(6) CHLOE SEVIGNY vs. (10) ZOSIA MAMET
I feel that these two may be each other’s spirit animals. That said, I have questions.
That is hilarious- spirit animals! I have grown to admire Zosia- or her character on Girls at least as she is the only one who seems to ever learn anything. These women are originals and to be revered! Spirit Animals indeed! What an honor!
This was a tough one because I didn’t vote for either of these two in the last round
This was tough because I voted for BOTH of these two!
I work in IT outsourcing, and a “Sev 1″ is a severe outage problem, so it’s HILARIOUS that your Sev 1 was a photo of that house-of-haunted-mirrors dress that the Sev wore to the Met Ball. Still, I voted for Zosia — that sour facial expression that she seems to always wear (plus those aggresively red lips she trots out from time to time) just slay me.
Ha ha ha! The captions I wrote got eaten, which is the only reason you even saw Sev 1, but now I’m glad you did.
And thank you, thank you, thank you for continuing to post — is it Sev5? The one with the ginormous left pouf on her shoulder? That photo is full of WIN and hilarity.
At least Chloe is trying to own and sell her fug. Zosia Mamet looks consistently like she’s trapped in hell and her fug is the hair shirt she’s forced to wear; for me, that gives her the champion’s edge in this competition.
Concurred, VanceMan, and well put! Sevigny has fun with her clothes, whether we love them or not. Mamet really does look as if she’s being punished with them.
Yes. Zosia always has no emotion which makes me pissed which means that I couldn’t care less what the other contestant is wearing. Chloe at least SMILES when she is wearing her fug.
At least Chloes fug seem to have some sort of point of view… Zosia is just so strange! Why does she refuse to smile??
this was SOOOOOOOOOOOO tough to call. chloe by a millimeter. that last mesh top put her over the line.
joyous fug always loses to sad fug. With The Sev, I often think, “that would be cute with different ‘fill in the blank’…” and with Zosia, I think, “oh, child. none of that works. cover your ankles. And fix your hair. “
I feel the opposite- Zosia is always just so morose, and her clothes are right there with her. The Sev, OTOH, looks so thrilled with her wackadoodle outfits. I vote for the happy fugger over the sad fugger every time.
Agreed! I always vote for the sad fugger. I have much more sympathy for someone having fun with their crazy than the person I look at and go “oh honey, please don’t.”
The impression I get of these two is that Sevigny chooses what she wears based on some personal sense of style, and Zosia just chooses things because she HAS no sense of style. That, plus her droopy hair and lifeless facial expressions, got her my vote.
YES! I agree wholeheartedly!
I voted for Zosia because she scares me more
She is terrifying.
Sad and sour over sassy. I’m strangely attracted to Chloe’s fug. I may need to see someone about it.
A lot of the time, I really like Sevigny’s choices. The mirror dress slays me! I think it’s adorable on her. It would probably not work on anyone else. I love the Magic Eye dress, too, with the same caveat.
You would not catch me trying these things! But I think they’re exuberant, interesting, and very cute on her.
Skip the specialist. I’ll make us a nice cup of tea, and we can share a plate of chocolates and tell each other all about it!
I often like Chloe’s choices too. While she’s certainly no Diane Kruger, I think she has the quirkiness and innate sense of personal style to carry things off that most people couldn’t. (People like…Zosia Mamet.)
And I adore that mirror dress.
Their clothes were almost an even match-up! In the end, I voted for Zosia because she looks so grumpy. The Sev has a joy about her fug that I just love!
Yes, Spirit Animals (BRILLIANT, again) they are. I feel that the Sev is the higher evolved in fuggery of the two though and that Zosia could learn so much for her cracked out style of dressing. Also, the Sev plays roles with her fug like: Monistat loving, cropped Mom jeans enthusiast with a side of 90s chunky clogs fabulousness in slide 14, sandal loving prairie girl hipster in slide 16, and elegantly weirded-out Magic Eye devotee in slide 2. She is truly magical with her brand of fug and so commited. LOVE.
Zosia looks lost in her fug. Embrace the fug, Zosia, EMBRACE IT. The Sev FTW.
If you don’t already, you should check out Tom & Lorenzo- they make up alter-egos for each of the Sev’s wonkus outfits and it is HILARIOUS. Sorry Fug ladies for shilling out another blog, but I know you and TLo are friends! I bet those lunch dates are hilarious. Speaking of hilarious, these are possibly the funniest captions I have ever read in my life. I vote Zosia- when people wear lipstick with zero eye makeup, they usually look like wax figures of people with dysentery. She and Chloe have a very similar style but Chloe has the attitude to pull it off.
I voted for Zosia because at least Chloe smiles. C’mon, Shosh!
I feel as if Chloe at least frequently hits ‘fashion’ on her dartboard, while Zosia appears to be trying for fashion, but more often hits ‘fug’ square on the nose.
Zosia, while I too would be spiritually bummed at being connected in any way to Girls, no one likes a sourpuss at happy celebrity events!
This one is SO hard.
Two Amanda’s agree…this one is SO hard.
*Amandas (How did that apostrophe get in there? I blame it on depression caused by looking at this match up.)
Is that anything like “30 Helens Agree” on Kids In The Hall?
I blame everything on auto-correct.
THIS WAS HARD. But I went with Z.Mam cause she looked crazy. And not like Sev’s crazy which is a happier crazy. Plus those white shorts in slide 13(?) are TERRIBLE.
They are basically equal in their very very tragic hipster fug, but I went Chloe because I think her styling is worse. Girls girl’s hair and makeup range from boring to ok, but Chloe always looks like a full on mess.
I never though I could find someone’s who fug out fugs The Sev. Both of these ladies have utterly incomprehensible taste in terms of color and fit., and in any other contest Sev’s Prince Valiant headsuit usually tips the scales. But here, nothing can overcome the fugliness of Zoisia’s stringy hair, schlumpy poses, and morose expressions.
Zosia Mamet doesn’t look as happy in her fashion, so my vote went to her. At least Sev looks like she is enjoying herself.
This IS hard. I want to vote Chloe because I just want to keep looking at her. The mirror dress makes me laugh every time. But do I think Zosia actually looks worse?
Is it me, or does Zosia sort of look like she could be Kat Von D’s little, non-face-tatted sister (when she has her hair down and a red lip going on)?
Hmmm. Yeah, I could see that.
Talk about a tough match! I voted for Zosia only because I was favoring the newer, up-and-comer. But they’re cut from the same cloth, so to speak.
These two are so evenly matched … kudos to the bracketing system … such a tough decision, but Zosia is just almost unredeemable.
Let me tell you a little something about my bracket. I had Sev winning this one because I thought she WOULD win – not because she was my choice. I actually voted for Z.Mam, and imagine my delight to see that she’s winning! That blows a hole in my bracket, but I should’ve filled it out with my heart all along.
Also, the fact that her dad is David Mamet always makes me want to do the ” ‘Fuck you!’ – David Mamet” quote.
This is hard because I wore half of Chloe’s wardrobe in the 80s. Is her closet where my Goodwill contributions went?
I have Mamet going all…the…way. Until Biebs slaps the ball out of her hands. While I appreciate Chloe’s commitment to the fug, I actually liked some of what she wore this last year, and her hair only looked hideous some of the time. Whereas I’ve been waiting ALL YEAR to put ZM ZM ZM ZM all the way across the page.
HOW IS SEFUGNY LOSING TO FUGSIA
I MEAN IT’S FUGÖE FUGGING FUGFUGNY HOW DOES FUGSIA FUGMET EVEN HOLD A CANDLE TO HER
DOES THE WORD “FUG” MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU AFTER THIS
I love you, Chris P. (Crispy?? Are you a bag of chips? Then I would love you even more.)
I voted for Zosia because somehow Chloe manages to pull off some of her otherwise heinous looks through sheer attitude. That said, I soooo badly want to see all of these photos again, but with each of them wearing the other’s outifts.
I want to vote for The Sev because I think she is a treasure, and her mirrored Met Ball dress makes me smile every single time I see it. I like to imagine her at that event, enjoying the perplexed and horrified expressions, and noting who used the mirrors to check themselves out. I’d rather see more of her crazy outfits and hair in the forthcoming rounds, but that tells me that Zosia’s fug really is worse. I want it to stop.
I think Zosia might hate herself on some unconscious level, if not then why do that to herself?! Chole’s FUG is pure joy and I love her for it! So, my vote went to Zosia for bringing me down to her sartorial hellhole! Thank God, Chloe pull me out!
So many questions that may never be answered. Now all I hear in my head is “How many fugs must a woman don, before we beg her stop? The answer my friend, is fuggin in the wind… the answer is fuggin in the wiiiiiind…”
The Sev’s fug just isn’t as severe this year. If y’all had posted the haircut pic again, it may have swayed me as it did in the past rounds. Plus, at least she owns her look, and isn’t dour and miserable in her questionable oufits.
Yes, sassy Fug > dour Fug.
seeing all that dour on Zosia makes me want to go out, have some cosmos, and party it up.
This was the toughest vote for me thus far, but I think I voted for Zosia because I fear she’s doing permanent damage to her neck. Chloe is in the competition every year and irks me more as time marches on, but she still smiles. Smiles matter!
This slideshow makes me want Chloe to take Zosia under her wing and teach her the ways of selling fug with joi de vivre.
Get it, Zosia!
Is this real life? Is this just fantasy?
I had to vote for the Sev out of sheer respect for her dedication to the exploration of fuggary in all its forms. Zo is making an excellent case for herself, however.
The answer to the question in slide two is: yes, that is quite close to what my migraines look like.
