Fugger: Hayley Atwell

Fugs and Fabs: The Latest Captain America 2 Premiere

I’m so much MORE inclined to like things right now, which I suspect is TOTALLY because we are in the middle of Fug Madness and so everything in the world seems prettier than the hellpiles we have to shovel in those entries.

Fugs and Fabs: The Other Women at the Captain America Premiere

I must admit, I am pretty excited about this movie. I loved the first Captain America, and not just because of that shot of Chris Evans punching a heavy bag in sweats. Although that didn’t hurt. We just checked out Scarlett Johannson’s incredibly girly outfit, now let’s see the rest of the ladies. Spoiler: like, everyone from Agents of SHIELD got to come to this thing.

Well Played, Hayley Atwell

This is so much better than her more recent outings:

She still looks like she’s a character in a period piece — which I think is actually the best look for her, as she has Period Piece Face (not a brutal affliction, as it’s one shared by the likes of, say,  Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet) — but this time she at least doesn’t look like the character who makes you roll your eyes and mutter, “ugh, THIS ONE again. Why do they think we CARE?” Obviously, she was long ago cast in my fictional English country house murder/time travel/romance series — as Matt Lewis’s awesome older sister whose moxie has been sucked out of her by her terrible husband, but who still manages to have the verve to make very minor trips through time to warn everyone about the Nazis (they don’t listen), so I am happy to see her back on track.

British Fashion Awards Fug Carpet: Hayley Atwell

I really wanted to like this. I REALLY did:

I love the skirt. I might not even hate the top, although it kind of looks as though it’s covered in Candy Buttons. I like the color scheme, and in general I enjoy any outfit that looks as if Carol Brady might have worn it to a gala thrown by Mike’s architecture firm. But in the final analysis, this is one of those things where I embrace it THEORETICALLY and in practice it gives me a headache. Kind of like that third martini.

Captain America: The Fug Soldier

I feel like this would work so much better if it didn’t appear to be growing on her:

I just really want someone to answer a question for me, and that question is this: How long are we going to continue to be presented with formal gowns which appear to be designed to double as, like, really glamorous mold? I’d wrinkle my nose at this if I found it on my sourdough.

Fugs and Fabs: People at London Fashion Week

Milan has already started and we’re still trying to catch up with what’s in our lightboxes from London (of which this is, happily, the last). How do the editors DO IT? Anyway, here is a sampling of who attended: some Sienna Miller, some Anna Kendrick, and a little Paloma Faith to renew your belief in gleeful wackitude. As if it ever died.
