Fug or Fab: Mischa Barton

fug-or-fab

It seems that our girl Mischa, a year and a half removed from her Fug Madness finals spot, has now opened an eponymous boutique in England. Leaving aside my basic mistrust of her clothing-selection skills (she very publicly only improved at dressing herself after she hired a stylist), let’s take a look at what she wore for the opening. The good news: Her sign is pretty.

What do you think?

Definitely “not terrible, but a wee confusing”. But considering her history this is pretty great. I hope her store goes well, but I wish she had just called it “Mischa”.

What if people thought it was Mischa Collins store? I’d go in either way!

That dress is shiteous and the bag has no business with it.

It doesn’t bode well for her clothing line that she seems rather surprised at seeing the wares in her own store.

Compared to her usual ensemble – this outfit is cute! Also – the sign, very pretty.

Haha. Yes, this was my primary thought as well: Why does she looked shocked to be there? Did someone knock her out with chloroform and just deposit her in Mischa Barton? At least she looks to be filled with wonderment.

Her outfit is acceptable within the parameters of Mischa Barton, in that questionable, vaguely unflattering, eclectic funky way. The more I look at those shoes, the more I don’t like them. Plus, I feel strongly that she should stay away from ankle straps.

I would like to own the jacket on the mannequin, I think.

Those shoes would be really pretty if they weren’t see through — maybe a peachy nude color with the black piping and thingy on the toe. Her legs, however, are lovely, which is more than I can say for that dress. Can someone tell me why one side of the sheer whateveritis is longer than the other? Is that on purpose?

Thanks for “eponymous”, Fug Girl Heather!

Maybe all the recent unaccustomed sports-watching has driven me around the twist, but I really like this dress. It’s a bit strange, but it looks intentional and quite graceful, and it’s simple, and the fit is nice, and goes well with her fairly relaxed styling. It looks like something I would wear, actually, because I love modern, drapey, semi-flapper business. I know I have a higher Odd Tolerance than the Fug Girls, though. I also very much enjoy Mischa’s legs, which she is good at showing off in a way that takes advantage of the fact that they are not twiggy model legs.

I do agree, however, that the bag looks a little tacked-on and the shoes should not be transparent. Shoes should rarely be transparent, if you ask me.

I think she looks happy, which is a big change over recent years. So good on her.

I’m giving her a personal “Well Played,” but only for the old school mannequin. I’d visit just to take a gander at that. I hate these new faceless mannebot-things in stores.

I like that she’s doing this with her life. I like that it’s a boutique (and not a restaurant or a makeup/shoe/wig line). I like that she did it not in America. In my mind, notwithstanding her bewildered expressions, she is putting in real elbow grease with this, staying late, crunching numbers, taking inventory, holding conference calls with suppliers. I know this is almost certainly false, but please allow me my Thursday fantasies.

Exactly. The acting thing hasn’t worked for her and she’s giving something else a go. I like that.

She’s still acting, but she’s allowed to try other things as well and if she’s passionate about this, then good for her!

I don’t know, the dress isn’t awful but i hate the shoes. Fug is fug, i don’t care if it’s better than we’re used to.

She looks fine, I guess, for Mischa. Here’s the real question: How the hell did she manage to get a store up-and-running? How does this happen??

    • Sajorina

She either has the money to do it herself or investors to do it for her! It’s as simple as that!

The dress is cute on her IMO, but more suited to dinner or cocktails than to a daytime event. Shoes are awful. Adorable bag, doesn’t work with shoes or dress.

Those shoes are hideous. The dress is a bit of a hot mess, but it’s better than most of the stuff she wears.

sigh. I need to seriously unsee that Marilyn Manson link.

As mentioned above Mischa looks fine, for Mischa.

The activity of Marilyn Manson’s genitalia is a felony against nature.

This is a big ol’ Well Played. I would switch dresses with her in a heartbeat if I could… really like the whole ensemble. The swooshy effect of the hem, the decorated sandals it’s just all very flirty and fresh. Plus she looks so great, radiant and happy, and those legs look nicely semi-toned. Thumbs up for Mischa!

I like it & I’d wear all of it myself, so I approve! Plus, her hair & makeup look great! FAB! I like the store as well, it’s cute, cozy & the items are well displayed! I would so go her store for pure reasons! I kind of wish Fug Nation could do a pilgrimage to London to visit the store while she’s there… It would be AWESOME!

While I don’t think the purse goes with the ensemble, I’ll give Mischa a pass. While not perfect, the dress and shoes are cute enough and not terrible, and her hair and makeup look good. I do agree with other comments regarding the name of her store and logo. Maybe she could have called it Mischa B or something. The logo is so generic and snoozy — a cross between Heidi Klum’s clover design and Tory Burch. Oh well. At least she looks happy.

I love the dress and the bag and her hair. I hate the shoes with a passion. I think she could have had slightly less eyeliner too. Other than that, well played!

I think overall she looks pretty cute, and even cheery. I’m so glad – it’s like she woke up from a long, terrible dream.

The shoes seem too light-weight for the rest of her outfit.
Also, she has too-heavy raccoon eyes. I think only Catherine-Kate can really pull it off these days.

That sign should be in Comic Sans.

Hahaha! vandalfan is awesome. I came to remark on the sign, too — the typeface (Benguiat) is dated looking, and there is virtually no imagination involved. The dress is better looking than the sign. I agree with Nancy about the shoes looking too lightweight for the outfit, though.

The purse is a no-no. It needs a horse.

I find Mischa’s legs weird. They sort of don’t go in at the knee, so they look like inverted triangles. I personally wouldn’t show them off above the knee as much as she does. Just saying.

The color is pretty on her. The cut is slightly weird but it doesn’t look terrible. I’m so happy with her hair color. Not too light, not too dark.

I wish she would wear LESS eye make up though. She looks pretty when her makeup is simple. When she has all that dark makeup piled on it makes her look kinda crazy or messy. Some people can pull it off, some can’t.

Oh man, I had totally blocked the memory of Momsen/Manson crotch horror.

    Mischa looks cute.

you forget that britain will love this…and pretty much already loves her dress sense, which to the US is a bit wacky…
