Fugs and Fabs: London Fashion Week

We’re tired enough just from being in New York for nine days; I cannot IMAGINE how the people handle it who do New York AND London and the other two besides. Maybe that’s why Alexa Chung is wearing this: exhaustion. She’s blinded by fatigue. It’s the only explanation short of blackmail.

I don’t know half the folks in these photos…Perhaps I need a British edition of Who’s Who.

I was thinking the same thing. Lady Grantham looks so fabulous and beautiful and chic. I love her. The rest not so much. Except Alexa; I like a girl who just wears what she likes and doesn’t look like a trollop…

What happened to Kate Nash? She used to have such beautiful hair.

I have a few thoughts that need breaking down into list form:

    1) I need that brown jacket Olivia Palermo is wearing in her third picture. And I still cling to the hope that boot-cut will come back into fashion so I’m not going to hate on the trousers.

    2) I have always though Alexa Chung’s style is hideous and overrated, and yet this is actually the least offensive thing I think she has ever worn. I mean, yes, they are bloomers being worn as shorts but I feel there’s an improvement here.

    3) Could someone please explain the grey-hair on young celebs trend, please? I still don’t understand. Also Kelly Osbourne can be adorable when she’s not trying so hard with the groucho-glasses.

    4) Mad props to Elizabeth McGovern for those killer red shoes. I like to think secret-badass Cora would wear them, should she ever have the option.

Me too!!! Except, I don’t like the visible hem line – but other than that, it fits her, it suits her, nice colour, good shoes, I like the shape of the pants and the top, and her hair looks great – what’s not to like?

I agree, with the exception of the shoes, which seem to belong to another decade.

I think she looks great–except the shoes. They don’t fit the outfit.

And me, too. There’s nothing wrong with her pants.

oh wait, I rescind the “good shoes” part of my comment. I thought she was wearing beige with black pointed cap toes. (Don’t know where I saw those lol!) These are awful. I stand by the rest of my comment. :)

Don’t despair, Heather. Olivia Palermo had the good sense to be born to wealthy parents.

That is the best Alexa Chung has looked in years. For the first time ever, I saw her face first, then her clothes, and thought, “huh. she’s pretty.” If that’s what sick-day chic does for her, bring on the ratty sweatshirts and sleep shorts.

Anyone else coveting Lady Grantham’s shoes?

I don’t think I will ever ‘get’ Alexa Chung…why did she ever become a ‘thing’, anyway? And how did she become a fashion icon by wearing things that I either wear to bed or to clean my apartment in?

The only reason I can think of is her face.

Rebecca, I may be wrong but I think it was A. Dubs who decided that Alexa Chung was a “thing”. But for the life of me I don’t get why. She invariably shows up places wearing something that looks like she found it in the bottom of the bin at a rummage sale. And is it just me or does that picture of Kelly Osborne make her look like Lovelace the penguin from “Happy Feet”?
I think people invite Olivia Palermo places because they still feel residual sympathy from the time when Tinsley Mortimer and the other NY society princesses were mean-girling her.

Is it wrong that I think Alexa Chung’s sweatshirt thingy is totally cute? I mean, I’d probably wear it with some jeans to the grocery store (even though it probably cost more than my food budget for the year), and not with those awful shorts to a fashion show, but still: cute.

ye me too! totally my weekend-no where special-mall trip look with some jeans and flats on
I also do not get the Olivia Palermo thing. Why is she everywhere? Why does one person own so many shorts? So many questions…
Love Elizabeth Mcgovern’s shoes and the last slide look was just understated perfection in my book.

I have an LC – Lauren Conrad! sweater almost exactly like Alexa’s there, same color, ruffle, only it’s a v-neck sweater. I love that thing, but hardly ever wear it because it doesn’t look right with anything I wear it with. Clearly, because I have never tried it with satin tap pants.

Someone tell me where I can window shop Olivia Palermo’s jacket in thumb 12. She looks great there, maybe minus the belt.

Why are Noomi Rapace’s toenails just filthy?!

Love the ensemble in the last slide. Love Lady Grantham’s red shoes. And yeah, Kelly O. looks ridiculous in those glasses but she obviously knows it. I really love how goofy she’s being at both NY and London Fashion Weeks. I love that she’s just having fun.

Is it just the awful grey colour or does Alexa Chung have the flu? She looks unwell.

Simple test: Standing up straight in front of a mirror, answer this question: is the hem of my sleeves below the hem of my garment? If yes: put on pants.

Also, there needs to be a Downton prequel so that we can find out if Cora was indeed a secret badass.

I’m pretty sure Pixie Lott is wearing cat ears…

THANK YOU, I’m so thrilled someone else noticed that! I mean granted, when people leave the house without pants, it’s hard to notice much else, but if there is anything that can compete with pantslessness it’s cat ears, right? And did she think that the cat ears would compete with her pants, or the other way around?

You need to check out OP’s blog — she just posts photos of herself, lists all the brands she’s wearing, and then wraps up with “Have a great day!” It’s pretty amazing.

NOoooo Kate Nash I love you why? Why? This is bad. Bad, K.Nash. Bad.

Palermo’s second outfit is a mess. The elements are fine, even good (the pants and shoes) individually, but altogether too much. They are mad at each other.

I agree about Olivia Palermo. I don’t want to like looking at her, but she embodies preppy chic, and she’s always smiling, and she’s pretty rather than hard-edged and fashiony. Plus, I always want her hair. However the outfit with the flared pants is not okay on any level.

Tali Lennox definitely looks cute, minus the superfluous hat.

I want Olivia Palermo’s shoes (though I suspect I would not be able to walk in them as well as she does) and her lovely tweed jacket.

Kelly Brook should just put the girls away, but then no-one would recognise her.

Wait, wait wait – you DON’T hate the top Palermo is wearing in the second shot of her? She looks like she was in a Michael’s explosion and random sheets of craft paper are stuck to her like shrapnel.

tali lennox looks awesome..and I’m so glad to see a lot of people jumping on the Andy Murray bandwagon..i was crying when he lost in the Wimbledon..and crying even harder when he won the US Open (and I’m a hardcore Nadal fan)

p.s. i covet OP’s 3rd look, as soon as we can get the pants hemmed..but methinks i might need her body (and her face!) to look as awesome as that!

Why is one of the ladies swathed in the pink tulle that wraps a gift basket of assorted cheeses?

Alexa Chung has done a lot of model work and then presented on TV here in the UK for quite a few years now. She’s so thin, but actually really stunning and has pulled off a lot of looks, but this is just way too casual.
