Fug or Fine: Saoirse Ronan

I find this dress more inscrutable than the pronunciation of her first name (which I mastered during the Atonement Oscar run, but it took a while).

I would react, but alas there is no photo.

  2. Edith

I am tempted to click the second option, but I can’t help but feel there’s supposed to be a photo here….

    The gallery.

Also, when I opened this link from Feedly, I got a warning from Firefox saying this site had badware or something? Really weird.

    • Melissa

Thanks! Yeah that happened when I came to the site earlier using Safari too. Weird… Anyway, wow Saoirse is growing up to be quite gorgeous, regardless of the iffy dress!

I keep getting a Malware warning, as well…am running Chrome.

  4. Albeli

    Definitely inscrutable.

    I’m a bit confused…

Is the devil’s horn what’s happening at her hip or the slight separation of the material at her shoulder between the back and the front of the dress?

I don’t mind the latter; the former is indeed odd.

Sorry guys — dumb technical problems today… Pics are up.

(Psst: First name misspelled on slides. Can’t imagine how that happened with such a simple moniker!)

just FYI, the poll for this article is just a code. i know you have been having issues with the poll codes and malware, and you girls are awesome for doing Fug Madness. This time of the year almost might be better then Christmas.

      • Jessica

Yes, we are having some issues with polls! Please be patient and while you are waiting, you can just weigh in here in the comments!

Why aren’t women wearing lip color anymore? So many of these photos I look at and think, “If only she had lips attached to her face, she would look lovely.” The choices aren’t either blood red or nude, ladies. You have options.

How are you guys commenting with no photo? Or is it my computer that’s not letting me see? arg!

Regardless of the shenanigans going on with the dress, her headsuit looks pretty dang good.

    • Vandalfan

Goodness but I disagree! Nice color, but hand her a comb for all that is holy.

I am not a big fan of platform heels anymore, but those look cute to me. I think the color and shape of the dress are great, but the side thing is weird. Love the color on her so much I am going to overlook that!

She looks a little like Diane Kruger in the first photo. The immortal D could probably get away with this. She and Cate Blanchett are the only actresses I know who can turn insrutable into awesomeness. Nice try though S…

Fab! Striking and unusual, to go with Saoirse’s striking, unusual face. I love it.

Not sure it’d work on anyone else, but on Ronan, total fab.

The color of that dress is so stunning and beautiful and the cut is interesting and flattering. And she’s wearing black shoes that are not clodhoppers and not beige pumps, which is unusual and perfect with this dress. But her hair looks ratty, like she just wandered in after a day at the beach and didn’t have time to do anything with it, even comb it.

I learned to pronounce Saoirse when my brother announced in his early twenties that this was what he intended to name any future daughter of his. That was about 10 years ago and he is still child (and wife) free. I think God is trying to tell him something.

As for the dress – love the color, the execution, not so much.

I adore the color, just wish it were even a tiny bit fitted. And didn’t have such noncommittal horns.( If your dress has horns, go BIG (but that would be a different look entirely).) I do wish she’d brushed her hair and put on visible lipstick, too – the rich color is overwhelming her as it is.

I do really like the color, but it’s just a snore. No one is going to remember her in this.

I saw her recently on the Graham Norton show and she said this about pronouncing her first name:

    “It’s Saoirse, like ‘inertia’”

    Works for me.
