Fug the Show: The Carrie Diaries, episode 12

In which Dorrit washes all that stuff off her pretty face, two out of three Bradshaws have sex, the most interesting character (Walt) gets sidelined with only one episode to go (sigh), and Larissa gets about three lines before all the requisite jokes behind her back about what a coke fiend she is.

OMG – Nina Katz! Everyone knows Nina Katz!

The actress who plays Deb might be everywhere, but how on earth can it not be brought up that she was in Sex and the City? :)

      I didn’t watch it, really.

Lol, this could be Mrs Katz, Nina Katz’s mother. Or Nina Katz’s older sister. Or Nina Katz who later had an awesome face lift and a name change. Seriously the new show doesn’t consider SATC’s original fans at all do they? There are so many actors out there!

OK, i’m not from the US, so I have to ask a question about that first picture. Did ANYONE’S house look that nice in the 80s?? I know you’ve talked about (the lack of) historical accuracy in this show before, but COME ON!! I would be psyched if I could get my house to look like that now! And I’m a grown-up!

I really like this show but I wish it wasn’t so afraid to just go for it. I would love for them to go full on 80s craziness with the fashion, hair and makeup as you often point out here. The styling of the extras are always spot on (and hilarious) and the stars seem far too modern. And they need to decide what Dorrit is and go with it. Angry rebellious punk rocker? Fine, just go with that all the way and make her less wishy washy.

Carrie is totally adorable and likable, but why are both the boys she has dated (Sebastian and that super-rich guy) as confident and together at their age? Granted it’s been a long time, but I remember them being pimply, jealous, uncertain and clingy at that age, but maybe those were the ones that were in my high school.

Carrie would have given a rat’s behind about We Are the World. She would have been a Band Aid girl all the way. Come on.

      Oops – wouldn’t have given a rat’s behind.

Well, to be fair, it was Mouse and not Carrie.

I remember being all “Geldof wants to feed the world while the US just wants to tell everyone they are the world.” I was very much the anglophile back in the day. (Still think the difference is telling though.)

I definitely feel like Walt’s story is the most interesting and they should do more with him. Oh well!

I still play the Genus Edition, but I suck at the pink questions because they’re all from the early 80′s and prior. I only get them right if they’re about ‘The Wizard of Oz’ or ‘Gone With the Wind.’

Heh, me too. Though I’m rubbish at all the pink questions in general. And you have to really think about some of the geography questions in case the answer is ‘ussr’ or ‘yugoslavia’! The modern questions seem too easy.

Also Do They Know It’s Christmas? is a classic Christmas song that I still play to death every year despite the fact they release a new ‘anniversary’ cover every 5 years or so with pop stars du jour. The original is the best!

I’m already excited for next week because of the fallout that’s to come from the quartet with Maggie not accepting Walt. Based on the preview for it I’m guessing Carrie ‘breaks up’ with Mags over it (i.e. – ‘the worst possible thing’ that she says in it) and I’m curious if Mags will, like one of the characters in the book she’s composited from (Lali, who was the police chief’s daughter in the series while Maggie was just Walt’s girlfriend) Sleep with Sebastian. Granted, circumstances are different but that would definitely make for one hell of a plot twist. Stay strong Walt!
