Fug or Fab: Kristen Stewart

fug-or-fab

It’s nice that the Twilight: Breaking Dawn: Part II: Twilightier people haven’t forced her and Rob to pose for pictures together yet.

You’re right, it’s not that flattering – I think the fabric looks very thick, which doesn’t help. But I like it anyway!

it doesnt balance..there’s too much volume going on with the sleeves then it tapers down to shorts..had it been a dress, the skirt would have balanced out that volume.. but what the heck, i may not be a Twi-fan but I’m a K-Stew fan (she’s my girl crush) so still a thumbs up..the huge smile really helps!

Me three. It’s not sluty or tacky. It is different and it’s fun. And I don’t agree that it’s not flattering, outfits don’t have to be completely form-fitting to be flattering. We all know she’s young and fit, she has nothing to prove. And she has an amazing smile, it’s great to see her looking happy.

I actually like it too. Somehow it works for her.

brush your hair, girl ! how can anyone look at this on their head and be ok with it is beyond me

    • chickadee
      0

I would encourage her to wash and brush it! I’m sorry, but her makeup looks great, the outfit is not bad, but the best couture gown in the world is not going to help when you look like you haven’t shampooed in a week. As my mom has always said, you can have the most expensive clothes but if your hair and skin don’t look good, there’s no point.

THIS! Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. Please, for the love of God, cream rinse and a brush will not kill you.

Her hair looks clean and shiny to me. Go to zoom and look at those roots! That hair is not dirty.

        • Alaurable
          0

Agreed! If her hair was greasy there is no way she’d be getting that height and body on it. If I don’t wash my hair, I can dry-shampo it and tease it all I like, it falls flat no matter what. I think it might be that she goes for the messy / teased look to give her hair more body (my theory is she’s hiding her ears) and to go with her own style. And it’s just not giving her the nice clean-looking shine she’d be getting with say rollers and blow-dry.

Even forgiving the ink stains on her hand, as I’m sure she was signing autographs, she looks kind of unwashed to me. In a Lindsay Lohan kind of way, which means she’s probably perfectly clean but doesn’t seem it.

I think she looks good–very edgy yet youthful. Plus, she might as well show off those legs while she can. Even Kristen will reach the day when she can no longer wear shorts, let alone shorts as short as these. Sad truth.

    • paige
      0

The length doesn’t bother me- in fact, it’s almost demure for Kristen- but I never understood the big to-do about her legs (not saying you are making a big to-do about them, just a general comment). The only thing that seems to stand out to me is that they are thin, but don’t a lot of thin girls have legs that look exactly like hers? There’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but if we are handing out leg awards, I would definitely give the edge to, say, Carrie Underwood. That girl has some kickass legs.

Look at me, making up leg awards. Other imaginary awards go to Kate Middleton for hair, Michelle Obama for arms, Kerry Washington for lips, Christina Hendricks for boobs, and Dita Von Teese for skin. Halle Berry is the perennial winner of the “I win at everything” award.

      • B

I think it’s because she’s not that tall, but her legs look hell-a long anyway. It’s unexpected (to me at least).

@steen “I think she looks good–very edgy yet youthful. Plus, she might as well show off those legs while she can. Even Kristen will reach the day when she can no longer wear shorts, let alone shorts as short as these. Sad truth.”

What? Since when there’s an age limit (that you seem to assume very narrow) to show off legs? She can now and she will for decades to come.

I wish this were a dress and just a wee titch longer. If it were this would have been out of the freaking ball park. I love the makeup and shoes, the look overall is quite mod and she wears it well. I may not be a fan of her acting but I often like her style.

I want to strangle her hair dresser every time I see a picture of her.

  8. Kate
    0

I like her. I just do. And I think her face – as always – looks great here. But whenever I see anyone wearing a romper I can’t think about anything other than how on earth they manage to go to the bathroom. The zipper must be in the back, which means flailing helplessly in a bathroom stall, practically dislocating a shoulder to get out of the damn thing. I do think her legs looks fantastic – she should just stay away from the bar.

  9. Jacquilynne

I think that if ever there was a romper I could get behind, this would be that romper.

I’m still not sure I can get behind it, but I think she might be pulling it off.

And I’m not a fan of hers at all, so I’m not blinded to her faults by love or anything.

  10. elp

I think if this were a dress, I would be 100% for it.

But I cannot and will not stand behind a romper.

  11. Rachael
    0

I find this neither truly fug nor truly fab, but more . . . boring? She’s pulling it off. It doesn’t look bad. It’s not particularly interesting to me, but I don’t hate it.

  12. Helen
    0

Her face looks absolutely filthy, even dirtier than usual, and so does her hair. I’m having a hard time getting past the “ew” to see the romper.

Once I do get to it… you know what, this would be thoroughly adorable on a five-year-old. I think the designer should consider doing kids’ clothes instead.

If Stewart must wear it, and I suppose so since she already did, I do think those are the right shoes for it.

    • Andrea
      0

I agree, why does this girl always look like she needs a shower? I’m sure she’s usually clean so how does she manage to constantly look so… grotty. The gunk on her hands and stuff doesn’t help I’m sure.

      • Sylvie

*facepalm* It’s sharpie ink from signing photos for her fans.

        • Ladyblahblah

Oh, thanks. I thought she had just colored her own hair, which would explain alot.

        • Helen
          0

Yeah, I give her (or anyone to whom this happens) a pass on the hand ink. It’s practically inevitable when doing a lot of signatures.

          But her general dirtiness, yuck.

        • Andrea
          0

Well *facepalm* or not as I said it doesn’t help when she already looks grody.

      • Antome
        0

Andrea: I’m not a fan of her, but looks like you’re concerned about the success of a very cute yet too much normal girl looking girl. Just because she doesn’t look like an ethereal porcelain doll, she’s “grotty”.

I hate it! I liked it when I thought it was a dress, but knee-length or slightly above. I could even go with a top. But in this incarnation, well, I would like it as a cute baby outfit with the snaps in the bottom for diaper changes. It could have been a cute 1960s mod thing, but alas, it’s not.

I’d like it if it was either a dress or a jacket/shorts combo (don’t hit!). It loses her waist too much with the cut.

  17. Lynne

I hate the romper on principle but damn if she isn’t kind of selling it. Her hair makes me crazy though with the unkempt over the should thing she always does.

I could see this on Emma Peel, if it were tailored better, and either full-length pants or paired with opaque tights. That would be cool. KStew, unfortunately for her, is no Diana Rigg.

  20. Carolyn

I can’t with her. What IS it about swiping one side of her hair straight back?

She can wear fierce clothes, I’ll give her that.

  22. Ineka

A 60′s look with a contemporary twist, youthful and looks comfortable to wear – what’s not to like? Go the romper! And the smile! And the chessboard pattern is surely a reference to the ‘Breaking Dawn’ book cover.

  23. Tracey

This is an… almost! I mean, I would even have been fine if it was two pieces but the romper! Come on! If it had been a dress, I would have been after you for liking it… it would have been way too short.

  24. witjunkie

I flat-out love this. I love brown & white, I love the checks, I love that it’s shorts. She’s exactly who should be wearing it, in terms of age/physique.

Here face looks nice here; much better than usual. I don’t hate the outfit but I would have liked it alot more, even with everything else the same, if it were two piece.

  28. Verlaine

I love this, but I am notoriously biased on the subject of KStew.

  29. Sandra

If it was a dress it would be cute and in need of a few more inches of fabric. But it’s a #$^%@@!^&! ROMPER!! Formal shorts with the top attached is fug squared. I’m feeling very stabby indeed on this point.

As for being silent about her personal life, good for her.

  30. Erin
    0

Does this girl dry her hair with a vacuum cleaner? SERIOUSLY, what is happening on her head?!?!
That being said – the shoes are a win, and I don’t HATE the romper. Would prefer it as a short dress, but overall, this look doesn’t kill me. And I love that she’s smiling!!! :D

  31. Sajorina
    0

I love this… The romper says Mondrian Art/60s Mod & the shoes say Contemporary Rebel/Dominatrix to me, so how can that mix go wrong? IT CAN”T! It’s FABULOUS! And, the eye makeup + her smile = WIN!

  32. TaraMisu
    0

You know I love me some KStew :) I’m not a romper fan (who is?) I would like this SO much more if it was a dress/skirt. And the pattern….. it reminds me of a jester or something. But it doesn’t make me stabby or anything so all is well. I think her makeup is amazing and I don’t mind her hair.

  33. Tamburlaine

I like the big squares and the fact that she’s smiling – and the fierce shoes. If it was a two-piece, with a more fitted waist, I’d like it, even as shorts and top. But not as a romper.

  34. Cynthia W

I’m not mad at it, but I would have liked it so much more as a top and skirt or even a top and shorts. But, she’s still kind of rocking it.

  35. Susan

It’s a total win for me. Everything. Romper, shoes, makeup, hair, SMILE.

I am going to out myself here and say that I love rompers. I really do. They’re so easy to wear and the do flattering things to waists and legs. Feel free to revoke my fug membership ;)

Maybe it’s just residual pissed off-ness on my part about the way she was villified in the press over the whole Rupert What’s-His-Name Mess, but I kinda like the whole look. I’ve never been a big fan of hers but, all things considered, this looks really good ON HER and the fact that she’s actually smiling is a plus for me as well.
We can put this in the Win column.

  38. jerkygirl

I think this outfit should, in theory, suck (CHESSBOARD ROMPER ON A GROWN UP HOLY CRAP), but it looks good on her, and I love the shoes. I’d like it better as a dress, for sure, but I don’t dislike it at all. Shiny skin may be from sweating or something, but the greasy hair is pretty bad and I can make no excuses for it.

  39. jean
    0

I like it quite a bit until you mentioned it wasn’t the most flattering cut on her. It does make her look a tad boxy. And imagine her with a mod ponytail. That would have sold it for me. It might have also suited a taller person better. Imagine Charlize Theron in it. I was actually trying to think of a younger actress who is tall, but they’re all very wee now, aren’t they?

  40. Mia

My main problem is with her hair. Why?!?!

  41. Wilma

She looks good. Not sure if I like the romper, but she looks fab. She is helped by her gorgeous make-up though and the smile. She has such a lovely smile, glad to see it once in a while.

  42. pantsonfire

I’m inclined to generally like her style. Quite a lot, actually. But I can’t with this, and I’ll tell you why: The shape, fabric, and print are basically working against figure. She is a very slender gal, but it is pretty clear that whatever weight she would carry would be in her torso, rather than her legs. I think she might be a little short-waisted as well. And the effect of the stiff, thick fabric, with the big squares on top really emphasizes the upper body…basically she looks like a block with toothpicks sticking out.

  43. jj

Hopscotch Ice Cream Romper. Almost Jester Pirette Romper. Still. Works! She’s fun.

  44. Sarah
    0

The different opinions here prove that Kristen at least takes some risks. I like that she doesn’t go for the starlet no-class-just-short-dresses kind of ‘style’. She’s edgy and she makes mistakes (I mean sartorially). I don’t really like this from the waist down, but still: Good for her!

  45. Tiffany
    0

I really like this outfit. I think there is a difference between being unflattering to someone body, or not showing off one’s body. I don’t think this makes her body look bad, but I don’t think it really shows it off too much…as a woman, I think that is completely ok! We dont have to parade our assets every moment of every day.

  46. Billie
    0

The outfit is pretty cute, but I just can’t with this one. She always, always, always looks like she needs a shower and a good hair scrubbing. Yes, I get that it is most likely whatever product that’s being used on her hair, but, honestly, if your product just makes you look like your hair is greasy and unwashed, then shouldn’t you be looking into some different product?

  47. The Fugger
    0

…I don’t care if it’s a romper, I still love it. Mostly because I love the shoes. And yes, even the romper.

As they say, HATERS GONNA HATE.

  48. molly

She always looks…greasy. And her eyes don’t look as dead when she smiles.

  49. Lisbeth
    0

Great to see her smiling. The makeup looks too much like Nefertiti is now her style icon in a very amateurish way and the dress reminds me of a chocolate bar with white and dark chocolate squares. (Or maybe that’s just me craving chocolate.) But it’s still great to see her smiling.

  50. Alaurable

I just saw On The Road yesterday and after not really liking old K-Stew (for entirely made-up reasons) I now kinda have a girl crush on her. She is tinchy and this outfit does nothing for her figure but it’s cool and different. I’d rather see her wearing this with her rock-star hair and makeup, than a bandage dress with a tendrilly up-do and nude shoes. She has a leetle bit sticky outy ears (not that theres anything wrong with that) so I wonder if she goes for the big messy hair to hide them…

  51. VanDee
    0

I’m really not getting all these ‘she needs a scrub’ and ‘she’s got greasy hair’ comments. She looks clean to me. Really like her makeup and hair here. And her smile lights up her face. Like that top of this but not so much the romper.

  52. Esme
    0

I love it–she looks perfect in it. I like the whole neomod concept.

  53. Claire
    0

I concur with the comments that she is too grubby for good taste. Bruises, dirty hands, greasy stringy hair, and strings tied around your wrists are not helpful. I’m sure it’s the tail-end of a long tour, but she just looks so… unwashed.

    • Antome
      0

I bet this applies to guys too, or we are just ugly?
She’s ok to me as she’s human, bruises are human, she’s a living girl, not isolated in glass bell.

  54. Nickydooley
    0

A sleek updo would sell it for me. The mangy side-brushed hair ruins an otherwise cute look. And yeah, why does she always look like she needs a shower? Miley Cyrus has the same problem. Weird.

  55. Sarah O
    0

Wow, she’s actually a really cute girl when she smiles. BUT, I hate her hair! Ugh.
