Fugs and Fabs: Women at the GQ Men Of The Year Shindig

Men, shmen! Dresses are more fun. We’ll get to the suits eventually, but whatever the hell Diane Kruger is wearing — plus the absurd raft of other famous people in questionable outfits — is more important right now.

Hah! I love Clueless, and I love that other people immediately think of that scene when they see a skimpy, simple dress like Rihanna’s.

Agreed. I feel like my day in incomplete if I don’t find a good reason to apply a Clueless quote at least once!

My BFF and I re-watched Clueless last week and discovered two things: 1) I know almost all the words and 2) It never gets old or unfunny!!!!!!

An impressive amount of fug from one event. Is someone poisoning the waters of LA with a potion that causes mirror blindness?

The only ones who look even remotely acceptable are Emily Van Camp and Jenna Dewan. And let’s not kid ourselves, the bar is not being set high here.

How is it possible that these people have all this money and PEOPLE TO PICK THEIR CLOTHES OUT FOR THEM, and yet they all manage to look like they’re auditioning for What Not to Wear?!

LOL, the Clueless scene was the first thing I thought of, too! I’m almost wishing Ri had worn Cher’s “jacket” as well. My brain might have exploded. But that probably would’ve been too demure for her. *eye roll*

I also hate to admit that I saw the pic of Jenny Garth and thought, “Wow, Melanie Griffith’s looking great these days.” Sorry, Jenny.

Did anyone else think Jamie King was Lindsay Lohan for a brief moment?

      I totally did!
Then I thought, poor Jamie, that’s never a look you go for intentionally.

Come on… SNL did a skit in which Matt Damon played Justin as he danced-off with “Britney”! It was hilarious!!!

Oh Rihanna….I’m almost convinced that she is so naked all the time now to prove that she isn’t hiding any bruises. :(

Katie Cassidy’s dress looks like what would be a really gorgeous dress reflected in a fun-house mirror.

    Clueless FTW!

Excuse me? JT and Brit had a dance off? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?

Um, platelets are clear – so C.B.A.’s dress is safe from staining.

But man of the year, what a fug carpet overall!

Anyone else think Julianne Hough looks like a cross between Cate Blanchett and Cameron Diaz here?

    • glee

She should be so lucky as to be Blanchett adjacent.

She is a young, beautiful woman with a banging body (all three of them are, for that matter), but Julianne has the dew of youth that has been wiped off/sucked out by Seacrest? Are they still a thing? Maybe that’s how he stays so unnaturally spry?

I think Julianne’s auditioning for Housewives of Orange County.

Why does Julianne Hough insist on dressing like she’s 35 instead of 25? If those pants were just slim cut cigarette pants, plus an interesting color shoe, she would look 10 times better.

    Dearest Rihanna,
Please do not wear your negligees out in public.
    Signed, your mother.

I get your point (mom!), but I must admit it’s kind of cool that nothing detracts from her lovely face. And her hair looks great. It’s all very unfussy. I don’t find it all that sexy either probably because she is nearly nude so often.

No love for neopolitan???!!! It’s in my house! Or, Bluebell Ultimate Neopolitan is and that’s fantastic.

Neopolitan can always be in my house! Why aren’t people eating Neopolitan?

      • Sajorina

It’s Neapolitan Ice Cream! My dad always buys it because he likes the strawberry, my mom likes the vanilla & I like the chocolate, so everybody is happy! No one said you have to eat all three flavors at once!

M.E. you must live in Texas. Blue Bell about the only thing I miss about my home state, but man, do I ever miss it!

Jessica Pare’s dress is definitly cool. Cool and really good on her. And is it just me, or is Jaimie King’s top making her boobs look akimbo? Like almost diagonal from each other?

    I lurve Erin Heatherton’s shoes!

Most of these inspired my 6 year old daughter to scream out “OH MY GOD” (very capsy-like, in my ear) and then she asked me why ladies want to wear oatmeal.

Was this event color-coded? Everyone is in cream, and/or black, or orange. (Except for that crazy renegade in blue. )

    • Erin

I was wondering the same thing! Because it wasn’t even just orange – there were 3 dresses of the EXACT same shade. That can’t be a coincidence.

I like that one in blue. I’m sure she bucked a colour-code rule, there was far too much blending with the backdrop going on. There was a famous instance at the Oscars where the ladies traditionally used to have to all wear white, and I think Norma Shearer wore red and that’s when civilisation started to decay.

Diane Kruger & Erin Heatherton look FABULOUS! But, Willa Holland & Emily VanCamp FTW! Absolutely GORGEOUS! They look BEAUTIFUL and appropriately dress for the event! YOU GO, CW Girls! FAB!!! Now, I believe that another CW Girl will give me “La Isla Bonita” nightmares… I’m talkin’ ’bout you, Jamie King!

This is, without doubt, the worst-dressed event of 2012. Celebs, pick up your socks! (Not your Sarah Silverman. Burn yours.)

I love love love Emily VanCamp’s dress. I want it in my closet now!

Wow. This post was a Fug Madness bracket all by itself.

Yeah, this whole thing (save Emily VanCamp, Jenna Dewan, and maybe Jessica Pare) is a total horror show.

Some of this stuff was truly horrifying. However, Diane Kruger can make even a necklace skirt seem sexy with that gorgeous waist/lower back of hers. Sigh.

I do like that sequin-Neapolitan dress. It fits well, it’s lovely colors, and it demonstrates that trying too hard is never as sexy as knowing what to reveal. i.e. Not your panties, Ritter.

I must have a serious girl crush on Diane Kruger. Intellectually, I know the dress is awful, but she is just so damn hot and cool at the same time that I don’t mind it.

  23. Lily1214

Is that a man’s jacket over her shoulders?

  24. M.Amanda

That is the kind of “edgy” dress only Diane Kruger (or Cate Blanchet) could pull off.

Julianne’s hair and makeup look great. I wish she did that sort of look more often, but dressed more her age instead of 10-20 older.

Jaime is above looking like Lindsay Lohan.

I love Emily Van Camp’s dress enough to almost, but not quite, forgive the shoes.

I love Neapolitan ice cream. Three kinds to satisfy your craving without having three boxes of ice cream taking up freezer space. How can that be bad?
