Hat iron! LOL!
Nicole’s dress looks like a My Fair Lady at Ascot tribute. (Come on Dover, move yer bloomin’ bleep!)
Thought the exact same thing. She looks lovely, though.
You mean loverly.
She looks amazing. I can’t believe the Fug Girls think it’s hilarious.
I specifically came to the comments section to comment that this looked like an homage to My Fair Lady, but linda beat me to it.
You’d be correct. It was a modern take on My Fair Lady, designed by L’Wren Scott.
I was assuming that was on purpose and I love her for the full-on Eliza Doolittle tribute.
That’s exactly what it is. L’Wren Scott designed it for Nicole and that is what they were going for.
Wow, it’s a pretty lame tribute. As Heather said, it’s an “uninspired” wedding frock; add a big checkered bow and an oversized hat and voila? So obviously a nod toward the Ascot scene, but a painfully lazy one; all around, NOT inspired, not at all.
Yes, she should have left the Audrey tribute at home. She’s not fresh-faced enough to hide all of her hair under a hat anyway. I can’t stop looking at her puffy lips and frozen eyes.
Oh my . . . as pretty as Nicole Kidman may be why invite comparisons to one’s self and in the absolutely incomparable Audrey Hepburn ?? Why ? Anyone and everyone is inevitably doomed to fall dismally short…
I was just thinking that Kidman looked like a tribute to My Fair Lady! Actually this whole event is very Ascot with all of the black and white.
That was my take on it as well.
It’s Derby Day which is traditionally black and white in terms of dress.
Derby Day colours are traditionally black and white – Melbourne Cup is about colour and Oaks Day is pink….
just imparting some local knowledge for you
Yep, I completely agree. She posted a picture on her facebook and I didn’t read the caption but I thought it was a Halloween costume and she was going as my fair lady…ha! I think it’s a superbly fun idea for such an event though.
La Kidman’s dress reminds me of Audrey Hepburn’s from My Fair Lady.
this makes me love it more.
Why are Australians so fun? Kidman looks great. I don’t suppose Naomi Watts was there? too much to hope for?
Nicole Kidman’s outfit is clearly an homage to the outfit worn by Audrey Hepburn/Liza Doolittle to Ascot in My Fair Lady (the movie). http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2608764928/tt0058385
“like a tadpole crashed into her skull” is one of the funniest things I’ve read lately!
it was kind of you to call it a tadpole… my first thought was “is that a … sperm?”
what that says about me, i don’t necessarily know. but i do know that it only says bad things about the hat.
I’m with you on sperm!
LOVE Nicole’s My Fair Lady tribute. I also love Annaleise there at the end. If you’re going to go to one of those things, you may as well go all out, right? Everyone else looked pretty forgettable to me.
Did the dress code specify black-and-white or was there an Aussie Mind-Meld? Actually, with the possible exception of NK, these ladies all look kind of wacktackular in an unintentionally hilarious way. But everybody seems to be having a good time, which is the main thing.
It’s a very strict black and white, in fact some of the ladies in all black are flaunting the rules!
The reason the chick in the middle won the Fashions on the Field contest is that she has big boobs and a great hat, and the one on the right has a great hat but boobs appropriately sized for her tiny body.
I know it is a My Fair Lady tribute, but Nicole looks like the older sister of Rose Dewitt Bukater, I’m just sayin.
Why why why would they have what is apparently a black-and-white theme for an event that would have been so much more fabulous with some COLOR???
Today is Melbourne Cup Day, the biggest event on the spring racing calendar. Check back for colour.
It is a Spring Racing Carnival and there are traditions. Lots of colour on Melbourne Cup and also Oaks Day. Derby Day is strictly black and white.
Derby Day is black and white, Melbourne Cup is colour (with the yellow rose as the official flower), Oakes Day is ladies day with the pink flower and more feminine, flowy dresses and Stakes Day is about family.
Yoohoo Fug Heather! Can you fake your own death so we can have pictures of Fug Jessica in that fascinator (actually, can you guilt her into wearing the whole outfit?)? K, Thanks.
Photo number 2: the chick on the right has a dream catcher for a bodice. But I don’t think it’s going to catch her any dreams. Comments please.
photo #2: heidi, the admiral of fug – her hat would have been awesome if those black dots had been googly eyes instead.
A few are quite beautiful, but for the most part, the rest make me want to use the word “noggin” in a disparaging manner.
If you peruse the pics, look closely at the one with the heading “Lisa Wellings, Emma Gooding, and Elise Crews”… all the ladies are wearing virtually undetectable sheer skintone hosiery… classy!
That last slide is da bomb!!! I am so happy that Danielle Spenser looks happy – Russell Crowe must have been such a boor. Also, imagine getting married to the GLADIATOR, and then having that big hairy thing snoring next to you!
I love Nicole. I just love her. I also love houndstooth. I just bought a houndstooth scarf so now Im praying for snow so I can wear it.
I love long slideshows and silly hats for leaving me with a post-it on my desk that simply says, “ashley hart sperm.”
That first Sass & Bide photo features the second molar-shaped bodice we have seen today … this is not a “toothsome” trend! (nyuk, nyuk)
I think it’s also covered in sea shells. Oh dear.
And with this slide-show I have discovered my new path in life: I am starting a band, just so I can name it “Forgotten Minogue.” Then I’m making t-shirts. I have no idea what kind of music we’ll play, because really the t-shirts will be enough.
Our first album will be called “poorly maintained teeth,” and will be followed by an experimental rock opera called “cranial shark fin.” Bai Ling will sing backup…it’s all falling into place. Skants. Somehow there must be skants.
Gotta love those wacky Antipodeans! And I am totally swiping that Natalie person’s surname: Bassingthwaighrterte! So cool. Almost as good as “Vogue” for a first name.
You know that’s not actually her surname though, right?
Oh Nicole! That is glorious!
I was actually at this event (with the commoners) – most people stuck with the black and white dress code (with a few attention seekers in colour). But I tell you, it was mad. I don’t know if other countries do this, but Australians spend two hours plus getting ready for the races, go to the races and then get *drunk* so that by the end of the day the shoes are off, you’re drinking straight out of the bottle and you dropped your phone somewhere. It would be glorious if that’s how La Kidman’s day turned out. A great time though. Wacky Antipodeans indeed.
It’s all true. We spend MONTHS planning the perfect outfit. Last year I had a hat made to go with my (Sass and Bide) dress and it was fabulous because I could just take calls at work and be all “oh, sorry, I’m on the phone with my MILLINER” but then really all I cared about was getting sloshed in the member’s area.
Hat iron on slide 5…so funny. Tadpole crashing into skull on slide 15…even funnier!
Remember in “Spinal Tap”, where Ian said someone “dresses like an Australian’s nightmare”?
This is what he was talking about.
Bella Ferraro isn’t an X-Factor winner, just in the top 12 of the current season.
Gah. Why is it that all these upper crust sporting events bring out the WORST fashion?
Bad homage to Audrey. I guess when you play Grace Kelly, you start thinking you can run the gamut of icons.
The Sass & Bide women always wear the UGLIEST clothes. Everywhere. I have never seen them in something flattering, EVER.
FYI Jesinta Campbell wore a pink turban to the Melbourne Cup! http://www.popsugar.com.au/Jesinta-Campbell-Pink-Turban-Pictures-2012-Melbourne-Cup-25768337
You should hate Vogue Williams’ houndstooth crop top more. Even for a crop top it’s poorly cut.
I’m Australian and I don’t recognise about half these people. I guess that’s why they attend.
I can’t wait to read your take on the Melbourne cup fashions from today. You girls were the first thing I thought of when I heard Mischa Barton was attending!
I THOUGHT I saw her face amongst the ‘field frocks’ gallery I was going through!!
thanks fug ladies! As a Melbourne lass who sadly had to work on the cup public holiday I have been looking forward to your fugging of our weirdly colour coded traditions to cheer me up! Also I have no clue who most of those people are. Please tell me you have some Brynne Edelsten race day fuggery coming our way?
Lara Bingle….looking for a Job at whiteladyfunerals.com.au
I love the outfits on Pics #8 & #19! LOVE!
Love Nicole– and the My Fair Lady homage. Perfect! There’s so much black and white going in here, though… was that part of the dress code? I wish there was a little more color.
very good news, your are good boy!
