This isn’t BAD, exactly:
But she seems VERY close to turning around and informing me that Twin Peaks serves a damn fine cup of coffee.
What do you think? Comment it up:
My first thought was “Blues Brothers”
If that was the look she was going for, a hat and shades would have made it more complete.
The suit is great. It’s the make-up that kills it for me. That, or she should go back to her natural hair colour!!
That’s her natural hair color!
At first glance I thought she was a wax figurine, ala Madame Toussaud.
I like the suit, maybe if she had her down?
I think that would help a lot. I also still can’t get into her as a blonde.
I think she looks freaking fantastic here. The lipstick might be a touch harsh (just a shade lighter and it’d be perfect), but overall it’s a great departure from her usual style. I also love that she’s playing with androgyny without making it too severe; a lot of people seem to take that route, and I think this is much more effective.
I love a woman in a plain, sharp suit, and this is that, to the max. I think it would look more balanced if she still had dark hair, but, on the whole, I’m very much not mad at it.
Looks comfortable and cute. I don’t see much to complain about!
I just wish she’d have worn more interesting shoes.
Same. A bright shoe and this outfit would have killed me with awesome. As it is, she looks great because she’s beautiful, but the outfit is meh.
Oh, it’s bad, all right.
I just love that you referenced Twin Peaks. Can I get some cherry pie with the coffee?
They got a cherry pie here … that’ll kill ya.
BLUES BROTHERS! It fits her beautifully but I can’t imagine many situations where it would be appropriate. It’s too uniform-y.
They’ve started promo-ing Men in Black 3 already?
My thoughts exactly.
Yeah, I’m afraid she’s about to neuralyze–
Wait, what was I saying?
Wow. Whenever I’d see her annoying mug on House I’d scream “WAITRESS,” for she reminded me of so many I’d worked with when I was a chef. And whaddya know – she finally heard me.
However, I think this is her lame personal tribute to Reservoir Dogs.
Reservoir Dogs is exactly what i thought of, too. Hello, Mr. Pink.
Actually, she is a blonde.
For me, if her hair wasn’t just tied back… oh, I dunno. Maybe a colourful tie?
I think you’re spot on. It’s like it’s too tied down: black suit, skinny black tie, non-existent hair. If either the tie or the hair were more of a presence, it would save it.
That’s said, it’s better than how they dress her in character week after week on Once Upon a Time. Or at the very least, the slacks look like they fit her better. She actually looks like she could bend over without accidently severing some part of her body. (Skinny jeans are one thing, but the OUaT skinny jeans on her are distractingly painful looking)
It appears that she attended the party (sponsored by Hulu) dressed as Will Arnett in the Hulu ads. Strange.
I definitely wish she’d worn snazzier shoes. Like, maybe two-tone oxfords, for a pop of color?
Definitely two-tone Oxfords, and a nice pocket square in one of the colors that appears in the shoes.
No one thinks this is an homage to her time on HIMYM and she’s suiting up out of respect for NPH?
I love a lady in a suit, so I’m on board with that. I wish her hair was different. This feels like just-came-from-the-gym hair. I can’t decide if I would like her make-up if her hair was styled differently. I OFTEN wish she would wear softer make-up though, because she has such wonderfully defined features that I think her face can easily veer into a severity I’d rather she avoided.
I also saw this and immediately thought of Resevoir Dogs, but since today is the 30th anniversary of the death of John Belushi, I gotta go with the Blues Brothers instead.
All she’s missing are the shades.
Karl, is that you? Uhm, no, the collar is not high enough…
There’s menswear-inspired, which I love, and then there’s dressing exactly like a man, which . . . not so much.
this comes dangerously close to chick-drag. needs softening.
Wait – why is she hiding her Miss Piggy hair?
Oh, she’s going for the butch look. Righhhhhhhhht.
This is an exceptionally well fitting suit. Men could take notes for their tailors from this.
The hair and grease face ruin it though.
If you’re gonna go menswear, go whole hog and put a belt on. Also, even if the intent is androgyny, the hair is awful. Scraped-back ponytails don’t look good on guys either.
I wasn’t really focusing on the picture as I scrolled down and my unfocused eye thought it was neil patrick harris with bright lipstick on.
I’m jealous she has a suit that fits so perfectly. This is a winner for me. Rock on, Jennifer Morrison.
I like the *idea* of this outfit, and it fits her well. I guess I just don’t think she’s pulling it off. I’d like to see this on a girl with more swagger!
Oh and I agree with Jessica about it needing snazzier shoes…
I think she looks like a limo driver who somehow wandered onto the red carpet.
Um….did she do something to her face…? Something is not the same and I can’t tell if it’s just bad makeup or a little actual touchup if you catch what I’m throwing…
A definitely like a woman in a suit, and she’s no exception. But lady suits are suits, too, hence ladies should look dapper whilst wearing one, too. So, step one: buy a pair of pants with belt loops or suspender loops. Buy a belt or suspenders and wear your accessory of choice. Step two: If your sleeves are too long, have a tailor take them in. Flash some cuff like a gentlewoman, bonus points for nice cufflinks. Step three: Acknowledge that even if matching black suede shoes with a black suit might look funky in person, the suede will most certainly look gray and dowdy on camera. Since you’re already focusing on your feet, have the nice tailor who did you’re sleeves slightly hem your pants too if they seem a tad on the long side.
This is like a lady version of what happens after Ryan Gosling spends eight weeks giving Robert Pattinson sartorial advice. Hair included.
I love the menswear look on a woman, but no, just no to this. It could have been improved with a different shirt and some spikey, lovely sandals, perhaps in silver or gold or with sparkles/bling. To me, the trick of wearing a suit like this is adding just enough feminine touches so it doesn’t look like you wandering in from the kitchen as a cater-waiter.
I can honestly say that I don’t like any of this.
I’m not a big fan of suits, which I think stems from my own personal distaste for layering in any shape or form (I won’t even wear a winter coat until it hits 0 or below). So to me, suits just look uncomfortable. That being said, however, hers looks like it fits well. But it’s just kinda…boring. Better shoes, better hair, better make-up could all liven it up enough to be, if not fab, at least not fug.
SHOES!!! GIRLFRIEND NEEDS BETTER SHOES! a very ballsy (and actually very nice) look but those shoes just ruined it for me!
Not bad at all, but also not special. I’ll call it “adequate.” Something seems to be missing in the styling – maybe it’s that she looks like she’s dressed to usher a junior college musical festival, where everyone has to wear black and white. I dont’ know. It’s certainly not fug, nor is it fab. Just harmless and cute.
She’s a beautiful girl, but the combination of the hair, makeup and suit is too severe, and it’s overwhelming her looks. Two of those three things might have worked, but she needed to change up at least one of them, IMO. And Ginnifer Goodwin’s dumpy couch dress made me sad too.
No, I can’t get on board with this. Especially after poor Ginnifer got “fugged.”
The suit looks great on her; I think she just needs to let her hair down (maybe work some curls into it?) and apply a bit of powder to cut the shine.
I just wish that she’d done something to feminize it a touch. It looks too menswear and not menswear *inspired* enough. I agree that her hair should be down, and possibly some better shoes. Mostly though, I wish that this had either a bracelet cuff or a cropped pant. That way she would be showing some wrist or ankle and it would have a hint of femininity while still being menswear inspired.
Yeah, some awesome-colored shoes, lighter lipstick, and hair down, this would be excellent. I WISH I had a suit that fit this well! Although, if I were wearing this, I’d nix the tie and unbutton the shirt a few buttons. Of course, then you basically have every J. Crew or V. Secret suit picture ever taken.
Also: I’m glad I was at home when I read this, because I CACKLED at the Twin Peaks reference. Thank you, ladies, for interjecting humor and fashion into my daily life!
Twin Peaks, Men in Black, Blues Brothers, Reservoir Dogs … you’re all hitting the fug on the head.
Yes, that is bad exactly.
If she just left her hair down, and it was all nice and bouncy , I think it would be perfect. Oh, and like another reader said, just tone down the lipstick a shade or two.
No, it’s pretty bad. All I can think of when I see women wearing ties is Avril Lavigne, so that’s never a good thing. But I suppose that it doesn’t help that I truly hated her character on HIMYM, and thus sort of hate her too for no real reason.
Also: why is she still blond? Who told her that was a good idea? Why doesn’t anyone ever consult me on these sorts of things???
She’s a natural blonde!
Geek Squad interview?
I LOVE menswear fashions on women when worn well. This is…not.
She needed better, softer hair. A shirt with some interest. A statement shoe. Maybe some jewelry to give it some spark.
I LOVE IT! I love the suit & the makeup is fabulous, but why, oh, why did she wear those shoes? This AWESOME SUIT calls for black or black&white patent leather stilettos! And, her luscious long wavey hair would’ve looked gorgeous down with a pair of diamond earrings! This could’ve been better, but I’ll FAB her anyway!
She and Lindsay Lohan need to go back to red hair. She looks super-pale and the lips are much too much!
I thought she was attending a costume ball. Dressed as Leonardo Dicaprio. Well? Isn’t she??
The Men In Black are hiring?
Evan Rachel Wood just trotted out a menswear inspired ensemble very similar to this at the 2012 Amnesty International Secret Policeman’s Ball. However, whereas Ms. Morrison looks like a cocktail waiter at the Groucho Marx Dinner Theatre ERW has learned the subtleties of making menswear work for her: perfect tailoring, fun finishes, and a really kick-ass pair of heels. You can see her most recent take on the trend here:
Ya fluffier hair.
Waiter?!? There’s some Fug in my soup.
No likey. I don’t really like the tie/ menswear thing for women.
she needs cigaret pants and a colorful shoe
She needs to stop dressing like Dan Aykroyd.
She’s too pretty to look that bad.
Aw, come on. I love all of this! Okay, not the shoes. But she looks so cute, and the pie in Twin Peaks is delicious.
I hate this! I’ve never liked women in men’s clothes.
You know, a black suit on a woman must fit really well otherwise it makes her look like a function waiter. Just like this. Especially when she has her hands in her pants.
LOL function waiter! That’s it
HA! I’ve never commented, but I had to show my appreciation for the Special Agent Dale Cooper reference! I actually don’t hate this. I just wish she had some fun styling going on with it. Like a better shoe and loose hair, maybe?
Terrible. She’s no Marlene Dietrich.
She needs to sex this up a bit. Sexy shoe, cigarette pants, beautiful hair – something to bring it from a men’s suit to a gorgeous woman in a men’s suit!
The look would be better if it was properly tailored. I can’t believe that she couldn’t find a tailor to ensure her arms didn’t look like Barbie’s did when you bought the off-brand ensembles. And it looks as though she’s walking all over the hem of her trousers. I know she can afford to look better.
The problem here is fit and styling. There’s no sparkle here or anywhere and everything is just so sloppy. It’s like she was styled by her 15 year old little brother. See Anne Hathaway on how to wear a suit Jen!
Female limo driver waiting to pick you up at the airport.
Am I the only who sees Kirsten Dunst?
I’d tweak the fitting a little but overall I like it. I love women in suits.
HAHAHAHAH The Knack! Yes! Seriously, I love menswear on women and this at least fits really well. But lighten up, Jen. Flashy shoes, maybe or a loud tie? Lapel pin? Oh, yeah, wash your face and let your hair (preferably in its natural color) down. Relaaaaax.
Dale Cooper was exactly who I thought of upon seeing the picture. Oh, and fug. Or, I guess more accurately, meh.
Kind of makes her look slouchy even as she is standing up straight. It’s just sloppy (that collar is too big; the shoes look dusty) and unflattering to me.
I don’t like it. Looks like she put on a mens suit that was talored to her body but, it does nothing for her, it’s just boring. Evan Rachel Wood wore a suit the other night that she looked beautiful and edgy in. Women who try this look should take a page out of ERW’s playbook.
I think it is, in fact, bad, exactly.
Well . . . I can’t get there from here.
For those of you complaining about her hair, please bear in mind that it is completely impossible to see her hairdo in this picture. It wasn’t a plain ponytail. She had an elegant French braid across the left side of her haid, with the end of it wrapped around the ponytail holder. That and the vibrant, feminine makeup make a striking contrast to the slim-tailored menswear look, in my opinion. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hFo5lB6lY8A/T1X_oofT7bI/AAAAAAAAE2M/6N3WUrSEdxw/s1600/ginnifer-goodwin-jennifer-morrison-paleyfest-11.jpg
