Fugs and Fabs: The Tiffany Event

I was wondering why Gwyneth skipped out on the Iron Man 3 shenanigans happening in London. I guess when a jeweler asks you to come hang out at its big ball, you call the studio and tell it you don’t want to see the movie again right now anyway and that you’ll make it up to them with weird outfits at the U.S. premieres.

Re: Poppy Delevigne. Didn’t this Krisha-type face also appear on a skirt Katy Perry wore to Coachella?

    • LoriK
      +1

Yes, and that probably should have given Ms Delevigne a hint about making a different choice.

God, I’m glad I’m not the only one who spends enough time reading this site to see a photo and think “hey, so-and-so wore that same outfit to such-and-such event last week.” Thanks again Fug Girls for the many hours of entertainment that allows me to make such observations. :)

if only I had any kind of memory banks at all, to remember those things myself. Thank God you guys do!

I saw someone comment on Perry’s Cochella outfit and say that was from a “racist” line of clothing that has been shunned. I hadn’t heard anything about it, but I wonder if they were talking about the style of faces. Supposedly it is Dali.

(Just did reseach and the Dolce and Gabanna spring line had used…um, what they called “moorish” inspiration for earrings and skirts, most which were more offensive than this particular skirt)

      • Goldfish
        +1

“Moorish” has to be my favorite euphemism of the year.

I see the point of the offense of the Hindu faces also — I mean, this IS the religion for millions of people. And I’ll bet you anything that Dolce and Gabanna is not a sanctioned endorser. Then again, I do try to let Katy Perry be my guide in these matters.

Carey M. looks so washed out. I do not like that cut of the jacket at all!

Mrs. Timberlake finally got rid of the bangs and her face is gorgeous!

I think Gwyneth carries off that look really well. She has nice shoulders and just looks comfortable.

I don’t like how you can see Gwyneth’s bellybutton under her dress. Is anyone else bothered by this? If we were seeing her nipples under her dress, we’d say that was a no-no. I kinda feel like seeing her navel is the same thing – its unwantedly intimate. The dress is a pretty color, though, and if not for the droopy sleeve effect, it would be lovely.

    • Rayna
      +5

Yes. Sigh. I’m not wearing ANY UNDERWEAR, YO!

“Unwantedly intimate.” Like so many other, errr, details about your body, (the skill level of your waxer, what???) this one should not be shared in public.

    • Gigi
      +1

We’re not seeing nipples, we’re seeing lacy or badly tailored bra, whether built-in or separate from the dress. And the dress is also giving her polterwang.

I like Gwyneth’s dress on her and I love the way she accessorized it with the jewelry! Plus her hair & makeup are flawless! LOVE Jessica’s dress & her hair looks beautiful! I like Megan’s & SJP’s dresses, and think that Michelle’s is interesting and a nice color! But they are all suffering from Nude Lipstick Syndrome… It’s a huge epidemic in Hollywood and I want it to end!

Didn’t Natalie Portman wear the dress Doutzen Kroes is wearing to the Golden Globes? I have seen it or it’s doppelganger before!

I hate Gwyneth’s dress. She is beautiful but that dress is unflattering.

    • Rachel
      +1

Yes! That was driving me crazy. It wasn’t flattering then and it isn’t now.

Yes, Portman wore it at least 2 years ago. It looked great on her. It looks godawful here.

I love SJP’s sapphire evil eye! And the color and matte satin sheen of Gwynnie’s dress, but the fabric looks dented; I guess it’s unlined? Doutzen looks deranged in that dress.

    • BrownEyedBetty

Yes, she’s wearing an Evil Eye. But what’s that other thing on her chest next to the EE..?? Can’t quite make it out…

      • filmcricket

It’s a 2nd necklace, for reasons passing understanding. It’s quite pretty close up, but it just looks dumb deployed with the other one.

        • Elise
          0

Yeah that gave me pause too. It looked like a brooch smashed onto her boob which is yucky and painful-sounding. And it looks stupid, I agree. Plus the dress gives her droopy boobies!

I am so confused by the terrible washed-out makeup on literally everyone at the event – were they all forced to use the same makeup artist? And is said makeup artist allergic to all lip color? I wonder if Tiffany’s has a say in the overall look of each celebrity that attends (esp. Kate Hudson with the dress that EXACTLY matches the signature Tiffany’s color). I’ve never noticed this before at similar events, so…it seems odd to me.

I was in Sephora recently, and you know how they slam you down in a makeup chair if you’re not on guard. I wasn’t on guard, and the girl said “the new thing is to match your lipstick to your face tone.” I was like, “Uh, no, I’d like to look as though I am living, thanks.” But these women here can carry it off I guess. But I don’t love it on them, either.

        >>“Uh, no, I’d like to look as though I am living, thanks.”

I need to stop in and get some MUFE soon, and if you do not mind, I am totally going to use that if they try this on me!

I think dress #8 was recently worn more successfully by Alicia Florrick in a fairly entertaining scene set at a Black Tie Event on the Good Wife.

I’m so happy to see Jessie B wearing something flattering and gorgeous while also getting that fringe off her face that I want to hug her. I forgive her for the pale makeup. If anyone can get away with it, it’s probably her.

    • Tiffany
      +3

I agree! She is so pretty and it is nice to see her dressing to flatter that finally! A touch of color in her face would have helped, but I feel this is a big step forward.

Carey looks like she’s regretting her outfit, judging by the side eye she’s got here! It does look bad.

I actually like Gwyneth’s dress, am I losing my mind? I read somewhere that she had to miss the premiere of Iron Man3 in London because it was pushed back due to Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, and Gwyneth was already scheduled for this event.

    • BrownEyedBetty

No..I think GP looks lovely here too. Gorgeous color and drapes beautifully. Not everyone could pull this off, but she does. Carey Mulligan looks positively ill..maybe she was..?

  11. Kris

Megan Hilty’s dress is committing Crimes Against Mammaries. That looks really uncomfortable. And I think the faces on Poppy Delevigne’s dress are judging me. That’s some unwanted meta right there – quit judging me while I’m judging your outfit!

If Carey M’s outfit, actually. If she had been wearing more than just lipgloss on her face, I would have crowned her the winner. All of these ladies look like they’re made up for day. I thought one of the spring trends was bright lip color. What gives?

That was supposed to be LOVE Carey M’s outfit… *need more tea*

You might feel familiar with Kate’s dress because Ellie Kemper wore a very similar one at the SAG awards. Hers just had some lace on it.
Anyway, I know this is a jeweller’s event, but what’s the thing with SJP wearing two big necklaces of the same length? It looks really weird that one is basically sticking on her boob.
    Love Jessica’s dress!

  18. Fifie

Carey Mulligan looks way older than she really is, with that makeup.

    • Helen
      +6

And way less pretty than she really is. That is some bad makeup.

The outfit… well, I love that she’s taking chances, but it’s very SWINTON. I think you kinda have to grow into being able to pull off that sort of drama, and Mulligan well might but she hasn’t yet.

  19. Michelle

I love what Carey Mulligan is doing. Her whole Jazz Age, Great Gatsby thing, which featured Tiffany jewelry so prominently, is such a strong character visually. I always get excited when actors attend movie events dressed in super contrast to their characters, and this is kind of like that.

Love Paltrow’s dress, but not on her. Picture it on the body of Rose McGowan or Dita von Teese – someone curvy yet sharply defined like that – good, right? I’d put it on either of them.

Biel, you know, despite the hideous lipstick, fine, I’ll take it. It’s such a relief to see her in a dress she can carry. She should wear formal-drinks-on-the-lanai things all the time!

Williams NO. But “horn-hip,” heh. Hudson NO. Delevigne NO. Kroes NO. Mulligan NO (and I love her dammit). Lots of fug up in here!

Hilty meh. Not cut very well for her. SJP meh. I’d like to see it sans jacket.

Carey Mulligan’s head is pure SWINTON, and I approve.

What the Hades is going on in SJP’s necklace area? Are there two? Is there an off-center bejeweled temporary tattoo? WHAT IS THAT THING?

    • Helen

Ha, I just heard that last question in my head in the voice of Westley talking to Humperdinck.

  24. Elizabeth E.

Well, at least Kate H. is demonstrating how to wear a dress with a high slit WITHOUT sticking one’s leg out compulsively. That’s something.

    • Helen
      +2

Yeah, true… I don’t think it really helps. That thing has fallen so far down, I don’t even want to hoik it up, I want to pull it the rest of the way down, and point, and laugh.

And I LIKE her! I think she’s charming and have no wish to humiliate her. It’s just… the dress, that I want to do this to!

Carey has to be more forceful and confident to become the Swinton/BLanchette sorority sister. She has the idea, though. Everyone looks lovely; the lighting must be better at Tiffany & Co?
And thank you Fug ladies for a wonderful diversion during this awful week.

Whatever flight of fancy convinced Kate Hudson to wear Tiffany blue to a Tiffany gala (with a Tiffany blue background!) was misguided.

GOOP: I don’t completely hate the dress, but I feel it should be lined. I don’t really need to know where her belly button is.
Biel: Looks great. I think she would also look super-cute in ’50′s style pin curls. But that might just be me.
Hudson: If she inhales, that thing looks like it will fall off.
Mulligan: If I covered up her head I would have SWORN I was looking at a picture of Cate Blanchett (she’s not quite TOWERING enough to be SWINTON). She looks ok, but I feel like this is sort of wearing her.

Doutzen’s dress kind of looks like she’s trying to channel Marilyn Monroe’s dress in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, you know, the big Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend number.

The only thing worse than dressing in Tiffany blue for a Tiffany event is coming in costume as Marilyn Monroe in a song that namechecks Tiffany. A poorly fit costume at that.

I am just really impressed that Ms. Paltrow and Ms. Kroes were able to wear full length satin gowns without any wrinkles. Did they get dressed at the event? Was a there a steamer available for them somewhere to touch up between limo ride and photos? Has NASA invented an amazing new fabric that looks like wrinkle-free satin but actually is a solar panel? I think they need to share their secret with me and the many celebrities who end up looking like they slept in their dresses the night before.

I just saw the pearl cuff pieces that attach to a diamond art deco hand pendant that is attached to a ring that are featured in Tiffany’s window displays right now. I think I am having a fashion heart attack. They are sooooooo beautiful! I long for them so much it HURTS!

The color of GOOP’s dress is FABULOUS on her….if only it had been some OTHER gown.

I actually thought that Kate Hudson was Jane Seymor at first glance. Either that’s a less than flattering commentary on Kate or a good one for Jane….I can’t be sure.

Doutzen’s dress looks like Madonna’s from ” Material Girl” as done by my junior high BFF using our sheets.

I think this is the best GOOP has looked in while. I don’t love it, but I think she looks good.

Jessica would be perfect if she only had better lipstick.

I like the color of Doutzen’s dress but the style is awful.

Carey’s outfit is very awkward and unflattering, which is too bad because she is so cute.
