I can not tell you how freaking relieved I was to hear that Carey Mulligan got the role of Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby, and not Blake Lively. No offense to Blake, but Carey is PERFECT for that part, I think.
And my excitement about this news might be coloring my take on what she wore the other night:
On one hand, I think this is really groovy. On the other hand, I suspect it might be really groovy for an older person. Carey is so lovely, but she has a tendency to dress like she’s about twenty years older than she actually is — a habit I wish someone would nip in the bud for her. For example, this outfit will be AMAZING on her when she’s Cate Blanchett (somewhere, Cate Blanchett just crabbed that she is still, and always will be, Cate Motherfreaking Blanchett), but right now, I worry that it’s just a little….creaky.
