Please send me Kristen Schaal’s dress in my size, and if that’s not available, I’ll take Allison Tolman’s gown in my size. Seriously, these are fabulous!

Amen, sister. I love the 40′s vibe of Kristen Schaal’s whole look and Allison Tolman is gorgeous.

Kristen Schaal is totally channeling Marilyn Monroe’s infamous subway grate look! LOVE IT. And Allison Tolman looks fantastic. She should live in that color. So nice to see two of my favorites just nailing it and looking so happy at the same time.

    These are mostly fab.

I’d chop the peplum off of Vanessa Williams’ dress, but it is a great color and she still looks great in it.

  3. Ruth
    +4

Vanessa Williams looks beautiful but there’s something about the bodice/sleeves that looked Mother of the Bride to me.

  4. Diane

I don’t find Kristen’s dress to be that flattering in the……um, bust area, but maybe that’s just this photo in particular?

    • Lynne
      +6

It’s her posture, I think. Kristen maybe needs a red carpet posing tutorial.

      • Megs
        +1

I love it, but it did appear to be cut oddly across the chest – like, I couldn’t actually tell if the straps were so supposed to come down over her boobs or the waist part was supposed to come up. But I decided it was the awkward posture.

Where did Amanda Peete find her formal-wear version of a hospital gown?

  6. Jill

Sarah Silverman has never looked better.

I agree and I loved that she galloped up to get her Emmy; it appeared that she jumped over a camerperson??
I just wish HAMM would shave – it covers too much of the face. He looks like a bear. Jennifer is lovely in purple. Lucky Jennifer.

      •  Wildviolette
        +9

NOOOOOO!!!!! The HAMM beard is one of my most favoritest things in all of humankind!!!

        • Another Kate
          +1

I concur. I like him beardy or nonbeardy. We all win, either way. And Jennifer is so pretty. She always looks great, IMO.

Yep, pretty darn awesome. (One tiny kvetch, though: I wish she’d had a manicure, or at least performed a little nail tidying at home.)

      • Ruth
        +6

On E’s coverage (where she seemed extra, uh, “happy”), she explained that she had been on the road and hadn’t had time for a manicure.

Why do I waste brain space retaining such stupid stuff?

        •  Mrs. Helpful
          +4

I had to agree with Guilana, probably for the first time, that I am afraid of Sarah Silverman.

        • anne p.
          +8

You aren’t kidding about the brain space: I keep telling my husband, “Seriously, I don’t TRY to remember this fluff; it just STICKS.” I wonder why? (esp. when–in my case anyway–so much important stuff skids away like my brain is Teflon ~ )

  7. Lynne

Jennifer Westfeldt looks gorgeous but is the hem of her dress weird? Looks like a last minute limo job with a stapler. Marchesa is surprisingly not horrible this time out. Good for them.

Vanessa Williams is better than that dress. I hate that particular colour of green. It evokes memories of 70s polyester.

    • Looly
      +3

Yes, the hem is very poorly done. I could have done better with a flatiron and some scotch tape.

I actually think Sarah Silverman has been really good on Masters of Sex, which is odd because I’ve liked her in one thing ever (Take This Waltz).

    • hfree
      +3

She is so good in “Take This Waltz.” I love that movie.

    • Genevieve
      +1

Yep, agreed. I don’t tend to care for her in general, but I really think she’s been doing a good job. (And that show is ridiculously amazing in general. )

      • jean
        +1

Me three! It isn’t a big role which I think was smart. I hate Take This Waltz but she did not detract from it. She can act.

        • Paige
          0

I think she’s great on Masters as well. I don’t find her distracting at all. She’s part of a the secondary storyline and I think it was a good place for and she makes sense for the character. I HATED Take This Waltz. Like I harbor deep resentment towards that movie for having taken 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. BUT, that has nothing to do with Sarah. I also don’t understand her and Michael Sheen as a couple but that’s neither here nor there in terms of her acting ability and I’m happy they’re happy but they’re an odd pair to me.

About Alexandra Daddario’s dress: is it just me or can you see through it? Am I seeing…THINGS…in her chest area? Maybe she has shields on and they’re what I see? It could be a pretty dress on the right person. I agree about the color washing her out but my main complaint is that it’s too small on her.

    •  HelenBackAgain
      +2

Could be shields? I can’t tell. But I hate the dress anyway, and you’re right, it’s too small.

You’d think, when a stylist gets a client as naturally va-va-voom as Daddario, they’d wat her to look spectacular, right? And it would NOT be hard to accomplish that!

I dunno, maybe she picked it out herself, and she just… likes beige.

    • Willllma
      +1

I thought the same thing, it feels something is showing thru in nippular region. Could be shields…I guess. She is so gorgeous, a paper bag would look divine on her but this could/should have been better.

I guess it’s official, necklaces have been outlawed in LA. Too bad, I say. The lack of jewelry in general is odd.

I am loving all of these dresses, especially Jennifer’s, Allison’s, and Kristen’s. I want them all in my closet, post haste!

Very glad I’m not the only one who dislikes Sarah Silverman. I find her extremely unfunny….one of the few female comedians I actually dislike.

    • Looly
      +12

      Can’t. Stand. Her.

It also bugged me she went to the podium to accept her award in bare feet! I understand your fancy shoes may not be the most comfortable, but at least put them on to accept your award. Granted, who knows if she was even wearing shoes? She could have left them in the limo after toking on her vape pen.

      • greatwhitenorthchick
        +12

I don’t get the appeal, either. I find her aggressively unfunny. Same with Amy Schumer (sat through 3 of her shows, time I will never get back). I think SS might be a better actress than a comic. I DO love her dress; she has never looked better.

      • Willllma
        +5

I do not find her funny or charming or interesting and can’t understand her popularity. I don’t enjoy Louis CK either, so maybe I am just missing some comedy chip since both of them are critical darlings.

        •  Joanie
          +4

Louis used to be way more fun, too.

What is it with comedians who insist on becoming very poor caricatures of themselves? Kind of like…remember when Ann Coulter first showed up on Bill Maher’s first show? Remember Bill Maher back then, too? Ann took what was “biting and pithy” to sour and pure acid. Bill became a pissy little man. WHY? Why do people keep doing this to themselves? (I also had a friend who was very, very funny and she went ultra-Coulter…and then disappeared. Which, in a way, I’m kind of glad because the put on became a regular thing and she was really unpleasant to be around.)

I think this is why I love GFY so much: Jessica and Heather have found a way to be exceedingly funny and majorly charming all while managing to incite a touch of snark. In their interview, they touched on it quite beautifully how they walk that fine line and resist going too far. I wish every comic and every public personality could read that and take their philosophy to heart. Because, you know? In this day and age, it’s way too easy to be hateful and crass and coarse and awful to such an extreme and have people nod along. It’s much more interesting when you find a way to pinch or nip at the heels of criticism and remain endearing. FugGirls, you do this superbly and I wish more followed your example.

    • Lucasta
      +7

I used to REALLY not like her – I still don’t like her comedy at all, I think she relies too heavily on Pretty Girl Saying Something Really Crass = Hilarity! – but she shows up on comedy podcasts now and then and I’m always surprised that I find her funny and likeable when she’s not actually performing.

      • Narshkite
        +1

And smart. I don’t love her stand p, but when she talks she is insanely smart and interesting. Her Marc Maron interview was great (then again he is the best interviewer ever — and I also don’t like his stand up.) I did love her acceptance speech.

    •  Joanie
      +1

I am really not a fan of hers anymore. She used to be funny and then she took her shtick too far and forgot to reel it back in. You can’t be all things all the time. You gotta choose.

Now, Kristen Schaal…I kinda just want to hang with her. She’s a delight.

I adore her. Smart, funny, astute. Just a voice of dissent!

Lots of good things in this post. Amanda Peet’s dress is not one of them. It’s like her hair is a bit twee, but her dress pattern is grandma’s couch. Sarah Silverman’s dress is fine, but too much boob there. I adore Allison Tollman in Fargo and she looks amazing here. That color!

  13. TonyG
    +3

I love each of the three green dresses.

  14.  HelenBackAgain

The Tailoring Fairy needed to visit several of these dresses the night before. Westfeldt’s hamm hem needed work, Schaal’s bodice, Tolman’s entire dress, Silverman’s entire dress (and in particular, that one needed some chest support built in).

Vanessa L. Williams’ look is great on her, and it fits well! She wins the slideshow, I think. Also, totally agree, she is the only Vanessa Williams for me, too.

Amanda Peet looks like Holly Hobbie. And it’s still better than she usually does! She generally looks good in candids in her own casualwear, though, and she dresses her children adorably. Maybe she’s just a jeans-and-khakis kind of person.

Allison Tollman looked stunning, not that I caught a glimpse of her on emmy night…I was so rooting for her to win in her category. She was just fabulous in Fargo. Was beautiful on the show and in this photo.

Agreed. Molly Solverson has given Tolman a lifetime of good will from me, but I truly thought she looked phenomenal.

I did not love or hate her dress, but I loved her on Fargo. That win would have made me so happy. I hope she continues to work now that her Fargo time is at an end.

I’m very, very neutral on Sarsh Silverman, but I admit that I second Lainey’s opinion that it her acceptance was somewhat charming given that she likely wasn’t expecting she win. She picked a good dress for it, though.

Amanda Peet’s hair, though. It looks so 80s, and not in a good way.

One last comment. I love all the bold color combos this season. It makes the dull nudes look especially dull.

I always love Jennifer Westfeldt’s dresses. I think we have very similar taste.

I’ve seen Jennifer’s dress somewhere before. Did Sofia Vergara wear something similar a while back?

alexandra’s dress would have been so striking in a color of some sort. and allison tolman looks amazing, although i’m still mad she didn’t win the emmy.

Whither Jonathan Scott and his kilt/harlequin briefs combo? That was hilarious!!!!

Kristen Schaal is the BEST. I will take her over any other funny lady. And she looks so cute here.

Alexandra Daddario: Beige is so hard for brunettes to wear and the sparkly-ness of the fabric adds insult to injury.

Kristen Schaal is a delight and I know this because she has judged air guitar on two occasions, this year’s LA semifinal and last year’s national finals, and she totally GETS IT which is both awesome and rare in a comedian.

    Also, she’s a horse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvd6MBsiDBo
