale both, no. Not horrendous, either, just… go change.

    CosgroveWHAT.

Ha. I was going to write the exact same thing about Shipka, and then point out the footwear pun. I really, really love her dress though. This makes me even more disappointed in the shoes.

      • Helen
        0

The pun was just STANDING there, waiting… who could resist?

But yeah, it is too bad, with such a great dress.

As she’s styled like it is in the lookbook, i’m a bit torn…On someone else, I might not hate them, but Kiernan doesn’t have the toughness to pull these shoes off….

Most of this is fine (Miranda excepted, in her weirdly shredded…whatever that is), but Danica’s looked like a bathing suit cover up. And not a formal bathing suit cover up either.

    • meggiemoo

Yes…it looks like a terry-cloth thing you throw on after a shower in a 1970s movie.

Seriously. I was just wondering what the holy hand grenade Danica Patrick has to do with Nickelodeon or children’s programming in general.

I mean, unless her lower body is part of one of those Sesame Street “one of these things is not like the others” songs.

I don’t understand why half of these people are at the Kids Choice Awards. I mean, yeah, Kiernan Shipka is a kid, but she’s on Mad Men. What kids are watching Mad Men?

    Get off my lawn, etc.

  10. Maisie

If that IS an apron on Victoria Justice, who cares, it’s adorable!

Can someone please clone Neil Patrick Harris so everyone who wants their very own NPH can have one? Or at least figure out a way to bottle his charm? (And no, that is not a euphemism.)

January Jones should hire Kiernan Shipka as her stylist! (And think how easy it would be to consult with her.)

Ashley Tisdale’s dress looks like mini blinds that my cats got at.

I vote for Cranky Old Adults Choice.
The Smith kids really need to get over themselves.

I’m assuming that the Cranky Old Adults Choice awards would feature a lot of NCIS. Please note, that isn’t a complaint. Mark Harmon is *still* easy on the eyes.

NPH is coming because we’re all still in love with Dougie Houser, yes? And while we would all make ghastly faces at Barney as a concept, we might still consider going home with him simply for having the chutzpah to run a play like , yes? And because he’s NPH, has **adorable** children and his fiance (husband? are they married yet?) is none too hard to look at either, yes?

Why is it that people always seem to go after the “Smith kids”? I really don’t get all the hate. What have they done? I read one site yesterday when someone went on a rant about how should Wilow know better than to wear this outfit on a body “with such shockingly thin legs”. Why are adults going after them, especially a 12 year old kid who seems to be having so much fun experimenting with fashion?

July, re my comment below, I can’t speak for others, but I’m not out to trash the Smith kids per se; I totally agree that kids shouldn’t be targeted, let alone hated (!!) by the public. It’s more the smarmy self-regard exuding from the parents, that includes their offspring, which puts me off. The kids haven’t generated it; but they are becoming unappealing products of it. Even when we recognise that an annoying or indulged kid is the product of their upbringing, knowing that sadly doesn’t make them any more likable. I think Willow is a great-looking and stylish girl, but the way she’s working the camera in this shot is off-putting to me.

If Willow had been smiling instead of sneering at us, I’d like her a whole lot more.

I think people can’t help but resent kids who achieve celebrity so easily. Nepotism never makes you popular.

Willow Smith’s posturing here is awful, to the point where her very cute outfit and great hair can’t save her. When I see her I always feel her parents have filled her head with all kinds of narcissistic crap. Just act like a kid, kid. As for Johnny Depp, what the hell is he doing at a Kids’ Choice event? And why does he have a HOLE in his hat?

  14. Chris P

    First picture, I literally gasped.

Holy hell, Willow Smith is growing up so fast. And she’s still raiding the Fresh Prince wardrobe closet, but it’s at least slightly less insane-looking now.

…she’s making me feel old and I’m not even 30 yet. (Close. But not quite there yet.)

  15. Maria

I often hope that people don’t let their young kids watch shows like Mad Men and How I Met Ypur Mother…and then my 10 year old will come home and tell me about how all his friends watch Family Guy.
Do we care anymore about keeping it appropriate for kids?

And I hope Depp was there for a Pirates of the Carribean thing. It is tiresome that he dresses like the love child of Captain Sparrow and Indiana Jones.

Awesome that Danica was there. Girls need to know they can be a damn good racecar driver if they want.

OMG YES SO SO SO SO SO OVER JD. Actually I’ve been over him since Pirates 2. Ugh.

And yes, hm, “soothingly dapper” is the most appropriate name for NPH’s style that I’ve ever heard. (I guess there’s a reason you guys have been successful at this here fashion blog thingamajig.)

    • Lola

Depp looks like he got his wardrobe out of a dumpster, gross. Shouldn’t Victoria Justice and Nina Dobrev be cast as sisters? They look so much alike. Alba’s hair looked a complete disaster.

    • Bambi Anne Dear

I think it’s more snoozingly dapper. Postively dull. And his tie’s too long.

I was wondering what the level of “smug” in that household would be like to encounter. Would it feel like high humidity?

NPH kills me in a good way. He shows up to a Kid’s Choice Award looking like an adult. A very cool, awesome adult, but still an adult. It shows respect to the kids. I think Sandra Bullock might have looked equally charming. And same with Kristen Stewart. Respect for the children! Good job guys.

I realize I’ll be in the minority here, but I really like Amanda Cosgrove’s dress. If you zoom in you’ll see it’s not shredded or like a bath mat at all. It’s actually all made from the same sheer fabric, and on the majority of the dress the fabric was pleated so as not to be sheer. I actually think it’s a really cool take on that sheer trend that I normally find ugly, tedious and a bit vulgar.

She always poses like that, as does Jaden (though his is more subtle). What a weird affectation. Her clothes are the cutest I’ve seen her sport in a long time, though.

And THIS was supposed to be in reply to the conversation upthread about Willow Smith’s chin first, up the nose, pose. Comments have been wonky the past couple of days – or is it just me?

I guess I am alone in thinking the Smith kids seem like they’d be major brats.

Aw, Hellcats. It was terrible but it’s OK to miss it. I mean, it had A. Tis, 2 OTH alums, and Gale Harold.

Maybe I’ve been watching too much of The Walking Dead but that’s all that flashed through my (admittedly somewhat tired) brain when I saw Miranda’s dress. I really don’t know why, the texture, the pattern, the section that looks like it was ripped out? I’m just glad the fabric wasn’t pink or red toned, that would have started up the nightmares again.

And I have to admit that I also think the Smith kids, and Momma, do look a little full of themselves. Will at least seems to have a sense of humour which gives me hope that he’s not as bad.

I am feeling really proud because a few weeks ago I tried on the dress Kiernan Shipka is wearing! It was of course super expensive, but it’s very reassuring to know that Kiernan and I have similar styles.
