Fugs and Fabs: Florence Welch

Because sometimes we just need to check in on her, make sure her machine is running, look for an excuse to discuss capes, etc.

Oh man. That last photo, her eggplant nails just really knock the whole thing out of the park. Wow.

  2. Bella

I like the first and last dresses, but not that ugly red pantsuit.

  3. Kate

The comments on the first dress reminded me of Kate & Leopold – a movie I haven’t thought about for at least a decade.

I think she kind of works the milkmaid braids. That, or her sorceress powers are tricking me into liking them.

  4. Mouse

    Girlfriend loves her concert caftans.

    • HelenBackAgain

And I love her in them! The sorceress look REALLY works, for her.

  5. Art Eclectic

Make fun of me all you want, but I’d wear that first dress in a heartbeat and rock the hell out of it. Bring Darcy Bingley on.

  6. Jen S 2.0

MAN, she loves an awkward-length outfit. A lot. This slideshow alone was 2 out of 3.

  7. OrangeClouds

I want the clutch in picture number 1. That is all.

  8. Lizzy

Love the last dress – the color is amazing.
Your storyline sounds like “Lost In Austen”, except focusing on Lizzie Bennet’s journey instead of Amanda Price’s (time traveler from present day).

    •  Amy

Yeah I thought Lost in Austen + The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and it sounds like my new favorite rom com ever. PLEASE GFY. Please, for the people, write this after you’ve finished up English Countryside Weekend Murder Mystery/Time Travel/Nazis/etc.

  9. hb

correction, the first dress is actually hideous

  10. Sandra

But if the FugGirls wrote it, it wouldn’t be a crappy time-travel rom com! It would be a witty, snarky, the-more-things-change-the-more-they-stay-the-same rom com. And I would read the hell out of it. And recommend it to all my friends. Pleeeeeaaasse?

Or it you guys are too busy, commission a Ghost Writer Laureate for FugNation.

Re: First Austen-like outfit – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_Austen – Lost in Austen = very similar to your musings!

  12.  Anna

That last pic, she looks like Melisandre from GoT.

  13. ChristieLea

I’m quite sure Garage Clothing Company was selling that first dress back in 1998.

  14. Bonnie Klein

While I hate the first dress in theory, I think it looks beautiful on her. I don’t get it, but there you go.

  15. JNadreau

I love the first dress – I think it’s the best she’s ever looked. HATE the pantsuit. And the cape-dress – fab! Makes me think of Endora from “Bewitched”.

  16. holly

the pants… and the jacket… and the blouse… and the shoes…. NO

  17. HelenBackAgain

Did everyone but me already know that Florence is only 26? I read “Flo and Blake Lively are bosom buddies,” and thought, isn’t Blake a little young to be such good friends with Florence Welch? But no, not at all, they’re peers.

It isn’t that Welch looks older than she is, either, on closer examination (done because I wondered why I’d thought so) she doesn’t, at all. I think it’s just her natural air of authority! Which she really plays up with those dramatic stage outfits. I am in love with this thing in Slide 3 – perfect on her. I don’t think anyone else could wear it, but Welch is tremendous in it.

You know how we’d honestly be sad if Tilda Swinton showed up in some perfectly trendy little number looking all girly and sexy…
That’s how I feel about Florence. I love her clothing choices and they make me cheer. ( I even love the red suit with cheetah fur loafers. ) I never want her to change and be Mall ready normal. they aren’t kitsh, or redundant or too smug or too throwback….. they are good!

She’s just so boring to me, no matter what she puts on her body, I just go “Huh. Oh, OK, I guess.”
