This year marks Harper’s Bazaar UK’s 150th birthday, and their Instagram implies that they’re going to be going all out this year. As well they should, honestly. 150 is a long time to keep a publication afoot. I personally am almost always a fan of their covers — you can see them all here, but if you only have time to look at one, Helena Bonham Carter’s set from last year is unforgettable — and these are, so far, all quite beautiful. The first Claire up there — the close-up — is fantastic. It’s so 40s, so romantic, and that lipstick is exceptional on her.

I also love the subscribers’ cover, although it must be said that she DOES slightly look like she’s in the middle of a maniacal laugh:

What says “a dash of daring” like laughing your ass off in a tight white dress without accidentally somehow getting a smudge of red lipstick on your hem?

I reject the furry slippers on this cover — which I think is their collectors’ cover, something they seem to be doing regularly so far this year — but otherwise, I think this is really striking, too:

Seriously, those shoes are for EDITORIAL WORK ONLY; a woman was wearing them in front of me at the ATM last week and they are absurd in the wild. She looked like she’d stepped on her dog.

January also brought us some really beautiful collectors covers. BEHOLD:

While the standard issue January cover gave some love to an owl. Literally:

I kind of love it. We may all find the need to send a howler or two in 2017. May as well do it in style.
