Golden Globes Well Played: Laura Dern

Back at last year’s Globes, I unpopularly liked Angelina Jolie’s green sparkly dress; in hindsight I wonder if THIS is the dress I badly wanted that one to be:

Still classy, but with a pinch of cleavage. Laura Dern looks radiant. Also, Classy With A Pinch of Cleavage would make a killer autobiography title, if she’s hunting for one. Although maybe it’d be better suited to J.Lo. HAHAHA. Oh, man, it is too early in the week for me to be this punchy. Besides, obviously I meant to say Gaga.

I keep looking at all the best dressed lists and wondering where-the-heck is Laura Dern! Finally! I knew I could count on you, FUG Girls. I think this is flawless. Glam but also something I could imagine wearing, if I was as tall and svelte as Laura Dern.

Me too! I thought she looked gorgeous but there is no mention of her anywhere (except here!)

She looked fabulous! And apparently doesn’t age like we mortals…..nor does she ‘not age’ like Hollywood. Her super shiny mulch-dimensual hair makes me so happy.

There must be something wrong with me. I saw this and thought “it’s Little Orphan Annie, all grown up and happy at least.” At least I agree that Annie/Laura is looking really good here, although I think I prefer Annie as a redhead. Laura can have whatever hair she’s in the mood for, unless she becomes a cultural icon too.

Ahem, happy AT LAST, that is. I seem to have caught Claire L’s correction bug.

I was so happy when she won. I *loved* her on Enlightened (everybody watch it, it’s great.) And she looks lovely, of course, although I bet she and Kelly MacDonald were giving each other the side-eye all night.

She is a delight and yes, Enlightened is wonderful and unique. Watch!

Laura Dern and Jen Aniston should get together and outshine the boring and cold Saint Angelina at every awards show from here on out!

She does look amazing in this, but I would have liked to see it in another color. The emerald green combined with the belt is almost Irish leprechaun-ish.

Not to mention she had one of the best accessories: Ben Harper!

Loved this dress. Was very confused when I saw it on a couple of worst dressed lists. Glad to see I’m not alone in liking the dress.

If we’re going to talk green dresses, I hope Evan Rachel Wood’s is coming up soon. She rocked that frock for sure. My favorite of the night.

I know! I saw this on some site as “bad,” and I totally don’t get it. Beautiful color, and it looks good on her. On someone shorter and more endowed, I might not like the neckline, but it looks very pretty on Laura. Maybe the sleeves could be around her elbow, but I also like them long.

I think this is one of the prettiest dresses I’ve seen in a long time. Gorgeous color, perfect fit, lovely design, and glitzy in just the right way. Love!

This is my choice for Best Dressed of the Night. Unlike the vast majority of “gowns” at this shindig, it is appropriate for her age and bod, it’s a beautiful COLOR, it’s head to toe glitter instead of some weird stop and start of glitter and/or feathers and/or crepe paper, it’s not a strapless doing bizarre things to her boobies, and it doesn’t have a back or FRONT fish tail hem, and it makes her look radiant instead of washed or gothed out. Perfection, in other words.

What a gorgeous dress. This was my favorite dress at the Golden Globes; I couldn’t stop saying “I want that dress! I want that dress!” much to the chagrin of those watching with me.

Laura Dern and Diane Lane must have made some kind of pact with the Devil to look fabulous forever while they were filming Ladies and Gentlemen: The Fabulous Stains.

This is my best dress of the GG’s! She looks fantastic – the colour, skin tone, cut of the dress…a classy act!

The people who think this dress was awful are just not sophisticated enough to appreciate it. This was one of my favorites of the whole night; I love the whole retro-glam feeling and the color is wonderful. Bonus points for not looking like anyone else’s dress, either. I would also like to see something like this on Jemma Mays.

I like it certainly one of the best dressed of the night. Though no chance of me going to a raving mess over it.

However I LOVED Angelina’s dress from last year so no hindsight dissing..

I think she looks like a lounge singer in this dress.

I LOVE IT! It’s perfect for a tall, thin & fabulous woman… Kristen Wiig should learn how to do it right from Laura! GORGEOUS!!!

Better question is who is that woman in the background with that black dress on with those work shoes? Yikes!

This blows Angie’s out of the water. I never liked that dress much – the color, the sparkles – those were all good, but beyond that, it was still only mildly better than her usual caftans. This year however…..

No – we’re talking about Laura Dern here, and she looks FANTASTIC. I want that dress.

This was the first dress I really paid attention to when I was watching the Golden Globes. GORGEOUS. And she looks nice wearing it too.

The kiddies and their stylists should all take a look at how fabulous Laura Dern and Diane Lane looked because their dresses fit them instead of looking skin tight and painted on. [But in the interest of disclosure I must admit I hate tulip skirts no matter how "well" they are done.]

Loved this dress. Just the right amount of skin with the added glitz of the sequins/sparkles. She looks amazing.

I hadn’t seen this before– I love this! I have a soft spot for Laura Dern and I think she looks beautiful and classy here. The dress is gorgeous and sexy and elegant without being over the top. Love it!

This was, BY FAR, my favorite look of the night. When she walked up to accept her award, that dress was GANGBUSTERS.

I didn’t see the telecast, but I bet this also looked stunning in motion. Like a sparkly waterfall. Yum!

I like th ecolor & the sparkles but I think this cut is really unflattering on Laura Dern. She has no waist and it makes her hips look weird and her thighs look massive. Sorry: fug.

      Exactly!

Also, I do not care for the lemon yellow hair with her pink complexion. The color of the gown is wonderful, but the cut does wonk out her figure. Her lovely figure deserves better! Laura deserves better. But she does indeed look radiant.

Covet. Best of the night, or at least top three. I saw it and told my husband I wanted it — he looked at me like I was crazy, with good reason — I told him “I would walk around town in that dress. I would go grocery shopping in that dress. I would vacuum in that dress. Don’t judge me.”

He left the room, but my point stands.

I love this dress, and I love her. I also wanted to say that she has not aged ONE DAY since “Jurassic Park.” I don’t know if it’s great genes, a great plastic surgeon, or a combination of the two, but whatever she’s doing, she should keep it up.

    (The dress is awesome.)

Yes, I reckon it is that dress. This is the kind of dress that makes me hope I will have an excuse to wear something very like it sometime before I die. (Unlikely.)

So much better than Kelly McDonald’s. She was done in by sequins. But what a way to go, Death By Sequins.

I know a lot of people like this dress, but I just feel like it looks like someone dragged astroturf through a giant pile of glitter.

I liked Angelina’s better. This one fits sort of like a v-neck rugby jersey and makes her look boxy and athletic. The pine-green fabric looks like a glittery Christmas tree skirt.
