News that T. Bone Burnett isn’t doing the music for Nashville next season has me HUGELY concerned, because the music was the thing that show did perfectly every single time, and everything else was an inconsistent mess. I am going to try and reserve judgment, but… Hayden had better have new reserves of acting thunder to bring, because otherwise, I have bad feeling about this.

And about this:

She’s at an Armani fashion show, so presumably Armani dressed her; I’m unclear why Armani would be making baggy blouses that look like a kindergarten art project interpretation of a tuxedo, much less why they’re doling those out to starlets, but if you ask me she should’ve just called in sick and fallen into a Mai Tai. Maybe I’ll do that right now, in sympathy. *cough* Ahem, Jess, I’m not feeling great.

Lainey said yesterday that she would prefer this on Kirsten Dunst, which I think is spot-on. Think about this look on Dunst, Michelle Williams, Sofia Coppola (the latter two would probably wear with flats)… it would be spectacular. Hayden just looks like she’s playing dress up. I think it’s a case of right outfit, wrong girl.

i agree with you. when i saw it i thought it had a retro 1950s era feel to it and liked it for that reason. but it looks costume-y on her. also hate the shoes.

Her posture doesn’t help. She’s kind of thrusting her chest out or something. Weird.

  2. Maria L.

I think it would look really cute without the cartoon mustaches on her chest.

They are Mario AND Luigi’s! You’re so right – put a finger over the bows, add flats, and this would be pretty, simple, and Hepburn-esque.

Those ribbons are ridiculous, love the shoes and her make up though.

Scale down the bows and this would be an unreserved Fab for me. It’s almost there.

And gosh, she just gets more and more beautiful! Her face has never looked better. Love the simple, showcasing hairstyle.

I don’t know, I think it’s kind of cute, and she looks good. Of course, I just saw Miley’s outfit, so in comparison, this is, like, the best outfit ever for a young women!

Either way, she’s looking pretty smug about the whole thing.

  7. Mina

Aww how cute! An employee at Michael’s fashioned her some ribbons for her shirt out of raffia!

  8. Frances

Great fitting pants! I have such a hard time with pants and – from what I’ve seen here – a lot of women do. I feel the need to praise and celebrate the ones that work. :)

I think she looks polished and just fine.

  10. Liz

I think she looks great except for the giant bows. If they were smaller and if the top were a little more fitted around the bust, I’d like it more. Love the shoes.

Buddy Miller (Burnett’s replacement) is FANTASTIC. He’s got credits as a solo performer, back up musician, band director, producer, songwriter. He’s got the connections and credentials to make it work. Nashville will be fine.

I hope you’re right. The music was the one thing Nashville did consistently well.

I don’t watch Nashville but I can testify re Buddy Miller. He performs with, among many others, Patty Griffin (who is the Best Singer Songwriter in the Universe).

I don’t know. Only Audrey Hepburn would look good in this look, and probably not even her.

Of course Audrey would have worn flats.

I’ve never had a Mai Tai, but I really want one NOW!

    •  HelenBackAgain

      They’re DELICIOUS.

And dangerous. Make sure someone else is driving when you try one!

I think she looks dowdy. Imagine, dowdy in Armani in your 20′s!

Those pants are wrong. They don’t fit — if you have horizontal creases at your crotch, your pants don’t fit. Fix the pants, and maybe the shirt wouldn’t be so dreadful, but as it is it’s just painful to see her. And she’s so good in Nashville, so I don’t want to be pained to see her.
