Awful and totally par for the course

Heh. I actually think that dress looks better on Gwyneth than it has any right to, and it would probably be a disaster on almost anyone else. So, I give the dress a fab, but I’m kind of making my church lady face at her make-up. Something is off with it, though I’m not sure what.

I don’t think Paltrow has enough body to support a dress like that. And anyone who did have enough body would almost certainly look terribly trashy in that dress (e.g., I am imagining JWow – who probably has one on order). It’s an unsolvable conundrum.

Things I never thought I would say: Anna Wintour for the win!

Seconded. A. Dubs is the only one who looks remotely decent in this collection.

Her dress is beautiful but I’m all worn out from women whose huge heads dwarf their emaciated bodies.

I like the dress, but an odd shoe choice, no?

How did Olivia Munn not notice the rather dramatic sock line issue with her tan? Did she put on athletic socks right after getting a spray tan or go jogging without sunscreen? Surely she had some makeup that could have softened that a bit.

right? I kept staring at her feet, not something I thought I’d be doing…

With sock tan that bad, you’d almost expect her to have a farmer tan too.

LamĂ© pants for the win! But I don’t understand Anna Wintour’s shoes with that dress and those accessories. I get that it would have been too matchy to go with silver, but daytime taupe peep-toes? Does she not have anything navy? Also, I wish Olivia Munn had gotten her hair done for this event. It would have made the styling, which was already a little heavy, look less so.

I scanned the comments entirely to find someone else who disliked Anna Wintour’s shoes. They are HIDEOUS with that dress. They look like they belong with cropped linen slacks and a printed blouse at a retirement home in Miami, not paired with a sparkly navy frock. Ugh. Kitten heels would have made the look.

Totally agree. AND she needs a pedicure.

She LOVES those shoes. She wears them all the time. They must be….comfy?

        • Josephine
          0

No kidding. But, really–for someone who is ostensibly the great guiding light of sartorial taste in America, she has terrible shoes an awfully large percentage of the time. I have never understood it, but I have now come to expect it.

That was my major fault with this whole slideshow, not Brooklyn Decker’s shorts, or Gwynneth’s kind of weird dress, but Anna Wintour’s granny shoes! Such a pretty dress, and such bad shoes.

Ummm….am I seeing things or are Olivia Munn’s feet a different color than her legs? 0.o

That dress is horrible, yet it looks good on Gwyneth. Not fair.

I can’t remember exactly when, or with what, but this is not the first time I have seen Anna Wintour and wondered what in the heck is up with her shoes. In fact, thinking back, it has probably been EVERY time I’ve seen her. For someone in her position, her shoe choices seem to completely fail.

    GOOP’s face definitely looks different.

I didn’t see the shoes (on Anna) before. Those look plastic and cheap. Neither of which are words I would expect to associate with her.

As a runner myself, I have that permanent sock tan that Olivia Munn does. It’s a badge of honour for us. :)

    • Esme

I’m a runner also, and this happens to me, but I just cover up the offending white parts with bronzer. One shouldn’t be honored for laziness.

I think I have figured out what’s going on with Gwyneth: Last couple of rounds of pictures, people have ragged on her for looking sort of sallow, or tired, or insufficiently made up, and it appears she has taken blush and eyeliner in hand and overcompensated.

…and, huh, I actually don’t mind that dress on her. Not over fond of the shoes, though. Not at all.

    • Elaine
      0

agreed, my problem with gwyneth’s outfit were the shoes! and i wish the very top section of fabric was the same width as the section at her bust. but i like that dress far more than that dress has a right to be liked.

i also love the gold lame pants, only because she (wisely) paired it with a black top and awesome black blazer.

if i had the sort of sartorial influence that anna wintour has, my shoe collection would be insanely amazing…. but i always feel like her shoes are the one thing about her that show her age.

GOOP would be find without the Boob-muda triangle. Chanel shows how cut outs should work, if one must do cut-outs. Brooklyn Decker (and that would be who?) is the spitting image of Elizabeth Montgomery on Bewitched. Olivia should go up a size. And Anna can go ahead and wear her shower scuffs, but if so, she must attend to her pedicure.

    • Fiona

La Wintour thinks manis/pedis are tacky, and, those shoes are custom Manolos and she has about eleventy million pairs.

      God, I love her.

I feel like I’m the only one who notices how sad Gwynnie’s boobs look in that dress. Not saggy, exactly. Just depressed. I am NOT a fan of that dress.

Is Olivia Munn doing a forward lunge? I’m confused by how she is standing.

i think i could snap anna wintour in half like a twig.

Just this morning, I was trying to persuade my daughter to use the bottom portion of the jeans she was cutting off as arm warmers. And look: that’s exactly what GOOP did with the cut-outs on her dress and her bracelet. Reduce Reuse Recycle.

I just realized the hem on Olivia Munn’s dress is creating an optical illusion that she is lunging forward or crouching to make herself look shorter. And I feel like I’ve fallen for this before with this stupid asymmetrical hems and I therefore hate them.

I think Channel Inman is adorable. That dress fits her, covers up the important bits and it’s shiney!

They all look tired, boring, not that good except for Anna Wintour who looks fabulous. She is 60 and the rest of them thar gals are 30 average? Why can’t they look at her, or just dress young. Is there an edict that one has to wear the designer to his party? Guess so.
Goop needs to take it down a notch or everyone is going to be sick of her.

    • Ms Poopy Von Pants
      0

Agreed. Why does she always feel the need to have cut out dresses? Maybe she’s thinking “I’m not going to work out 4 hours a day for nothing.” Cut outs will never not remind me of Fredricks of Hollywood. And yes, her boobs look very sad indeed.

And the pattern in the back is giving the optical illusion of her having a pointy elf left ear. The GOOPy expression isn’t helping.

I kind of like Leigh’s dress. I wish it fit her better….but with her hair it is very Hollywood version of a spy like.

Anna Wintour is blessed with a great head of hair. Sometimes I think the cut edges on becoming a caricature, but it’s Just Great Hair. And her dress is pretty. But maybe she could indulge in a plate of spaghetti? Just to make me feel better about myself?

    • Claire1
      0

      I don’t think that’s her real hair.
I know there’s a visible part…. but trust me… there are wigs out there that you’d actually have to pull off to know they’re wigs.

To paraphrase Jessica (in what has become my new catch-all phrase of loathing), “Gwyneth. I just can’t with her. Any. More.” That goes for the Chelse Handler rap, as well: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/diaz-paltrow-rap-chelsea-handler-article-1.1182619

    It’s LUDICROUS. Seriously.

Anna Wintour needs no clutch. I can understand her driver and doormen and she doesn’t pay for anything that she eats or drinks (not that she’d eat or drink much anyway) but where does she keep her house keys?

Isn’t that a quote from Patsy in AbFab for the Wintour caption? Just happened to watch that episode again a few days ago. I’ve always found Anna Wintour’s choice of outfits to be curiously bourgeois, even twee, rather than stylish. Maybe Anna’s shoes are her version of Grace’s black orthotic-looking sandals? It doesn’t get any easier as you get older, you know!

    • Jessica

Yup. That’s why I also said you should never go with her to Morocco.

I the makeup looks quite harsh on GP…and the dress is an odd length…to say nothing of the white shoes…black dress with white shoes is not a combo I generally like
