Cannes Fug or Fab: Zoe Saldana in Etro

I want to like this. It’s weird and loud, and I always want to give the benefit of the doubt to things that are not flesh-toned nighties.

But every time I look at it, the top tricks me into thinking her boobs are migrating south for the summer. And I don’t think the Migratory Patterns of the Two-Breasted Saldana are something we should be studying right now.

I think she is striking, but that is NOT a good photo. She looks unhappy and tired and “I would rather be at the dentist”. I also do not like the dress, it’s doing nothing for her and those shoes make me unhappy.

Bad dress – the length, the colors, the skirt pattern, the tulip hem, the fussy color-match of the cuffs and skirt. And it makes Zoe, who’s slim as a rail, look thick-torso’d and hippy.

Yep. She’s as slight as a willow wand or a dipstick, and the dress is making her look hefty as well as low-bosomed.

Why did she wear it? I mean, her bathrobe is probably prettier and more flattering.

I both see what you mean and actually like it… it’s like it needs to be hoiked, which is rare in a non-strapless dress. But I like it anyways because the pattern is funky and she looks good in yellow and, well, Saldana.

The runway version added a belt ( which I definitely think was more successful than this, however. Helped to define the waist rather than create the suggestion of awkward saggy boobness.

Wow – it’s way better with a belt.

It fits the model completely differently – hits in totally different places on her body. Looks much better. This needed tailoring, if Saldana was determined to wear it.

That mustard color belongs on a hot dog. Not on the delicate hips of Mademoiselle Saldana. Whoever picked out that mess for her should be dropped into the sea!

I was just going to say that I might like it if it were a different colour – that yellow is really unattractive.

I know it’s a trick of the light/shadows/dress, but she looks like her stockings (that you can tell she’s not wearing) have fallen down a la Biebs.

So many hideous dresses on classy celebrities lately…why??

  7. Art Eclectic

The dress actually looks good in close up – it’s one of those that doesn’t photograph well but if you were standing next to it you’d probably like it.

  8. Bella

She has the occasional moment of looking good – this is not one of them.

The “migration” look is partly due to the overt blousiness of the top.

The blousiness was the main reason (apart from COLOR) that Jolie looked droopy in the dress that Jane Fonda rocked.
Fonda’s dress was altered with darts fitting the bodice to her form, and she added a belt.

Really makes me re-think EVER wearing blouson tops if they make these fit women look droopy, boxy :(

Isn’t Zoe Saldana and Blake Lively both there at Cannes to represent L’Oreal? Because it seems to me that Blake is clearly the better dressed and that bothers me. Shouldn’t the two women be equally glamorous? get equal treatment?

Is yellow and gray a thing now? Because they clash, badly. I hope this doesn’t last.

I really love the skirt, and I think the problem up top is that it does not taper to the waist as well as it could, especially on the right (her left). Maybe it’s a by-product of the pose.

It looks like a swarm of bees is migrating north on her body. ugh. Such a pretty woman.

The long, center-parted hair plus the deep V neckline PLUS the inverted V hem are working together to create an overall effect of serious droop.

I think a belt would help a lot, but I just really dislike the whole thing.
