Everyone predicted that the White House Correspondents Dinner would be much less celeb-filled this year than in years prior — primarily because most of the publications who usually attend with celebrity guests chose not to attend this year. Beyond that, though, I’m sure the celebs who don’t support Trump didn’t feel much like showing, and celebs that do probably didn’t think it was wise to go, given that he didn’t. I don’t necessarily think any of this is a bad thing — for years, journalists have complained that the WHCD has turned into an out-of-control celeb-a-thon — but it does give us fewer celebrities to ogle this year, and I always loved seeing which journalist ended up photo-bombing which celebrity on the red carpet. At least Samantha Bee threw a bash to fill a bit of the void.
