Fugger: Wills and Kate

Well Replayed Kate Middleton

This is the third time Kate’s sported this black lace Temperley (this is the first, and the second, we don’t have snaps for some reason I can’t unravel, but you can see it at What Kate Wore). But it’s definitely the first time she’s accessorized it with 3-D glasses. Additionally: a smart suit is trotted out to sign Nelson Mandela’s condolence book, AND a look from the end of last week. Call it a Kate Omnibus. A Katenibus.

Well Replayed, Kate Middleton

In which she replays a Roland Mouret from May of 2012, which we all liked at the time — especially since she wore it with open-toed shoes for the first time, like, ever. If that was the first outing of the Royal Toes, this is the first instance of The Royal Ponytail At A Fancy Event. With bonus diamonds. A LOT of them…and they’re allegedly faux, from freaking Zara.

Played, Kate Middleton

This is, to use a phrase we often employ hereabouts, aggressively FINE:

I love the festive, sassy pop of color with the red bag, and the dress is perfectly nice — it’s Temperley, naturally. But all the news reports are calling this event “a gala,” and I have to say, with the exception of her bracelet (which is basically all diamonds), this ensemble doesn’t feel very GALA to me. It feels very Fancy Fundraising Luncheon or Posh Early Evening Cocktail Party on a B-List Holiday or Whatever I’m Tired This Is Fine Happy Holidays. I’d say we’ve all been there, but…

Fairly Well Played, Kate Middleton

For those of you who’ve longed for her to wear her hair half-up, this is for you!

In an Orla Kiely frock last seen in February of 2012, deployed with the same shoes and possibly the same bag, even:

It’s still cute. Who amongst us doesn’t have an outfit with which generally we wear the exact same accessories? I do like to think of Kate having, like Cher Horowitz, some kind of app to remind her which booties she wears with which coatdress — or, to be more old-school, that she keeps a diary of everything she wore each day, much as we discovered was the habit of Corky Sherwood on Murphy Brown. I believe that marks the first Murphy Brown reference I’ve ever made on this blog, after nine-plus years, but don’t worry. I’ve got a million of them. Wait until someone goes out dressed as a housepainter. (Get it on Netflix, youngsters. Although I don’t think it’s on Netflix. [Cue sad trombone.] Wait for it to pop up on Nick at Nite, youngsters.)

Appropriately Played, Kate Middleton

This is not going to be a long post, because this is basically the only look we got at Kate’s wardrobe at this event (appropriately, given that it’s a solemn occasion):

She IS at a Remembrance Day event at a war memorial, so something more sassy would probably have been inappropriate. I do love a navy coat, though. What Kate Wore has more information on the event, as well as a shot of the Temperley London coat here in its entirety, albeit not as seen on Kate herself.
