So, those of you who follow us on Twitter know that I have started watching the most charming Australian TV show, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. As I believe I said there, if you enjoy FABULOUS HATS and GREAT COSTUMES and MURDER and SASSINESS, you will like it. It’s like if Murder She Wrote were set in ’20s Australia and starred a fabulously dressed flapper with loads of money who has simmering chemistry with a dreamy police inspector but who also decided, while that was percolating, to sleep with a different hot dude every week. It is very refreshing to watch a show where the glamorous, feisty heroine basically does whatever she wants, and what she wants is to solve mysteries and wear amazing hats and make out with hot dudes and generally be awesome. (Linda Holmes at NPR did a great interview with Essie Davis, the star.) I believe the appropriate word for the entire endeavor is “fizzy.” Like champagne. Anyway, the nice people at Acorn have given us the complete DVD or BlueRay collection (your choice) of season one and season two to give away today, and I am delighted, because I think it will be right up your street. (The show is also streaming on Acorn TV, which, and I know this is relevant to MANY of your interests, also has a TON of other British/Australian television; Season one is also on Netflix.)

Seriously, you guys: the costumes are beyond. AND THEREFORE:

THE TASK: I will pick the winner from the comments by random draw. But to keep it fun, please share in which historical time period YOU would most like to be a sassy detective with an unlimited wardrobe budget and a variety of hot suitors.

THE RULES: All entries must be posted in the comments of this post by 9 p.m. Pacific time on Monday. US and Canada residents only — I’m sorry, international readers! I’m going to do one of these that’s open to everyone soon. GOOD LUCK!
