Fug or Fab the Cover: Anne Hathaway

fug-or-fab

What a lovely model! She’s so festive and pretty-looking, right? Perfect for the holidays! I just want to curl up with a hot toddy and a copy of the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog and flip through it, looking for some seductive country tweeds to wear for my effortless day — wait, what’s that? This isn’t some random pretty model, and this isn’t the December issue? Well. That changes things.

(Twiigs appears to be jacked up right now, so if the poll isn’t appearing to you, well, just discuss in the comments! Whee!)

eva mendes and anne hathaway have merged (and shaved some curves off) to achieve this cover.

OK, I am not insane. I totally thought that was Eva Mendes too! How is that possible? They look NOTHING alike!

I guess I’m not as original as I’d like to believe, because the first thing I thought was Eva Mendez.

And we know that they are not interchangeable, so why did they Photoshop her like this? ‘Hey, we couldn’t get Eva, so we made do.”

For some reason Anne looks a lot like Eva Mendes in this picture. That’s not a bad thing, per se, it’s just odd.

“Sitting Pretty. How to stop back pain.” I think the cover picture of the Anne Hathaway/Eva Mendes morph model is illustrating the “before” picture for that article.

  14. Jen

At first glance, I thought she was Cindy Crawford (obviously devoid of the beauty mark). I think it’s a beautiful cover, it just doesn’t look like A-Hath.

Anne certaibly was too trusting if she allowed this ‘shopping. Pointy chin, pointy corners of her mouth, pointy ears, and most of all, pointy, frowny, caterpillar eyebrows. All those diagonal lines make her look mean and cranky, even when smiling.

I see my Eva Mendes thoughts were most unoriginal.

    “I’m too trusting”

OK, does no one else think it’s hysterical that she’s slumped down, sitting sideways, and otherwise looking a bit uncomfortable on a cover that says, “Sitting Pretty: How to stop back pain”?

  22. M.Amanda

It’s beautiful, but on first glimpse I would have sworn that was Eva Mendes. Did Anne get a tan?

  23. Charlie

If I hadn’t seen an article featuring the photos from the inside spread on dailymail.co.uk, I wouldn’t have done a double take passing the newspaper stand yesterday whilst trying to figure out why Eva Mendes would be on the cover of Vogue when Anne Hathaway is trapped within its binds.

I initially loved the cover despite the fact it’s basically Mendes (and I mostly still do), but now it’s screaming December issue to me. THANKS. Though the pics inside more than make up for this fact in my opinion – some great snaps in there.

Plus I just love Hathaway too much to let it sway my emotions fully.

  24. Gigi

My poll isn’t displaying, so I can’t decide what options are at my disposal, but–eyebrows? check! wide mouth? check!–that looks just like Anne Hathaway to me. (Of course, I wouldn’t know Eva Mendes if she bit me in the ass–which, as far as I know, she’s entirely capable of doing.)

And, yes, it could definitely be a Christmas cover, but it’s also a great Autumn-colors cover, too.

    I think she looks lovely.

  29. Stefanie

I was coming here to say Anne looks beautiful but after reading all the comments I cant seem to find her on the cover anymore. All I can see is Eva. Boo.

I thought Teri Hatcher…she does look great though. I love RED.

  31. Anonymous

You know, now that I actually read the cover, absolutely none of it makes sense. “Natural Beauty that Delivers” was the first thing I saw on an overly made-up/overdone/photoshopped cover model. “Fall Romance” when this cover screams Christmas to me. “Effortless Day Dressing” and the cover model is in a huge ballgown? “Seductive Tweeds” ditto. “Accessible Eco Style” yah, pretty sure that stain ball gown wasn’t grown in a field. And it is not what I would call “accessible.” Anne Hathaway’s name is flanked by “Breath of Fresh Air” and “I’m Too Trusting” which to me sound like sort of contradictory concepts. Then there is “Salt” and “Orphan” which both sort of make me go, “HUH?” If you’re going to be a fashion magazine, stick to what you know. Not saying EVERY article has to pertain to the cover, but maybe shooting for some sort of theme – or at least two complimentary concepts – wouldn’t make the whole thing seem so random.

  32. will-smith-but-not-that-guy
    0

Ok, yeah, it’s easy to blast Annie for being dull here. But it’s still a gorgeous, if very staid, cover. So? So? CAN YOU PEOPLE LOOK THIS GOOD, HUH? HUH? CAN YOU?

  33. amy
    0

Yes, thank you! I totally thought it was Eva Mendes as well. And the article “Sitting Pretty How to Stop Back Pain” made me laugh, considering how Anne is sitting.

  42. Jill
    0

For the 50th time, it looks like Eva Mendes. I think it’s the eyebrows and the way they airbrushed her jawline. It does look holidayish and plain. But still pretty.

  43. Cat
    0

I want to love this cover, because I love the giant red dress and the holiday feel. However, Anne Hathaway has apparently become Eva Mendes, at least when I look at this straight on. I only see Anne when I tilt my head. I don’t know if it’s the lighting or the pose or the eyebrows or what, but wow, I never thought I would mistake AH for EM.

  44. Lisa

I looked at it and saw Anne Hathaway, and then I went, “Wait, no, that’s Maria Menounos!”

    Whoever it is, it’s gorgeous.

When I saw this picture yesterday on another site, I thought “How on earth is that Anne Hathaway and how did they make her look exactly like Eva Mendes?” And, then I waited for GFY to point it out… and they didn’t. But, you all did and I’m glad I’m not alone!

  46. gosiak

I saw it yesterday and here’s what I thought:
    “Oh how pretty!
    Wait, December issue already?
    Oh.”

I would love it as a holiday issue’s cover, that’s for sure.

  47. Cheryl

I am having a serious problem with the phrase ‘seductive country tweeds.’ It just doesn’t make any sense. For one thing, I thought tweed died with my grandmother.

  48. TonyG
    0

Never thought of Ann Hathaway as gorgeous. Have to rethink that. I really think this is great in every way. The pose. That generous smile. The hair. The deep, deep red color. The drama of the dress. The simplicity of the jewelry. A++

  49. Laurie
    0

Anyone’s head, tilted that far to one side, would render them barely recognizable. Add to that how far her head is turned away from the camera, and there’s no way she’d be recognizable even to her own mother, and even without Photoshopping.

Plus hiking her right shoulder and arm up so high makes her neck disappear even though we can see the whole left side of it. And I would think Tyra and Leon and the crew would have a blast complaining about how this pose doesn’t show off the dress at all. How does one photo end up being NOT about the model, her face, OR the dress?

  50. rachel

ditto – Ava Mendes – must be the lips and TAN

  51. KarenG

As with so many of you, my first thought was how pretty Eva Mendes looked in that photo. Knowing it’s Anne Hathaway doesn’t make it any less lovely. It’s a beautiful cover. But still, it so looks like Eva Mendes.

I shouldn’t even vote in polls regarding Anne Hathaway, I hate her so much. She so marginally talented, I loathe her Liza-Minelli-ish outsized face AND her aura of smug self-satisfaction so much that I could never judge her look impartially. Still, she does look like Eva Mendez on this cover, which is a slight improvement (Mendez being a bit less offensive). Bleh. Why does AH keep getting jobs and fashion magazine covers? She’s worse than Katherine Heigl and Claire Daines COMBINED.

  54. Laurie
    0

I almost forgot… did some stylist actually get PAID for making Anne’s hair look like it’s Saturday morning and she just threw it in a rubber band because she overslept and almost missed the farmers’ market?

Oh, and I do agree with the comment about the uber-pointy-ness of this photo. Ick and unfriendly.

  55. Laurie
    0

Yes, this cover definitely screams out “Christmas Issue”, based on the red, white, gold, and the ball gown.

And Will-Who?: nobody is blaming Anne, they’re blaming the stylist(s) and the photographer. A pretty picture that renders the subject unrecognizable isn’t a good photo, unless that’s what you’re going for. And when it’s someone famous, why would you want them to look like someone else unless it was one of those faux-Marilyn-remake-type spreads that are so common lately.

  56. E

She’s so pretty. And I think it does look like her – you just have to tilt your head.

  58. jennaratrix

This is going to sound weird, but trust me: it’s just the angle of her head. Tilt YOUR head to the left while looking at her face, and it totally looks like Anne Hathaway again. Seriously, try it.

Anne Hathaway is gorgeous, poised, always nails it on the red carpet…oh, yeah, and she’s famous for being really talented too! Heard she was going to be doing the next Vogue issue and was REALLY looking forward to it, but after seeing this cover, I’m not so sure. Glad to hear from WhiteRabbit 11 that she looks divine inside the mag. She is so darn lovely; why oh why would they want to make her not look like her? I think Eva Mendez is attractive, but there was no reason for the stylist to do an Eva on Anne’s eyebrows! Fab Anne; fug the stylist!

  74. anneblushes

hahaha, it’s anne hathendez! or… eva mendaway! yikes. i mean. they made her look TAN (ew) and a little too naughty (totally not a.h.) and all crumply-looking. oh, and then there’s the elderly hair…. hmm. oops. better luck next time, vogue. and you too, cover girl, whoever you are.

  75. Bambi Anne Dear
    0

I really wish you had a comments link for all the pics. I don’t wish to comment about AH’s cover but for CRYING OUT LOUD! Two of the all time WORST looks on the entire site just before this. M.I.A and Bridget Marquardt. Bad as M.I.A looked I’m assuming she was making some sort of statement but Bridget? So pretty. Possibly plastic but pretty. In such a horrendous mess of frou frou and sequin crossed straps and God knows what else.
Perhaps she might like to know that here in Sydney, there’s a racehorse named after her. Not Bridget, Marquardt. She is a pretty horse and a pretty good horse too. Chestnut I think.

  76. Soapstef

Anneblushes – I’m going with Anne Mendaway! Lol. The elderly hair is the worst thing about it to me. Her tan is also just way over the top unless this is a story about Dancing With The Stars.
