I suspect, but can not be sure that this is courtesy of Holmes & Yang:
Whoever’s handiwork it may be, it would benefit from a generous application OF FIRE.
I kind of like the dress, but I never would have guessed the identity of the wearer. Her face looks… different… though maybe it’s just a combination of the camera angle and squinting at the camera flashes.
I agree–I think it’s just a supremely unflattering photo. She does look kind of happy, though, for a change.
her face looks like its melting. also, I cannot look at her hyperextended knees without wincing. oh, and the dress is frumpsville.
This is Bottega Veneta, and so is her clutch. HIDEOUS nonetheless!
Why does she dress in clothes that make her look so old?
I dislike the dress immensely. I think a big part of my problem is that they took a potentially promising print and uglified it all to hell. They cut is boring and a little matronly, and then they embellished and be-studded with no rhyme or reason…it looks like they made this dress by reaching into a hat where random bad fashion ideas were written on scraps of paper.
But more than anything, I agree that she is unrecognizable here. I honestly had no clue who this was until the reference to Holmes & Yang. She’s still very pretty in this photo, so I wouldn’t call it “supremely unflattering.” She just looks like a different person altogether. Her face appears much fuller and her eyes an entirely different size and shape.
…At least her hair looks good?
But seriously though, this looks like she rolled around in cigarette ash.
Wow, she looks a decade younger. Agree on the hair. Maybe it’s something about the name? Her, Kate M., my niece of a similar name….fabulous manes on all of them.
The dress is doing her no favors.
The hair is the win, here. When was the last time we saw her with styled hair?
She kinda looks like Khloe K in that pic (and for a second I actually thought that). Very odd shot.
Yes — I thought she was one of the young two Kardashians. Weird. Are we really sure it’s Katie Holmes?
Ha! I enjoy the implication that Kim is the old Karshadian sis. Not because I have a thing against “oldness” (as a collector of antiques and an antique myself), but because it illuminates the disparity between Kim’s age and her actions.
Ahem, so…this photo? of Katie? Never woulda guessed it was her. She looks like the CEO of flight attendants in the 1980s.
Lustrous locks, though!
Huh. I love a good day dress, and this could be one if (a) it were daytime and (b) the neckline were flattering and lost whatever that weird black & white embellishment is. It’s an odd photo – like she was caught by the camera before she was ready, halfway through a laugh that she’s stifling at the last moment, but she looks HAPPY and HEALTHY, so Go Kate Go.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought Katie was someone else! It must be a weird photo angle. I’ve just looked at other pictures of her from this event, and she looks like herself in those.
She looks like shes slouching… stand up straight!!
And no, just NO to the dress.
TaraMisu – the slouching must be from 6 years of towering over Tommy Boy.
Are black opaque tights and heels okay these days? Or just on “fashion designers”?
They’ve always been okay in winter IMO.
But those are some ugly shoes.
I love wearing opaque tights & heels, especially in NYC! And, I love the shoes!
Who is that?
see…. this is nearly fixable to me. cut out that weird black and white v-neck thing and just making in a plunging neckline dress, and I’m in.
Her face looks…different. Puffy, and weirdly shiny. Not alleging that she’s had anything done (and the shininess is probably a makeup/lighting bugaboo) but I will say that I had no idea this was Katie Holmes until I read the tags for the post.
The dress pattern is awful, but I’m mostly distracted by the black pantyhose/black shoes combo. Katie, I wear black hose with black shoes because it’s the dress code at work. You have options. Use them. (Or at least find black hose that’s a bit more opaque and not prone to giving the impression that you’re using them to hide winter-white legs.) (Which, I mean, maybe you are. I can relate. But that’s why I wear opaque hose.)
hilarious post. audibly laughing in a library. thank you.
I like the print, the cut, the clutch and the shoes (very much, the shoes) and even the chevron embellishment but not the neckerchief or belt. And I don’t believe this IS Katie Holmes. Celebrity look-a-like hired to draw fire, maybe.
That face could belong to no one other than Suri’s mom.
Oh, that’s Katie! After watching many seasons of Dawson’s Creek, I recognize that face and those hands anywhere!
Other photos from the event look more like her. So I withdraw my cockamamie suggestion. (Rare occurrence, that.)
Her hair is nice and shiny but she went a little overboard with the BeneTint there.
I think it just looks too heavy. Like, her stylist didn’t know when to stop adding extensions.
This outfit would benefit greatly from a dose of my mother’s “stand up straight and get your hair out of your face.” As with so many other thinkgs, she turned out to be right.
The deep v makes me think of Superman about to rip off his clothes. Maybe there’s something more interesting (Spiderella dress?) under there?
There really just is nothing of the good here. The dress is ugly and doesn’t fit, the clutch clashes, it’s much too much hair, the makeup is for a fair-haired 16-year-old, and the shoes… well, I guess they could be useful in a cheap hotel room, to augment the occasional exterminator’s work.
It would, however, agreeing with Evalyn, look a lot better despite all that, if Holmes just stood up straight and got the hair out of her face.
Yuck- this pattern looks like lichen- the kind that kills trees and Katie, you are the tree in this scenario. – What’s that weird neckerchief thing? And the bad posture too! Sheesh!
I would prefer to wear an oven mitt than what she’s got on.
I’ve got it! She looks like a young Lauren Graham here.
Her hair & makeup are FLAWLESS! And, I love the shoes & clutch! WANT! The dress is nice… I like the patterned fabric and the detail on the waist and skirt, but I would LOVE it without that piece of black & white fabric sewn to the deep v-neck! Still, I think she looks BEAUTIFUL! Can’t wait to see her on Broadway!
She reminds me of Ginnifer Goodwin in her Snow White long hair wig when she’s in FairyTale Land! From the neck up obviously…Snow White has a much different wardrobe. Katie’s dress isn’t too bad, and as far as the tights and shoes…where I live in Canada, you gotta wear that in the winter or you freeze your butt off, so it’s fine by me!
What happened??! Maybe it’s the divorce.
