This one finished with a GINORMOUS wedding gown, but I couldn’t hold out on you, so I’m putting it first. Enjoy.
Note: We didn’t have the complete show available; for all of it, and in the intended order, drop by The Cut.
Sorry for the shouting but….AGAIN!! WHY IS IT ALL SHEER?!! *sigh*
This is haute couture, so the idea is to show the construction of the dress, and a lining will be provided according to the wearer. Pretty standard for this kind of show.
Sure, sure. fine, fine. then why do the celebs/stylyists almost never add the lining? That is the problem. We’ve been stuck all year looking at different versions of these dresses and all the forsaken granny panties that were worn under them.
Well, I agree with you there. I get twitchy when I see a beautiful gown ruined by visible granny panties on the red carpet.
Such pretty, ethereal gowns. I can even look beyond the questionable amount of sheerness.
This is pretty disappointing. I know most of it is in the Elie Saab wheelhouse, but the colours are so blah for the most part, and I am so, so sick of the sheer-skirt-granny-panties trend. The Saab Sheer has in the past been done with a bit more creativity, I think? The lovely coral-ish reds and the gown you suggested for Chastain are really the only bright spots.
blah is the word … Also yawn, meh and sigh. Oh for a variety of colours…!!! That said, I loved #27, and would like to see Michelle Dockery do #20 but in a deeper more interesting hue.
I do realize this is Elie Saab – the man who dressed Halle Berry for her Oscar win – so a certain amount of sheer with skillful applique is to be expected.
But god – SO tired of sheer. There are things here with such lovely lines, but I’m distracted at how sheer they are.
That was Elie Saab?! It all makes sense!
I liked this collection! But I liked Valentino MORE.
Didn’t Julianna Margulies wear a plum version of slide 8? sequin beaded t-shirt with ball gown bottom? Gah I can picture the dress but not who it is.
I looked at Slide #22 and thought it was merely a better made version of Emmy Rossum’s costume from the upcoming Beautiful Creatures.
Sheer skirts, spanx, and nipples. Et tu, Ellie? Et tu?
Does nobody have any class in fashion any more?
I would like to see January Jones in #13, but I feel like she veers away from anything Betty Draper-ish. Which she shouldn’t, because she inevitably always looks best on that show.
Somebody should tell Princess Charlene that #3 is how you do neutral. Structured, not schlumpy.
I think #13 would be great for Kidman, with soft hair. Can she please stop with the severe look?
I truly HATE the same colored granny pants they are all wearing to keep the girlparts from showing.
Elie Saab has historically been my favorite designer, but this collection gets a big “meh” from me. Everything feels played out and overdone.
Morena Baccarin so needs to wear number 10. It would be such a break from her usual fug. She would look stunning.
Not seeing Marchesa in this collection necessarily- there isn’t nearly enough tulle randomly exploding from the midsection or bottom of the dress to be Marchesa.
I love Elie Saab, but this isn’t my favorite collection of his. There are still some very pretty pieces, though. And the sheerness doesn’t bother me since, as I mentioned above, a lining will presumably be added in accordance to the wearer.
To paraphrase Portlandia, it’s only Marchesa-like when they put a bird on it.
Chastain MUST WEAR #23. Must must must. With a centre part and loose, natural waves.
Is it just me, or are most of the granny panties an unfortunate, very urine-adjacent shade?
nope. They are a distracting shade of jaundice.
Yes! I kept thinking they looked like the color of pee, or nicotine-stained, or even chartreuse at times. It made everything have this liver-damaged jaundice thing going on.
Liv Tyler in 24. I know it would be her “as Arwen”, but still–it would be amazing on her.
Ooh, good idea!
Sheer sheer sheer sheer sheer MAKEITSTOP!
Feel you, vandal.
I liked the coral dresses, beautiful.
All those white/nude/barely there color dresses are really MEH though.
Much of this is extremely boring. There were a few dramatic moments near the end but I was so sick of sheer with lace applique that I just didn’t care. And yeah, it does reek of Marchesa. That’s not a direction anyone should want to go.
There was a lot of repetition and some boring, bordering on ugly colors, but I do love the second to last black dress.
No doubt does Elie Saab design beautiful beautiful gowns, but this whole collection to me screams been there done that to me. I was really hoping for a new direction but it’s the same old. Yes, the same old is still VERY GOOD…it’s just, same old.
I actually LOVE this collection, with minor tweaks for the red-carpet, of course. Someone MUST wear #23. Aside from the fit issues with the bodice, I am absolutely obsessed with that gown. I think it’s gorgeous.
You need to fix your comment on #18 – it’s messed up.
And #19 is soooo totally Chastain!
I loved most of these dresses, but especially the 2nd one because it looks so much like my mother’s custom made wedding dress from 1968! Swoon!!!
Some of the covered ones could be less-frumpy options for Mayim Bialik.
Calling Taylor Swift – your lace over nude princess dress collection has arrived.
Guiliana Rancic’s Globe dress is looking more and more ahead of the curve, that shoulder/neckline has been featured in the last 2 or 3 shows.
And while there were certainly some pretty things in here, all I saw was a sea of nude sheer. I was clicking so fast I sometimes forgot to read the comments.
I really liked this collection. Too many appearances by granny panties, sure, but some of the dresses were so pretty.
Very romantic! I would love to see Chastain in one of the blue ones…some sparkly lace would be a nice change for her.
