Fug or Fab: Kristen Stewart

fug-or-fab

So, she and Pattinson broke up, and she came out looking really clean and fresh; she and Pattinson allegedly maybe supposedly are hooking up again on the down-low, and suddenly the hair goes wonkus again and she looks kind of tired. Good for the sex life, but not great for the follicles?

Her makeup (or maybe just her general weariness) makes her look like she’s on heroin, and her jacket reminds me of the 80s in a really bad way.

Totally agree Turangallia. She looks EXHAUST-PIPED. Never a good idea to go with the heroin chic look (contradiction in terms?!) when tired.

There is a picture of her on another site wearing this and honest-to-goodness smiling a real, actual smile–even a couple of them!!

I could never and would never wear this outfit (can’t do yellow), but I think on KStew, this is actually fab (compared to her usual, of course). If her hair were all one color, I would even be on board with it. I think the coloring issues stem from the combo of yellow jacket and hair that’s a different color on either side of her head. It makes skin hit hair color 1 hit hair color 2 hit yellow and I think it’s what’s making this wonky.

That jacket looks like Michael Jackson’s Thriller jacket: http://bossip.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/michael_jacksons_thriller_jacket.jpg

Looking at these pictures just reminded me I need to get the oil changed in my car.

I like the jacket, and I even like it with this outfit, but you’re right that it’s terrible with her coloring. Make the jacket some other color, this could have been a win.

Also, she needs a nap. As do I. As do, I’m sure, many other readers. Naps all around!

Agreed. Jacket is fab, but I don’t like the color (a) on her, period, and (b) with those noisy pants (which aren’t a huge problem for me on their own but don’t play nicely with an equally loud jacket). I am a sucker for the quilted effect, though.

I also second the naps motion.

Thirds on naps. I still do not understand why anyone thinks she is A). an actress B). a good actress C) all that good looking D) newsworthy.

          0

C would be a matter of opinion, but starring in a series of very high-profile movies leads to D for sure. As for A & B, just check her out in The Runaways, where she pretty much disappears into the character of Joan Jett, or Adventureland where she is also very good. She’s hamstrung by the Twilight material, which is dreck.

I have no opinion on her acting abilities, as I haven’t seen any of her movies. I’ve got no beef with her, and I certainly think she is just as newsworthy as any other actress. People have an interest in actors, who are important to our modern communal narratives; this is not new. So to the extent that celebrities are newsworthy (leaving aside your personal normative views on whether they *should* be newsworthy), I don’t see why Kristen Stewart is somehow different.

          I think she’s gorgeous.

I concur on The Runaways, I am no judge of acting, but thought she did the part justice. As far as her looks, she’s got an unexpected toughness to her look, which, combined with her conventional features, makes her interesting to look at. As far as newsworthy, I skip over the Robert Whatshisface coverage.

To me, the jacket simply doesn’t fit her. It overwhelms both her and the jacket in size and color.

Not on board with this outfit. I don’t know who could pull off that jacket (or color), the pants are kind of ugly and the shoes look ridiculous with them.

Girlfriend needs a nap. And a deep conditioning treatment for her hair. Something about the oiliness of her hair almost makes it look like she is slightly greying in the third picture (I know she is not actually greying)- that, combined with the dark circles under her eyes, makes her appear much older than 22.

It looks to me like she put in some of that spray-in dry shampoo and didn’t fully brush it through. I have super oily hair, myself, so I can sympathize, but take the extra minute to brush it out, girl!

Also, please get thee to a stylist. You are much to famous to be wearing…that.

The hair is terrible. Greasy and horrible looking.

The outfit is really not that bad. It’s age appropriate and she comes off as such a tomboy that she would have looked weird in a dress. I think it suits her personality and age but the jacket would have been much better in red or even blue.

Am I the only one that loves her crazy hair? I just feel like it suits her… The weird severe ponytail from a few weeks back was SO STRANGE on her. This is the K-Stew hair I like.

I would love this jacket with a flirty sundress, but I think it’s competing too much with the loud pants. And with that as the only color in this outfit, it’s definitely washing her out. Don’t really care for the boots.

No comment on anything not clothing related.

I guess I didn’t know this– I thought people commented on the absurdity of the celebrity culture along with the clothes. Sorry. Misunderstood.
Usually , I love the women and their choices. Just love them.

so- sorry you all if I was rude.

      • pantsonfire

Oh, no worries. I think that is a fair point–the cult of celebrity and why we are so fascinated by them. I guess I just feel like there are definitely more questionable targets of media attention (like, anyone from the Jersey Shore, for example)–as Joe Dwarf said, she’s been in some well received films; I lump her in as a real actress, not some woman famous for getting pregnant with 17 babies or something, so I would think she’s no more or less newsworthy than her peers. But reasonable minds can disagree. I do think that the general etiquette of the commenting here is to try to be diplomatic about someone’s looks, though–I mean, that’s not something a person can do that much about, as opposed to fashion choices or hair styles.

the light yellow plays well of the black I think. But the proportions seem off & with both the jacket AND the pants having an 80′s/90′s vibe. it looks a little dated to me. Also is the background blond in the first photo wearing the same jacket in black?

Like the ensemble but her hair is officially annoying the crap out of me. I realize that’s irrational. I even like the jacket but maybe not on her? You’re right, Heather. It’s the wrong color for her.

I love the jacket, but agree the color doesn’t work on her. The rest of the outfit is indeed very KStew… not something I would wear but…
I read somewhere that she has this jacket in like 3-4 colors…. she should have worn one of the other ones. ;)

I don’t really like any of it. And this particular hair style also makes her roots look funny, like either she is going gray early or her hair is naturally lighter and her roots are growing out — which happens to all of us, but that’s when you try to hide your roots, not flip them out for all to see.

    • esther
      0

i believe her natural hair colour is actually a sort of mousy blonde and is now growing out, which would definitely look grey against the dark reddish-brown colour she’s dyed it.

there’s a few fake-brunette celebrities with white skin and light blue or green eyes running about at the moment – Megan Fox, Katy Perry, Kristen Stewart, Adam Lambert. dark hair makes them much more striking than they would be with their natural blonde/mousey/ginger hair.

Suppose her roots look grey from dry shampoo? i.e., lack of showering? Whyyyyy does it always look like that! It annoys me as well.

I hate the hair swept to one side trend. It just looks so weird, and here, on top of that, it looks greasy and tangly.

The jacket would be better with a Nehru collar.

Just to clarify, the picture of Kristen Stewart in the lemon Thriller jacket, black satin tank, tropical print black slacks and dirty comb-over ‘do is up for Fug or Fab? If I would have known it was April 1st I’d have worn something more spring-y.

Would be so nice not to have the snarky relationship comments.

I heart KStew, but her hair here, it’s just stupid. I don’t think she and Rob are back together, because I think a big part of their relationship dynamic must have been, “Uh, no baby, that’s not as pretty as the regular way. Maybe just brush it.”

  23. Sajorina

I like the outfit, but this look would only make sense to me if she actually arrived at this event in a motorcycle… Without a helmet! Still, I wish the best for her and Rob!

The woman in the background is wearing the same jacket in black, and I like it better….they should swap.

I like the jacket. Not with her colouring and not with this outfit. And her eyes in this photo remind me of Hilary Clinton, except Hilary is 40 years older than her and is Secretary of State so she’s allowed to look that way.

The dirty-looking makeup and hair aren’t doing her any favors, but I like the outfit, albeit it’s a bit teenager-ish. That’s okay, she’s young. I think it’s cute and fun.

And I do think the yellow would work on Stewart if the makeup were different, or, maybe more importantly, if there were just less of it. IMO this shade of yellow is fine with her natural coloring, but not with the stuff that’s covering her face here.

I think she could totally pull this off if she didn’t look so exhausted.

Public appearance is supposed to be her job. If I showed up at any job I ever had, from digging ditches and stringing barbed wire fence to arguing at our state Supreme Court, looking this ridiculously unkempt and disheveled, no matter how expensive the clothing, I’d get canned at once.

lol i have those pants, except they’re a bit baggier with draw-strings at ends of the legs.

this is because they are pyjama pants.

leather jacket and boots thrown on over pj’s? wouldn’t surprise me.

You’re all wrong. I have looked at her face and the colours on her face and around it in close detail. Her skin, and the tones therein go very well with this pale yellow. It is anyway a lovely jacket, but the two together – especially with the slightly russet hair which she must have had dyed, though I’ve not been looking at her for an age and maybe this is old news – and this slight rockstar chick look which works so well on slim girls who are not wearing ripped up bras and exposed midriffs, is subtle, and, dare I say it, charming? What other colour CAN she wear? Blue and red has been mentioned and ecru, and black, and none will do, because they’re all too primary aside from ecru which is too tasteful, and here would look as if she was trying to do an ad for Joseph. I agree about the fact hair looks as if it is greying, and I sort of also agree about the fact it’s all on one wodge on one side, but I don’t mind either of those things because it looks, if anything, a little bit more voluptuous and rich than usual, and she would look vulgar if it was evenly distributed. What is terrible, and what someone ought to have told her about, is the trousers. (I know you call them pants.) They are just dreadful. She shouldn’t be wearing them with this outfit – or ever – it takes everything away from what I at least think is the ‘painterly subtlety’ of a biker jacket in lemon and this slightly red hair, and her – what almost looks like a black eye in one of the photos – all that is ‘art’ – moody – and it allows her to cry without affecting the look – but the trousers are to do with things like soft furnishings in Middle England or wrapping paper (I think you call it ‘gift wrap’), maybe a sponge bag. She should be wearing black leather, very tight (or even suede, or moleskin), trousers. I can’t think what came over her. The only OTHER way to do it, and this, I think is the less brave move, is to make the trousers lemon leather, and the jacket black. But that’s boring. So is white. I don’t understand her, because she’s being so hip, and then we get this table cloth pyjama routine. In her case, a micro mini in ripped tule would in fact look better, but she may be ‘denying the tarty look’ after she shagged that English tosser.

    P.S.
    1. I didn’t mean all those italics – I actually put a after ‘is’ to close them, but it didn’t work, so I’ll never use them again, sorry.
    2. I see Esther mentioned the pyjama idea immediately before me. I missed that. Sorry Esther.
